Thanks guys. I get an extra hour because of daylight savings, that's cool. Tomorrow is D-Day, the main event. I'm going to bed right now. Gonna get inside early tomorrow and just try to meditate. "Fear is the mind killer" - Dune.

Sigh, not anymore I just busted. Blinds 300-600 ep opens to 1500 Kat Asian lady next to act makes it 3k two callers I look down atQQ in the big blind on abot 48k stack. Thats a lot of dead money already 12k in the middle and for some reason I read the 3k mini raise as being weak and go all-in Kat has AA and calls for a little less. Ultimate teaser flop I see a queen first but there's an ace too. Turn jack wrong paint, river king wrong paint and I lose. Next orbit I jam 3700 with ATos get called by AQ and I'm officially out. I'm sorry guys, I think I'm gonna drive back to LA i don't feel like being in vegas anymore right now. Tough spot.

yikes, not to get results oriented but given flop those monies are all getting in the middle regardless of whether you flat or 4! there and that'd be an absurdly nitty white magic soul read to fold pre

i know you're probably in the dumps right now, but just remember when this thread started you were living in a van down by the river and unsure if poker was going to work out for you and now your entering 10ks

we'll get em next year, i'm always down to buy your action if you're selling again

So these were the players at my table.

Seat 1: Kyle, 25-40yo asian guy. Very solid tight aggressive player. Silent assassin type.
Seat 2: Kat, 30s asian woman nice friendly, more on the passive side vs this lineup.
Seat 3: (Forgot his name but I think it was Daniel maybe?) 50ish yo guy from Georgia. Probably the biggest spot at the table but not bad. Just a little too loose preflop. But fairly good and aggressive postflop.
Seat 4: Ed, ~70yo guy old man coffee type, his wife was standing on the rail watching him play. Kat told us that she saw them holding hands waiting in line to register the day before.
Seat 5: Maria Lampropulous, much prettier in person. Also very aggressive player.

Seat 6: TJ age 35. Solid live pro. Wearing Dallas Cowboys gear. He had won a couple of tournaments already this year for 180k and 75k. Very good player.
Seat 7: Blair Hinkle age 35 (just googled "blair poker player" and this is him.) From Kansas City, wearing KC headband and a very good solid pro. Won a bracelet in 2008.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blair_Hinkle
Seat 8: me
Seat 9: Fabio mid 20s ish Austrian wearing FCB (Barcelona soccer) pants. Made a very good call versus Maria on the river in a 3bet pot. Maria opened MP he 3bet the blinds. The board was queen high with 4 spades on the river and he called a near pot bet with JJ no spade and Maria had ATos no spade.

I feel bad for forgetting seat 3's name. At the table Blair and TJ were telling each other their age and I was like I'm 35 too! Bunch of Moneymaker boomers.

I asked TJ and Blair if I misplayed the hand after and they seemed to think it was ok. TJ pointed out that I should have been more suspicious of the mini 3bet by Kat and I think he's right, I don't know why I misread that as weak.

Also, losing other people's money feels worse than losing my own money.

Yeah, thanks. Maybe I don't go broke if I call, jack turn makes a straight. I think 4bet folding was probably the right play to be honest. I just really didn't see Kat waking up with aces there. I was really more worried about seat 1, Kyle, having kings or aces as the original raiser. He thought for a while too before folding which scared the crap out of me, after he folded I thought I was golden. I don't know why but I thought Kat would have raised bigger pre with aces to protect the hand, but I guess I was wrong. While jamming 80bbs as a squeeze with QQ in that spot is not super terrible, after thinking it over and given the table dynamics I think I can comfortably 4bet fold there. I don't think there was a single 4bet in 9 hours from anyone at the table and I don't think Kat (or Kyle) would 5bet jam anything but KK or AA there preflop.

I wasn't going to comment on the hand in particular because I know how it feels to bust a 10k particularly the ME especially when you don't get to play them often and I didn't want to rub any salt on the wound even if the intent was to be constructive.

But since you seem open to talk about it I'll just leave some thoughts here.

Like you said this is actually a super easy 4bet fold spot where you are not going to get exploited in this instance.

A few keys here. Villain Kat who is a passive middle aged Asian lady. She is 3 betting an UTG opener. Red flag #1. The fact that it's a min raise I wouldn't read too much into that. What's important is that she's willing to open the action vs an EP raiser when she herself is also in EP. She will not be 5 bet bluffing AK. With 80bb this is the easiest 4bet to 8.5k and fold to further action. Even if she flats you just play very very cautiously post and I would still assume a range of JJ+ and maybe AKs and play accordingly.

2nd thing here is that this is not just any tournament. This is the ME which has a super slow structure. You are not in any danger or pressure to play hands this early. You just have so many better and easier spots later on there really is no need to even take a close spot like this. Given the structure I would basically not get in anything other than AA pf on day 1. It's just not really worth it given how deep you are and how long the blinds are. There are just so many other easy punts you will come across it's an unnecessary risk imo.

And yeah given what the flop turned out to be you might've been destined to get crippled here regardless, but it's always good to take what you can from your experience.

Again hopefully this doesn't come across in a mean spirit, live and learn for next time. We're all always learning after all.

Sharpen our swords for the next bullet.

Yeah I'm glad you agree 4bet fold is the right play. It's one of those situations where the solution is right in front of my face. Like when someone else is in a hand and they're the only person who can't see the solution because they're emotionally involved in the hand. That was me in that hand. Probably everyone else at the table could see it was spew or could feel it. A spot where if I wasn't involved I'd know it was a mistake. I'm sorry that I lost you money man and I feel bad, I played scared, but that's part of poker too, it happens sometimes. If it was a standard cooler I wouldn't feel bad, but I know better than that. I am better than that, and I feel like I let myself down and those who invested in me. But I really appreciate everyone else's attitude and not giving me too hard of a time on it. Thank you.

Yeah I get what you mean, but don't feel bad man. Remember that I'm a busto 20NL player who chip dumps to himself at 500NL on Ignition, so I can afford to lose the money.

I made day 2 for this Sunday's Million tourney on ACR a couple days ago, but then when I checked the list of entrants my screenname wasn't there. I emailed ACR and they credited me with the chip value of my stack ($779) plus 3 $215 tickets. So all-in all not a bad deal. The tournament on Sunday is going to have a few hundred thousand overlay I'm pretty sure because of this glitch. I'm going out to eat with my family on Sunday now though so I'm not going to try to requalify. Maybe next week.

"Our records show that you participated in a recent flight for the $1,000,000 GTD Million Dollar Sunday tourney ($215 buy-in). Unfortunately, there was a system error and qualifying players were not moved forward for the Day 2 this Sunday.

To make it up to you, we are paying you cash based on your chip amount for that individual flight. In addition, we are crediting you with tourney tickets.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Please let us know if you have any questions.
" -ACR

Thin Bomb Pot

Hero BB ($203) 94hh
Villain 1 UTG+2 ($81) 84os
Villain 2 HJ ($197) 43os

$1/$2 bomb pot

Flop ($69) 943ddx

We just rip it in for $195, villains call and everyone else folds. We hold and win. This is the kind of hand I normally like to play in bomb pots.

Yeah I guess you are supposed to filter out ultra nits with that much time left and set mine or just peek at one Q or K and dump without being tempted if it wasn’t 12.5-1 SPR or whatever. I’d just smile and try to enjoy the ride back and some good herb and think about other leaks outside of your poker game. Who cares it’s just money and you got to live the dream at 35 many are still chasing

Folding A Straight

$1/$2 bomb pot

Hero LJ ($200) 76os
RockBrain MP ($200) T7os
Villain BTN ($41) Jh6x

Flop ($69) T98hhx

Checks to me and I bet half pot $36, villain calls all in on the button and RockBrain jams all-in. We fold. I'm a little surprised to see his hand and maybe we should just be ok with going broke here? Not sure. Got a few thousand hands vs this player and he's pretty solid.
