A day early on the weekly update. Slacking on the volume but results are slowly coming in. I am able to focus more on quality as opposed to mass table clicking like I was on lower stakes. Still studying 5 days a week and reviewing plenty of hands.

Not much going on the past week, yoyoing up and down. Took an extra few days off since sleep was awful resulting in poor focus etc. Adding in a second rest day, playing 6 days a week with intense study seems too much for me these days. I keep nearing burn out and having to pull back. So its going to be 5 days a week with an added total rest day and the other doing stuff with gf.
Will do a longer write up towards the end of the month since I played my first plo hand on the 1st of Nov 2019 and quite a lot has happened.

Ok, so, its been just about one year since I started playing PLO and I thought id give some more context to this mini milestone.
I had set myself the goal of becoming a 200plo reg by the end of October 2020, meaning one year starting with 0 knowledge and at 25plo. After having taken nearly one year away from the tables (former middish NL player), at the time I was not enjoying the game anymore and needed a break. Mostly due to some irl things mixed with self-sabotage I decided to take a break and get a job. I secured a good position in fintech pretty quickly, salary was solid, but eventually the spark to play poker again came back. Its quite the change going to work 9-5 after grinding NL for roughly 10ish years.
Fast forward six months I regularly spoke to my best buddy going way back, funnily enough we meet through 2+2 about ten years ago - he was crushing plo for a few years at that point and comfortably cruising at 5/10. I decided hey why not, lets give it a shot instead of NL again (ofc I have dabbled before, and by dabbled I mean probably punted off a buy in or two through the years). We began studying day in day out, I started off learning 50bb strategy at 25plo zoom (with a deposit of $600) since mistakes would cost me less and its an efficient strategy too - especially for getting your feet wet. Got down the preflop ranges fairly quickly and slowly began playing deeper moving into 50plo whilst maintaining roughly 9-10bb.
We reviewed tons of hands at that point and introduced some solver work (monker) at the time. I follow a strict BR management scheme which is basically 100 buy ins for next limit and I move up and when I reached the 5kish mark I diversified sites away from PS and although it was an annoying process depositing everywhere looking for good games and rakeback it was worth finding out where its worth to play (as visible in the graph the - RB really adds up at these stakes). Still mainstream sites, never been into the app grind.
By that time I was moving into 100plo we had definitely found out how to conceptually and relevantly study well with Monker (and still do, we spend/spent tons of hours with it), my friend was/is still crushing it too. I built a significant chunk of my roll at 100plo, and stayed there a little longer than the 100 buy in rule I had set. I guess I got comfortable but moved up as planned eventually and here we are today at 200plo 40k hands in and a 10bb-ish win rate overall. I started out with $600 and I am now sitting with roughly 30kish after cashing out chunks monthly for life expenses. I have been lucky and not experienced any mind boggling downswings, only a couple 30 buy in downers thrown in but nothing awful like iv seen others experience.
Going forward, I will stick with the current Oct to Oct time frame for goals.
Poker Goals:
-Established 400, 500, 600plo reg. Its not the same jump as 25plo to 200plo in terms of stakes like I had in my first year but the games are a def tougher, so I am aiming to establish myself at mid stakes. Hoping to play my first 400plo hand in the next 2-3ish months.
-Continue to study 5-6 days a week with my friend using monker, visions etc.
-20k quality hands per month, yeah its not many but I want to play well and keep moving up - not put in insane volume at any stake - unless its HSPLO
-Keep networking and make friends in the poker world, I have meet many cool plo'ers lately.
-Daily posting instead of weekly, I enjoyed BenaBadBeat's blog this way and will take on that style.
-Start taking on/coaching a couple students who play micro/small.
-Enjoy the process of it all, keep poker fun as well as professional.

Amazing results...keep crushing bro. Go time
Amazing results. Very well played sir!
Red the whole thread and I find it very inspiring.
I want to switch to plo too, I'm getting burned out in nlhe nowadays despite doing okaysh at the low stakes. The average player in nlhe is just very good right now and i don't enjoy the game anymore. You have to put so much work and study for a little edge to be gained. In plo the gap between good and bad players is much bigger, and I have the feel there are always good games going.
If i may ask you:
1) do you have any plo book that you find good? I red all Jeff hwang books but I think they are outdated right now.
2) thoughts on training sites? I wanted to give plo mastermind a try, but maybe is Rio better?
3) what is more useful? Monker or plo visions? Both a must have?
4) if you have to choose only one, On wich site would you play? Why? Best site to build a roll starting at plo 25?
Best site for every stake?
Thanks for reading, I will follow your journey and rooting for you mate, high stakes are not far away

****kkkk yes. gl looking forward to following along
Very inspiring post! Keep the good work!
thanks man, still got some catching up to do to your 200 results tho
Hey man, its definitely a good change-up from NL but by no means can you cruise by with little to no study you will have to work as hard - but yes edges can be bigger for sure.
I will try and answer these:
1. I have never read a PLO book and I am not sure I would given whats out there.
2. I am currently not subbed to any of them for vids, I only use Visions for certain check ups when I dont wana do Monker stuff. So I cannot help either, but im sure both have some decent content - leaning RIO.
3. They are both useful and serve their purpose. If you are transitioning I would suggest you get preflop down very well as it can cost you a lot of win rate. I would suggest Monker but the learning curve can be frustrating with it, its heavy on resources and expensive. Maybe begin with preflop/propokertools/visions and get the basics down pat.
4. Haha well, depending on where you are I would check them all out. PS was a good practice ground since you can play many hands an hour zooming but its not optimal for moving up imo. Find some rakeback, since traffic at 25 should be plentiful on all sites.
Thanks bros! Much appreciated.

Alright first day of daily posting. Yesterday was a rest day hence no posting. Put in 90min of study and one mid length session. Traffic was fairly quiet and iv still been lazy to fund more sites for volume.
Largest pot today, fairly standard one. Largest losing was some 60bb spot vs fish. Otherwise mostly boring hands.

Nice blog. Keep it up.
My observations:
You're missing out on a ton of EV by playing Zoom instead of playing regular tables. PLO is all about finding ways to exploit people. A good seat at the right table can make your week or even a month. You don't get that with Zoom.
For someone with your work ethic 10bb/100 is on the low side for these stakes. That number will only decrease as you try to move up. Since you're still learning the game I think it makes more sense to play fewer tables with a higher win-rate. You'll get less rakeback but you'll also take your game to the next level, which is what you need if you want to continue moving up. PLO200 is probably the last super-fishy level so you need to be a lot better than 10bb/100 at PLO200 if you want to win at PLO1000.
You can also have a single regular table running while you're studying, so the laser-like focus on the game will enable you to find profitable spots that you'd normally ignore during the multi-table play. Winning that extra hand or finding that extra fold is the difference between a good and a great win-rate.
If you do end up making it to the big leagues you won't be able to play several tables anyway, so you may as well start going for quality over quantity right now. Your bankroll requirements would also decrease if you played fewer tables, so you could start taking shots at bigger games today instead of waiting to double your roll the hard way, which will eat up a huge amount of time for no good reason.
When I'm building a roll my goal is to steam-roll through as many levels as possible until I meet the resistance be it from the regs or the variance. Then I may slow down or even drop down, but generally speaking there's never a 2x difference in quality of opponents' play when you double the stakes, so why should I have to wait a year until I double my roll if I can beat the game right now?
Shot-taking is a science and an art and great rewards await those who can master it.

Then I may slow down or even drop down, but generally speaking there's never a 2x difference in quality of opponents' play when you double the stakes, so why should I have to wait a year until I double my roll if I can beat the game right now?
Shot-taking is a science and an art and great rewards await those who can master it.
Nice blog.
I guess its each to their own in terms of shot taking, i simply prefer to ease into the next level with enough buy ins than potentially yoyo up and down. The latter I used to do in NL back in the day, but I prefer the route that takes less of a tole on the mental aspect.

Hey man, thanks for the detailed post! However, im not sure you have read my posts as I dont play zoom and much of what you have written I sort of implement. Yeah my win rate at 200plo regular tables is around 13bb, there is some distortion in my long post earlier due to a failed zoom shot which cost me a bit a long time ago iv just included it.

My bad. I did read the whole blog, but the first post about Zoom kind of threw me off and I also assumed that when you talked about how 200PLO wasn't running regularly during European hours you were talking about Zoom because 200PLO seems to run around the clock on the "American" sites that I play on.
Whatever you're doing you're doing it right if it's working, so stick with your system and only change things if it stops working. Your 13bb/100 winrate is very solid and if you can keep it up at higher stakes you'll be one of the best regs. The point I was trying to make is if fewer tables result in higher win-rate then you should always do it even if it hurts your rakeback because you'll be rewarded for it later at higher stakes where the game is a lot more nuanced and the players are paying a lot more attention to you.
I know I'm not a very good multi-tabler, but I can study and play a single table at the same time without much trouble. Yes, it does feel like you are multitasking but you're also not being forced to make insta-plays and that's what keeps me from autopiloting. It also helps if the windows are not on top of each other so your brain does not have to make the full switch when it's your turn to act because your subconscious will be aware that your turn is coming up as long as the table is visible at all times.

Another day in the books. Put in another 500 hands, was not going to play at all given I barely slept but the action was good and luckily ran pretty hot. No study, afternoon nap instead
Rec flops so hard but we still get there. We still got 30% on the flop, but felt much worse haha

It would be cool if you posted some non-standard hands even if you had folded the river or made a bad call. You play so many hands that there has to be some PLO gold in there.
A lot of times it's not the biggest pot that makes a hand interesting.
Cheers.

Was super tired and slightly annoyed after last nights sessions so posting now
The games were insanely good and I managed to run 10bi under ev.
Most of my hands were literally losing tons of all ins/getting smacked by fish nothing too interesting.
