Hows the job hunt going mate? Like you say, getting that consistent income will be nice, i think youd see your poker improve greatly too.

Have you found consistently posting on this thread useful to you, and in particular to your motivation for playing poker?
Would you recommend other players to make similar threads tracking their progress as they aim to move up the stakes?

Job hunting still sucks, there doesn't seem to be much that I'm interested in and the stuff I am interested in seems to be more on the coast like Cali/NY, but I'd prefer to stick in the midwest to stay close to my girlfriend.

I didn't really test it at all as I did change one setting (that likely caused this). I'll have to fix it for my next stream.

Yeah, it has helped me. I mean, setting any type of goal is going to help one reach their potential--no matter the circumstances. So, posting in here definitely helps and it keeps my mind "on the goal". I basically reached my goal right after the beginning of the year, so the original goals posted in this thread are no longer relevant, but as you see I made other goals--specifically the volume one for this month. Setting goals keeps your mind focused on where you want to be and posting here regularly helps with that as well.

Played 100nl for a few hours,

+400 some

Played 100nl, just two tables for a couple hours.

Ran pretty well as I coolered a guy pretty hard twice, but lost several flips vs. some shorties. I got quads twice almost back to back at same table and all in vs. villain so that was funny.

+$65 or so.

Played for 3 hrs 4 tabling 100nl, lost

-400

Kinda annoyed because ran pretty bad again. None of my bluffs went through, didn't get value in my value spots, and was forced to fold vs. a lot of raises and because of awful board run outs.

I thought you were playing 200nl? Did you cash out?

I was only ever shot-taking 200nl, but ended up cashing out a decent chunk and moved back to 100nl. I've cashed out a total of 4k and after my most recent cash out I've basically been break even at 100nl for 40k hands or something. I've been running quite awful.

Hey bro, don't think you're allowed to advertise coaching.

My understanding is he's not allowed to do so off the bat, but if asked he may answer publicly.

On that note, Mason, I've heard you coach? What are your rates? And if you could just quote a prior post where you have expressed such information, that would be sufficient to answer my question.

Sorry to ask about a topic that was only relevant to you a year or so ago.
However reading your thread you've done exactly what I am aiming to do, get out the micro's and into grinding the higher stakes, and the fact you have done this is incredibly motivating.
My question is what was the most important factor in moving up the stakes?
Thankyou for your feedback bro.
Glgl at the higher stakes.

The most important thing is thinking for yourself and surrounding yourself with poker friends that aren't complete degens.

Personally I think if you want to stick with your GF then don't ever think about moving anywhere remotely far away. Long distance relationships never work. No matter who you are.

I agree.

Wont she move with you? Id never place so much emphasis on a girl at such a young age that it would stop me following my dreams.

She would, just not for a while. She just leased an apartment for a year and is going to grad school. We've been together for 5 years nearly now, and she is not stopping me from my dreams. She is very supportive with everything.

Definitely agree with this but each to their own

Not everyone wants what you might want in life

I think if you find a good company in a good area, you shouldn't pass up on it, even if it's out of state on one of the coasts. If you plan on living together after your girl finishes school, this way would be an easier transition since you would have a job already, be familiar with the area you moved to, and should have everything set up like an apartment, car, etc. compared to if you waited until she graduated to expand your search to out of state areas. If you have been dating for 5 yrs already, being long distance for a year or less shouldn't really be an issue. You'd get to see each other on holidays and maybe on a weekend here and there, and with communication technology we have in today's age, maintaining a long distance relationship isn't as much as a hardship as it was, say a decade ago.
08-26-2015 , 05:48 PM
It'd be for 2 years.
08-26-2015 , 06:25 PM
If it's 2 yrs then I'd lean towards relocating for a job > staying close to gf even more than the previous post. She could live with you after her 2nd semester, and that's like a 3 month break for the next school year to start right? With that and holidays/long weekends it's not like you wouldn't see her for 2 yrs straight. You would start off at around 60k/yr? More than enough for you to get a place, pay bills, get a car, and afford plane tickets whenever you felt like seeing her.

In the end it's up to you but I think it would be better for your guys' future for you to be willing to relocate and sacrifice some time in the present to be able to start building the foundation for your future together. Either that or you should start degenning and playing sum 1kNL to pay the bills (in which I would fully support you doing!)
