Hitting up Vic tonight again. I really don't like the Vic compared to the other casinos - the food is bad, they charge for all their drinks, and it's full of regs and nits. Only good thing is the dealers, they're all very professional and have good banter.

There's a spanish girl who plays regularly at the Vic, must be about 28 years old and is extremely hot. Usually plays 2/5 but playing 1/3 and is sat with a stack of about £5k. Dayyum.

Bad night tonight, 1/2, £450 down.

Would like you say I got rivered, sucked out on, coolered etc but realistically I just played bad.

I started ok, won lots of little pots to go £100 up, then lost a couple of medium sized pots and found myself £100 down with £90 in front of me. Was about to go to cash machine (left cash at home, idiot) when I got 77, one person raised to 15, another called, I shipped it and the BB went all in over the time. With AA, obviously.

I then proceeded to burn another £250 by raising too wide, calling too wide and making a hero call.

Bad play.

Need to fix these leaks big time, I know what I did wrong though. More study needed it seems. A lot more.

Bankroll £3,988 (1 step forward, 1 step back, what a motherf****** grind)

i've always thought for 1/2 hippo/empire > vic and if you wanted to play higher than vic was the place to go. imo the empire dealers are pretty good but then again the standard of dealing where i play is awful so anything else is good really

Totally agree. I'm just going for the cash race which is why I'm going a lot to the Vic this month. I'm gonna go for an hour tonight. It's probably -EV going for this tourney but I'm pretty deep in now.

This month am helping out a friend with work, he needs to some finance skillz, so having trouble fitting in hours. Am working a 45 hour week but still trying to fit in about 20 hours of pokerz.

Thinking I may not need to be so conservative with my bankroll as I'm not living out of it so maybe can afford to take shots at 1/3.

One night I'm going to try and "satellite" in to 5/10 at the Vic I reckon - going to start my session early in the day at 1/1. Once I get to 200 move to 1/2, then with 300 to 1/3 all the way up to 5/10. Will be fun I reckon!

Played last night, £100 down. Bankroll at £3,888.

Quite happy with how I played to be honest, was given a terrible run of cards, stayed tight, bluffed once and it went through.

Hand I lost on:

Villain raised to 10, 2 callers, I have KThh in the SB. V has 110 behind.

Pot 42

Flop comes Kx Jh 5h

I check, V raises 30, folds to me, I call

Pot 102

Turn 5x

I check, V bets 40, I stick it in to make it 30 more for him to call, he obliges.

River Qx

V turns over KQ

I think against his range there Im doing ok, not folding with TP v short stack with redraw to flush.

Maybe I can call turn but I'm probably calling river bet anyway with a PSB of less than 0.20 by that point.

Lost £150 today.

Here's some accountability:

I called a 4 way pot preraised to 15, i was last to act on BB and called wih KJo.

I hit top pair.

NOTE TO SELF: never call with these trashy hands.

PFR bet 40 on KT4ss flop, I called, turn checked, he bet 55 on river with KQ.

I know calling KJ is always terrible - never mind OOP, with a neutral image. Why do it? Don't know. I thought maybe if I didn't hit big I could fold. Stupid play.

Writing this s*** will hopefully eradicate this kind of awful play.

One other thing: live players are much, much worse than online players. A reason for this is volume: after getting 82, 93, J5 etc for over an hour or two, people's ranges become much wider.

Good players exploit this by tightening their ranges (at least OOP).

Not by calling with KJ.

I'm going to take out £800 out of my bankroll this week and invest in coaching sessions, 2 a week, for the next 4 weeks.

Sometimes you need to take one step back to take 2 steps forward.

Totally agree, really important notion in Poker.

I'm pretty sure I do the same as you in those KJo spots without thinking about it. Definitely a leak I need to fix.

Good luck!

Played 5 or 6 hours last night at the hippodrome. I had been out for dinner (Eyre Brothers in Old Street, great meal) and had had a few to drink. I'm pretty good at keeping my s*** together when I've had a few, but last night I sat down and had some pretty good banter with two of the guys at be table (who didn't know each other either). We were loud, pretty drunk and I obviously hammed it up for the table image. The other two were insistent on getting more drinks in repeatedly though so we were doing rounds, until the floor stopped us from getting served! We were being pretty rowdy and people from other tables were lining up to sit with us.

I had a good night though - was sucked out on a couple times, such as with AA on a 652 board and someone called me all in for a 150 pot with 76 and rivered a 6. GIIG though, that's what counts, and comes with the territory really when people are calling you down light. Lost another 200 with QQ v AA which went AI on a 27T flop with the pot already at 120.

Made a couple of well timed bluffs though, made sure to show as well, as you do. I don't usually but this was all part of building an image.

Helped when the next hand, I had QJ, raised pre IP to 15, had 2 callers and the flop comes 89Thh (I had no hearts). I bombed the flop for 60, one called, the other went AI for 20 more. He had a flush draw and hit on the turn, and the other guy with 200 behind ships it on a 9 river with J9. I called and scooped a decent side pot at least.

One other notable hand, I'm in MP and raise to 15 PF with ATs. 4 callers. Flop is 269r, checks round, turn is 3, I UTG checks, I check, MP1 bets 25 - he'd been betting any turn where he had any piece of the board and the flop had checked through. CO called, who had a tendency to call small bets and fold to any significant pressure, UTG folds and I pop it to 100 figuring even A9 would have trouble calling. Both fold and I turn over the bluff and scoop another ill deserved pot

Decent night, won a little over 300. Had it not been for those beats above would have been a lot better.

Would have made a little more if I hadn't bought a couple rounds (let's call that an investment in image), And if I hadn't got a massage from one of the girls with the most incredible set of cans you'll ever see. Totally worth it.

Back to the poker

Yep, this is a pretty common leak amongst average players - we need to do better than that!

The Empire pal, but I haven't played for a while and I've only played 46 hours total but going to play more, the thing I hate is how it ****s your sleeping up; playing obscene hours. I've also checked out the hippodrome but never played there.

It was a really juicy game. Ideally would have stayed longer but I was dead on my feet. Between work and poker I'd been going for 26 hours. Won't play tonight, really need a good nights sleep!

Majority of the players in the game had been on the table since I got there and had no plans to finish any time soon when I left. Some of these live players have stamina for days!

What are your views on the super bumhunting regs that play in the hippo?
Im talking about the guys who fold a hand then get off their seat, look around for better tables constantly. Ive even seen some who sit out when a whale has gone to the toilet.

On one hand, I respect their eagerness and effort to always look for a juicier table.

On the other hand I think, "just sit the f*** down, relax, play some poker, and have a bit of faith in your own game that you can still make money against average players".

To be honest I generally don't like them but I know that table selection is massive when it comes to profits.

My aim is to get to a level where I don't need to bum hunt and can exploit any player I sit with.

Totally agreed.

Though, if they put the same effort into improving their game as they do into table hopping, they're win rates would increase far more. But I suppose we're happy that's not the case...

Managed to fit in 5 sessions over the weekend. +330,-60,-190,-160,+340.

3 losses bookended by a couple of decent wins.

The -190 loss hurts the most, was up about 250 on the session, then ended up hero calling a very bluffy player for about 300 with second pair. He had pocket kings. Should have waited for a better spot.

Been slacking on my studies a bit recently, so here's the goals for the week:

1. Smoke no weed this week
2. Play 20 hours live
3. Review 8 hands
4. Have 2x coaching sessions
5. Watch a training video (any recommendations out there??)
6. Go through all of my last 10 session notes
7. Warm up and cool down after every session - I've been neglecting this lately
8. Listen to one mental game podcast
9. Make notes on my mental game leaks and brush up
10. Focus on tightening up my pre flop range

I've not been doing as well as I had hoped or anticipated. Need to work harder, and keep focus during sessions.

It struck me that a lot of aspiring players are young - some of them move to poker because they think it's easy and doesn't require hard work.

To be successful it's important to absolutely smash the work off the table. I need to make this my edge.
