Good luck with your challenge Verneer. I'm looking forward to some 5nl or 10nl videos from you! You are an inspiration to me and the rest of this community.

Great idea starting another challenge Veneer. Learnt a ton from your last thread and will continue reading your updates. Funny that most of my posts reference theory from your last thread lol. I am also interested to see if anything changed since your last challenge since poker is always evolving and we need to keep up with the games. I cant count how many times I have seen people here referencing Fees book which was written quite a while ago where some of the ideas I believe are completely outdated. Although its still a good read, it needs to be updated. Either way GL with this challenge and I am hoping to avoid you at all costs. On the other hand I wouldn't mind swinging a couple bucks your way since its going to charity.

Superb, another moving up thread! Stumbled across the 2010 thread last August I think, must have read it through 3 times, awesome thread. This New Year I thought, it really is time to stop fkn around at poker and seriously start to build a roll. I came on today to find the 2010 thread again to read it through (again) and soak it in while I play, so its great to catch this one on the ground floor. Much respect for the charity donation btw.

I assume you're talking about stats from tracking software -- which program are you using that puts realtime stats up for rush? Last time I checked, PokerTracker couldn't do it -- I'm wondering if HEM does. Thanks!

Also, Charity Navigator rates domestic charities by efficiency.

PT3 and HEM both show stats for Rush, just not your own.

You said earlier when you had a 4BI downswing that you seemed to be leaking to much from the SB. What adjustments have you done? This is easily where I struggle the most and I tend to just fold in SB very often because of it.

thats not a bad way to do it, are u comfortable playing oop? if u fold everything in sb including aa (hypothetical obv) ur sb stats would be -5.5bb/100 mine is like -40+ i think lol, need to tighten up since im playing oop and also get better at playing oop.

Hey verneer,

I've also been playing FR Rush 10NL - Luckily I haven't run into big hands with you yet. Graph for the last 4 days below (Obviously running good )

Looking through HEM: I'm playing slightly tigther than you @ 14/12.

I'm also loosing a decent amount in the SB/BB (But I guess thats to be expected) since the majority of the time, I'm set mining or playing some sort of broadway/AJs/AQs.

Day 3 Summary: Much better than yesterday ... things are staring to click. Finished up around $44 in 4230 hands. This brings me up to +$76.34 in 16.47 hours and 16,582 hands. I expect to get some nice rakeback at the end of the week (+$35 as of now) + the IronMan EOTY Bonus (cleared $65/$450 so far). So - moving in the right direction and that's important.

Overall update:

The basic adjustments that I've made from yesterday to today have been:

1. Play marginal hands more passively (although my AF is about the same)
2. Play tighter in general (although my VPIP is still ~17%)

The thing is ... staying out of marginal spots at this level is really important. Marginal spots are best navigated with good reads and stats. There are not many players that I have many stats on (in fact, I only have one guy with over 400 hands so far - and that's not that much).

I'm still about 3,500 hands away from doing a thorough 20,000 hand check-up. Right now, the SB is still a major issue for me. I am losing twice as much from the SB as I am from the BB (these #'s should be reversed). Once I address this and continue getting stats and notes on people, I expect to really pick up pace.

I love the ability to start and end Rush sessions really quickly. If I want to play for five minutes, I can. I can't really do that at the regular poker tables. I also find the games to be pretty good (although yesterday's graph probably has other people saying that about me

For sure! Keep that in mind

It was actually <ashamed> around 10 BI's. The main reasons were just a string of really bad luck and massively overplaying some hands. I made the adjustment and as you can see, it seems to be much better. Specifically for the SB, I'll need to break it down much further with multiple filters.

Nice results! Overall, I think a 14/12 style is close to optimal for these games.

No doubt you will crush the level.

When you mention playing tighter in general, will you give us an idea of what ranges your playing from the various positions?

If you want to wait and discuss this at a later time that would be understandable. Not sure if giving out your strat would be a good idea as many opponents are prob reading this and also playing in your games.

I'm going to make a few short videos about some issues that I've been thinking about. The potential topics are:

1. Note taking (who, what, and why).
2. Bluff catching river (what makes a good bluff-catcher and when to do it). I would also include situations where I got owned when trying to bluff-catch.

Any preference on which one you guys want first?

Note taking.

Will a cardrunners membership be required to watch it?

Five figure bankrolls are a good achievement for someone starting with $200. I won't stop playing - I'll just conclude this thread.

I'll post some stats after 20K hands, but after I post them, I expect to make some adjustments based on areas of my game where I feel I'm playing sub-optimally for this level. I'll break down a few select areas ITT.

I don't think so, although I think the videos will be on CardRunners. They will be short - 5-8 minutes and hopefully iPod friendly.

You were in the SB when I was in the Button in one hand earlier today. I had AA and bet $.35 to open. You folded. You missed a good chance to double up there - AA never holds up for me

I would love to see a video about note taking at Rush - I never know what to note or how much to note and then the tables move and I end up not noting anything.

I have already seen how you take notes by watching some of your previous CR vids, so I would rather see a vid about bluff-catching first. This is also an area where it seems like I'm always getting value-owned by the donks...
