He once said he was never coached by anyone.

Well wouldn't say 200k hands of HS (if HS still is 10/20+) but I've played with him a bit. So far seemed to be pretty standard reg.

Hey Giev,

Great thread.

I know you can't really generalise about strategy, but I've been coming across the same situation a lot recently and thought I'd ask.

With the current state of NL 6max cash games, I'm finding it harder to fold overpairs when raised (I'm playing 200 and 400 euro games on a European network).

On wet boards, even a semi decent player knows to play his draws aggressively, and on dry boards, more players are attacking these as well as it's hard to have anything.

With the current level of aggression in games, are you ever looking to fold overpairs (with the exception of the 10/8/2 nit who raises you)? I've been losing a lot with big overpairs to flopped sets and want to know whether to chalk it up to variance or bad play.

A bit hard to answer a question like that.. I definitely fold overpair sometimes. Just do the math with pokerstove and you'll see if it's good to go broke with overpair or not.

Thanks for your reply.

That's kind of what I was saying. If your opponent's range has enough draws and/or outright bluffs, running the maths, it seems that folding an overpair is often going to be wrong.

And from my experience, these days, your opponents at midstakes are always going to have enough draws and bluffs in their ranges.

Nothing like losing some big pots in this way to make you doubt yourself, but I appreciate your answer.

thoughts about overbetting river against randoms/regs at midstakes HU? and if you are gonna overbet, would the first one be a bluff? or doesnt it really matter and does it depend on what you think the level your opponent is on?

Kinda hard to say about midstakes HU when I play HS 6max.. But obv overbetting will be good in some spots. Imo doesn't rly matter if the first one is bluff or not, but first one that gets to showdown obv matters since if some not-so-good reg calls your overbet and sees nuts he's "never" gonna call it light again.

But like you said it all depends on how the villain is playing (what level he's on), gameflow, board etc etc.

Spoiler:
I hope he doesn't read this thread but I found it funny how he didn't snapcall my flop shove when he raises flop with TP..
Noob question (although it's an old hand). But why do you think it was funny he didn't snapcall your shove, I probably wouldn't have called at all and just folded . I mean, if the pot is only about 1K or so before shove, so if someone raises 11K and I only have TP, then I would probably fold too . Why is that a wrong line of thinking?

why would you raise if you're not planning on snapping it off etc

Villain's stack is just over 100bb. It's not like he's calling off the $11k. Hand looks beyond standard.

Aggro HU battle and he has 1.8k to call, not 11k. Like imfromsweden said there is absolutely no reason to raise flop if you are not going to call a shove.

But the good thing that would come with raising is that you would find out where you are at. Like if villain shoves hes revealing his handstrength.
