Went on a boat trip yesterday and came back super sunburned. It was very fun and worth every penny. Visited the neighboring islands around Phuket with some of the #Phuketeers. First we went to Maya Bay and snorkeled, then headed to monkey beach. The monkeys somehow managed to swim to our boat and steal a bag of plums. It was pretty hilarious. Oh they also attacked one of our crewmates cause he held a banana close to his nuts. Not the brightest idea. After monkey beach we went to PhiPhi and had lunch. Boat broke down on the way back but a passing boat gave us a spanner(lol) and the crew managed to fix the motors.

Spoiler:

Last night I played some 25/50 vs a reggish player who I thought at the start might've been a fish. In my defense, he was new. Didn't go so well, he took me for a BI or two in HU. I misplayed a few hands and got unlucky elsewhere.

Ended on the long rostucko grind, which I'm happy to say was a success. I played generally well imo. 2kNL was running so I was lucky to jump on that table and make 5BI.

Oh and I guess I picked up 45k in equity yesterday when Tapie/FTP/DOJ deal was settled upon. I've never cashed in a #freeroll but I'll take it. #happydance. Wrote the money off a long time ago and quite happy to be getting it. Would be nice if my points were worth something too as I've got 2.1M+ (I can't remember the exact amount, it's been so long).

Today was a success as well, ran well and played well. A good combination.

In that AK hand why do u flat pre? Was your plan to c/c c/c cr river? Once he raises he reps pretty thin so do u call there 100% of the time or how do those call work lol? ;p
11-06-2011 , 05:11 PM
I think it is exactly c/c c/c c/r cause if the other guy is aggro and decides A is good for turn and river barrel. Other cards op might donk or c/r turn. Depends also a ton on dynamic 3 handed and esp on those stakes, or mb I am totally wrong and don't have a clue

haha of course I still have fun playing the game, otherwise I wouldn't be doing so. I have fun when I'm making the correct adjustments and taking good notes (basically playing well). I generally feel great after a long marathon session.

x/c x/c x/r is likely too thin on most board runouts. I flat pre because the fish/spazz was in the BB. I wanted him to either come in the pot or do something preflop. On the flop I can raise for value/rep draws but I did not have such a dynamic with villain yet that he would play back at my flop raises light. He was also barreling a decent amount when we played HU so I expected to get more barrels which is nice when you have a disguised strong hand.

On the river it's definitely not a fistpump call, even though I expect him to barrel QJ on the turn a lot. He should only really have TT/QJ here for value, KT barrels turn for value a good % of the time. AT bets turn, as do sets. Top of my range call and hope he randomly does this with a worse hand for value.

---

Played really well yesterday but ended up anti rostuckoing my day, was really disappointed and sad. Oh well what can you do.

Went to Koron beach to watch the women's beach volleyball world tour championships. Australia and Italy played for 3rd, US and China played for first. 1. China, 2. USA, 3. Italy. I mean I can't really lose the championship cause I'm an ABC. #winning. They screwed up and played the American national anthem before realizing their error and played the Chinese one at the awards ceremony. Lulz.

I think I played well today. Played the Swedish regular who crushed me last month for practice. He seems like a nice guy, either that or he must think I'm absotively terrible. He's actually crushing this month in winnings and it's not remotely close. Up like 150k this month, what a sicko. Anywho, session went okay. We started at one table of 10/20 (I only wanted to play one because I was playing 6m on the side) and then he ended up sitting all my 1k 6m tables and we played HU when the tables broke.

Oh and then Marshall28 (Cardrunners coach) pretty much called me terrible and thinks he understands my game very well. He said the same about lima before he found out that lima was playing highstakes/nosebleeds and pussied out to a HU4ROLLZ. lima was playing 25NL when I was playing 5NL and he now crushes 25/50+.

As expected, he pussies out.

He really should put his money where his mouth is. We've played at the tables together before and I didn't think he was that bad but there were spots where he was getting it in too light/mis-assessing ranges. He's quite arrogant and that annoys me more than anything. He can take this offer up at any time if he feels his dignity/manhood is being challenge. #endrant

Somewhat. z0mg and I go way back. We've been racing up the steaks #omnomnom since 25NL. Easily my closest poker friend even though we've never met.

---

So yeah I've been running quite bad this month. Crashed my motorbike twice in less than 4 days. I can't make left turns #asiandriver. First time I was going 100 and hit the brakes too late and too hard. 2nd time I was probably drunk and didn't see the turn fast enough. Didn't help that the road was super sandy either. The 2nd time hurt way more than the first even though I was going tops 80. Ate the ground and f'd up my chin. Also think I'm missing a chunk of my inner lip. It feels weird when I eat.

Pokerwise I've been running bad as well. Definitely was some play bad when I started running bad, which makes me quite disappointed in myself. Borrowed The Mental Game of Poker by Jared Tendler from one of the Phuketeers and am making my way through it. On a quick side note I think I have ADD now. I used to be able to sit down and read for hours (huge bookworm when I was younger) and now I can barely sit and read because my thoughts are all jumbled in my head. Anyways yeah, the book is quite good. Definitely recommend to anyone who is looking to take poker seriously.

So yeah, more battling with the Swede and he basically runs like Jesus. Can't count the times I've gotten it in crushing all in preflop in situations where I'm just never ever bluffing but he sticks it in anyways. Not much you can do about it I guess. I've decided to not sit him heads up for my sanity's/bankrolls sake.

I've also decided to watch some new videos that I at first brushed off as being likely terrible. It's probably been a month since I've been openminded to switching up my game. Trying a few new things and lowering the tables I'm allowing myself to play so that I can take better notes and work through gameflow better. Pretty sure I can play up to 16 and still win, granted at a lower winrate, but I'm playing on a 17inch monitor and the overlap doesn't allow me to gather all the information by just glancing at a certain section of my monitor. Not allowing myself to play more than 12, though 8-10 is probably best.

These will be my last 2 weeks in Phuket and I'm going to miss it when I'm gone. Flying back to Hong Kong for supposedly 2 months but I think I'm going to cut it short and come back. I it here. Flying my family out to Hong Kong so I can spend Christmas with them (coughandsatisfymyconsciousfornotgoingbacktotheSta teswiththem).

We had an awesome Thanksgiving dinner last night with the Phuketeers, huge turnout. 3turkeys, 5? pies, macaroni casseroles, mashed potatoes, salmon somethingorother, and much much more. It was just a great time being able to spend time with our 'family' even though the majority of us aren't even American. I ended up playing Thai Baccarat with the Thai girlfriends for hours. They are the total degenerates. Started with a 20baht bill ended up with ~2.5k baht. To be fair, I ran quite hot. The dealer has a huge edge in the game because they act last and get to take different actions vs different sets of cards. To make the game more fair dealer should be swapped every few hands or so but they're quite superstitious so when they see a dealer lose a few times they like to let them stay (or if they see the dealer win a few times they think the next few times they'll lose, fishmentalityimo). Played til like 6 in the morning.

Anywho enough about my life because I'm quite sure no one really cares and more poker content.

Since I'm crippled I can't really do anything but grind. Well I'm not really crippled but the roadrash and scars haven't really scabbed up and they hurt like a #jamiefoxxinhorriblebosses. So I can't go to the beach or play volleyball. Boo. #mindonthagrind

Been reading more of The Mental Game of Poker but trying to go through the book slowly so I don't miss much. I'm obviously going to miss many things the first time around so I'm going to reread it a few times. It's been helping me to understand my own thought processes and the flaws in them (although there are some things I don't entirely agree with, which might be a flaw in itself).

I do believe I am playing better though, which is a boost to my confidence. Definitely does help when the results point you in the right direction as well.

Oh and we have a Phuketeer nearing the final table of APT Macau with a pretty decent chip stack. 494k USD for first. GOGOGO #vamoo #wishihadapiece #goodruck

This one actually turned out to be a huge cooler, didn't expect him to be that strong. Villain is competent, didn't expect to get more than 2 streets (2 streets tops) out of 2nd pair hands. His most likely holdings are pocket pairs due to preflop action and stack depth, which I'm generally way ahead(sometimes way behind) of. Decided to underrep my hand and hope he tries to move me off a "pot controlling" 2nd pair that beats his likely 2nd pair.

exploiting regs sounds so fancy and sophisticated but at the micros it's often just best to play your hands/ABC/solid instead of getting FPS and looking for spots to get out of line.

Here's one thing that you can add to your game (sparingly, don't just become a never fold to cbet guy). Reverse Floating
my thoughts on the play have changed a tidbit, as in the ranges you should be floating with. Much less pocketpairs as poker has been moving towards being more barrel happy.

vs better regs you will want to randomize with hands that will have continuing equity instead of those pocketpairs/weak non sdable hands.

was wishing there would be more interest in a video, will probably wait til there is.

didn't see your 2nd question the first time. 20k hands a month is not enough to cut it. and of the posters who post in the Micros I'd probably say 10-15% of them make it out of the Micros and then 70-80% of those players who do make it to 100NL don't make it past 200NL. There is definitely a lot of work to be put in to get far in poker. But it is very rewarding.

---

Let's see.

Friend took 4th in APPT Macau, he wasn't all that happy. Obv sucks to get that close but I think in a week or two he'll be alright. About 130k more alright.

Played in a home game on Friday(?). Degenerate gambling playing made up games obv. Rivers was pretty fun, which is pretty much dealt/bet like Hold em except that everyone gets their own individual rivers. They're allowed to use all 3 cards in their hand to make a playable hand. Obv 72 bounty and everyone was drawing to their 2/7....lol. Another one was fun. Not sure if we had a name for it but lowest spade chops, A plays as a low. Everyone is dealt 4 cards but by the river they only have 2 (so best hand is made as a hold em hand). Flop is dealt, Turn is dealt. On the turn the person to your left chooses a card from your hand to be discarded. Same on the river.

I flopped sets twice but by the river they weren't sets anymore (because my pairs got discarded). I don't think you should be playing pairs. #ups. But yeah it was just a lot of fun eventhoughIdroppedlike4-5k #lolbaht. Roger Mainfield is slightly more funny when drunk.

I've only got 6 more days in Thailand. Less in Phuket if I don't get this plane ticket resolved. . I it here. #idonthaveaithailandshirt. Should probably look to book tickets back and whatnot. I'll be taking December easy as my internet connection in Hong Kong is pretty bad and I want to make the most of my last days in Phuket. Oh and I'm going on a tour with my family in Taiwan.

Yeah and that's about it. It's too early to think and I'm starving.

Hope y'all are well.

@Jex, ruhroh 17 isn't my lucky number...

Ya know they make pills that replicate the emotion of that graph

Also I think you'd be suprised in the interest for a vid if you actually said you were DEFO going to make one and then asked for some input. Plus if you just made one and posted it you'd get a lot of response to it 4sure.

Enjoy ur last few day in Thailand.
