Is there a reason you don’t play on Bovada/Ignition anymore?

Forgive me if it’s somewhere earlier in the thread.

A noble cause, if I do say so myself.

Geez, great work in here. You must have the title for most improved, skill-wise, from the start of a live cash blog, maybe ECGrinder is still on top but it is real close.

Thank you, but I don't feel I've actually improved very much pokerwise in the course of this thread. I have a poor work ethic and haven't played many hands overall. And before the thread started I was a pretty solid player already, just nobody believed me. I grinded $250 into over 20k in 2010 shortstacking 50nl to start and getting lucky in some tourneys. Then in 2012 or 2013 I loaned my car to my friend for a month for $250 and turned that into over 30k in 4 months on bovada and was getting 3k checks every month for a while. Did the same thing started by shortstacking 50nl until 1500 bankroll, then fullstacked 50nl til 2500, then 100nl until 5k and then started playing 400nl at 10k. All without a HUD, hadn't ever used a hud until last year. I'm still the same, a poker bum living at his grandma's house.

I always was pretty good at poker. In fact I may have been better at age 19 then I am now. I played a lot of $20 sngs on pokerrom back in the dorms in 2004/2005 and in 2006 I played a lot of $60/$100 sngs on pokerstars after SAFE PORT act. I'm decent at poker, always have been, always won more than I lost. I have the potential to be much better though, which is a bit disappointing. Can't feel great about where I'm at now, though I can't feel too bad either.

That is clearly true you, were a winner the whole time, but c’mon you came up live playing a $200 max buy $5bb game and IIRC you posted some terribly played hands in those and the $500 cap games.

I mean Limon said that short buy 3/5 game was unbeatable for a decade on here. You beat it for a solid hourly, went on to beat 5/10nl, and have Russian regs sitting out against you.

If you say you have poor work ethic, what do you attribute your ability to beat tough online games to?

I’m assuming your not doing a lot of studying or running sims or whatever. Tough to imagine you could beat guys that are studying/improving without doing so yourself.

Yeah I was a bit rusty at the start of the thread and I did improve some, that's true.

Limon is dead wrong. Short buy 3/5 is very beatable, it just plays very differently from 100bb games. You just have to play very very tight. Like only raise TT-AA,AQ,AK basically. Throw a few other hands in on the button but that's it. Limp with medium pocket pairs sometimes. I definitely know I can beat that $200 game. And it's kind of like Negreanu said "more rake is better", in that game the quality of player is generally very bad. All the pros are sitting at 5/5 and 5/10.

I put my skill down to intelligence and experience. I've played poker since 2003 and when I do play I'm trying to think and put myself in my opponent's shoes. And while I've never ran any sims myself I understand the concept behind the sims. For example if I bet pot on the river I want to be bluffing about 33% of the time in order to make my opponent indifferent between calling and folding. I've understood this concept well before the introduction of sims when I read about pot odds in The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky. And I wouldn't say I do no studying, because I watch a lot of poker content and absorb a lot of knowledge that way which is definitely studying. I watch good players on twitch and listen to their thought process and I watch youtube channels like "finding equilibrium" that dive into sims and stuff like that.

I don't get it either. How can 7 people in a row all fold for $2 into a $69 pot? One of these days I'm going to get them all to fold for that amount and it will be glorious.

Finding Equilibrium is A+ material. Uri Peleg's Guerilla Poker channel on YT is also top notch free content

Got 6th in the $55 nightly on Iggy. Last hand busted AK<KK all in pre for ~8MM chips (22k starting stack). Ouch. Only had 15bb (250k bb) so couldn't be avoided but there were a couple shorter stacks so kinda meh.

Just lost a huge 2.4MM chip pot JJ<88 all in pre with an 8 on the river to finish in 11th place in the $55 nightly on ignition. I only play 2 tournaments a day the $55 nightly on iggy and the $88 loncar on ACR and I've been running deep in them lately but to finish like that just really kind of hurts even though I'm running way above EV even still. Need a top 3 finish to feel good about it. Oh well, tournaments are stupid.

Tournaments are so sick, because you have to run so hot to even get deep, but if you don’t run hot at final tables you’re fvcked.

Really gotta ship one every once in a while to make anything long term.

Yeah for sure but I think if 1 and 2 were permanently locked out for me I'd still be winning slightly. I play a very min cash and beyond style game, where I late reg often and then try to move up into the money and beyond after that. And I feel like final two tables or so I really excel at the game. Min cashed the $55 tonight and got 15th in the loncar also I won the thousandaire. Very strange the thousandaire there was a lot of limping 11 handed by short stacks (<10bb). Super weird.

You must cash at a really high percentage then I’m assuming. Feels impossible to me to make money without final tabling relatively often. How late on avg do you reg? 20bb starting, 10bb starting?

Usually at the 10bb level. But sometimes I'll reg a tourney earlier because I want to play but I think I have the highest ROI by late regging.

Rick, several years ago I was walking home in London and I saw an advert at a bus stop where the guy looks identical to you. I took a picture of it, and forgot all about it until today when I looked through an old phone...

Well you're obv confident in your push fold game which is great but you do realize all the ev you're giving up by not playing deep against fish right?

Not much honestly. Maybe I'm just not that good deep stacked but I don't feel like the +chipEV I gain on average from the early portion of most tournaments makes up for negative EV from buying in early due to ICM. It's close to a wash at best simply because it's so easy to cash with the structure of these tournaments.
