4) What are your recommendations on study material? Do you think most books are outdated or still hold value, should I be reading a specific section in forums, etc?

Thanks
Hey, i would definitely stay away from tournaments, especially the ones with the format you are describing. I always saw tournaments as the way for poker to reach out and pull people into the game because it gives just about anybody a chance to win a ton of money. However most people either never get there, or spending so much money&time that when they eventually do win something significant, the return is hardly worth the investment. You can make way more in way less time with way less stress in even 1/2 & 1/3 being a very solid player and gradually move up in stakes.

In terms of BR, there are a lot of discussions in other threads afaik so ill just add to it and not be repetitive. It really depends on how well you play. I kind of just moved up in the last few months using my profits from the previous stake, even though im properly rolled, i never had to dip into money that wasn't already profit (knock on wood!). I would say put away 10-15 BIs to start since you are getting paid from work as well.

Okay now as for study material i never read a poker book since i was fortunate enough to have coaching. 2p2 also changed my "poker career" tremendously. A major caveat is that do not believe everything you read in 2p2 strategy threads. Even if they have a high post count and praises are being sung about them it doesn't mean they are actually good. There are only a few people who knows what they are doing and most of them won't bother posting - but pay attention when they do give stuff away.

The good news though!! Is that you dont need advanced knowledge to beat 1/2 and even most 2/5 games for a decent amount. People are that bad. You just really need common sense. I have no idea how you play though so it's hard to say what you need. If you do decide to start your pgc lemme know the link

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Appreciate it. I actually just won a 35 person tourney tonight with a $10 buy in with unlimited rebuy haha. I won 230. The last tourney I played there was similar and I took first and won 170, but yeah I figured you might say what you did about the BR and suggesting cash games. I think you're right too. I plan to start saving up for a BR so that I can start playing and feel comfortable that I am not just going to bust if I lose once or twice. Also, I will definitely let you know when I start my PG&C.

Cheers

Nope never said that. I said i started playing T/25/50 (straddled game) and only one weekend when it was good. My main game is 5/T right now and i would be very happy with making a decent hourly at that game.

Late night/early morning sessions are super gross.. the fact that ive been pretty much autopiloting is compensated by the whale to my right who keeps on reloading purple chips i guess. It's incredible how much worse everyone's playing at this hour.

Nah that doesnt run all the time and as i'm not rolled to play it (cuz that would require like a minimum 300k+ br!) I'm only playing it when it's really good. And thanks hope to have another good month to report!

Congrats on booking a solid winning month! Would you mind disclosing who your coaches are or is that top secret?

I'm just not going to do that because every pot was so freaking important to me during my downswing - it was exactly like having to keep on treading to keep your head above water. Im never ever going to take running good for granted.
I had a brutal december. But when I came out of it, I started treating every pot of equal importance. It seems weird now that I get far more upset now when I spew $20 in a 2/5 pot preflop than I do putting 1k in bad in a 5/10 spot if I believe it's the correct thing to do.

I lost $35 at 2/5 yesterday in a tiny pot when I called a river bet with tptk after knowing for a fact I couldn't beat anything. (In all honesty, it was my recent addiction to Clash of Clans that caused me to play the hand terribly since I was in the heat of battle during the hand) It tilted the hell out of me and I had to get up and go for a walk.

Shouldn't you be tilted by the fact you're playing a game on your device while at the tables?

I'm just curious, do you feel you could make more money playing 2/5 ? I've Playtex the 2/5 and the 5/10 @ fv and it seems the 25 is just so soft. I feel the players at 510 are bad too but just not AS bad. Pretty nitty games. I've made over 8k + in like 7/12 months playing just 25. Just curious of your thoughts.

Clash is +EV for me.

In smaller games like a 100BB cap 2/5 game where I feel I have decent reads on the players (whether they are regs or recfish), I get bored pretty quickly. I tend to get super floaty and have some serious spewLAG tendencies when I'm bored, so having something to multitask with helps a lot. When playing full time, getting bored leads to burnout pretty quick. When I got bored of holdem I got into PLO. When PLO didn't run, I got into limit HOSE games. Then I needed something else so I got into OFC. Now it's CoC

I'm trying to be a CoC master. There's a lot of people that love the CoC. I'm trying to use my CoC with control so I don't spew everywhere.

Congrats on the turnaround snowball, way to get thru it!

And "this is from 1/2 to T/25/50 in ~8 months/~600 hours" is definitely bargable.
