Some players have started calling me "The Hammer". A few days ago I got check raised while holding the ace high flush draw, so I jammed for a huge overbet against a player at the other end of the table. He folded. I looked over at the guys on my end of the table and said "I call that play 'the Hammer'". Lol they cracked up, which is what I was going for. Started a conversation and said things like "I got names for all my plays". I like to be sociable and have a good time at the poker table. I never wear headphones, a hoodie, and sunglasses only if my eyes are really bloodshot and recently I haven't bothered. I do my best to promote a fun atmosphere at the table, I'll show some cards when it might hurt my game just to be fun and playful.

Where are you visiting from? What's the purpose of your visit, just to play poker? Hopefully you can talk to some of the players in the 5/10 game and ask them what they think about me. As a player, and as a person, and then you can report back to this thread to give it some authentic flavor. That would be cool with me. And you can evaluate and assess my play for everyone and who knows? Maybe I'll punt a stack to you....

Thanks buddy. Sleeping in your car will humble you real quick. Trust me, try it. That's what I liked about this new pope. I understand what you are trying to say. Open sizes are much larger in the 5/10 because of the deep nature of the game it just plays bigger. For an excellent player like myself, the 5/10 game is clearly more profitable. But I get what you are saying about scared opponents. What I'm saying is they are scared of moving up though, not scared to play in their comfort zone (5/5).

Well yesterday was going well for a while. We were up 1700 and then the world turned. Lost a big pot with kings and then called in a spot that was so bad that two other players announced "full house" when I called my opponent. Lol, woops! Oh well, I'll get em next time (today)!

Soul Read Hero Bluff

Hero BB (covers) T7dd
Villain MP (~$2400) ?? MAAG 5/10 reg

EP opens for 35 and Villain calls another players calls and I call in the BB, 4 players to the flop.

Flop QT5dd ($140)

I lead out with my pair and flush draw for 85. I have a wide donk bet strategy, I'm not too into check raising or check calling, I'd rather take the lead and I've had success with this strategy. I check raise or check call more when I'm up against very aggressive competition. Then I kinda let them hang themselves.

Villain calls 85 everyone else folds.

Turn 8x($310)

Ok now for some reads on villain. He has been lamenting how he is down for the day and is giving off the feeling that he is playing scared. Also this is the type of player that I feel like would put a raise in with a really strong hand on such a wet board as that flop. He is not one to slowplay, imo. So I assess his hand as a strong 1 pair hand, KQ,AQ, and also possibly draws like KJ or better flush draws. Based on how he percieves me and the range I put him on I feel like I can blow him off his entire range here with a pot sized bet.

I bet $315 and after thinking for 30secs or so he calls.

Uh-oh, I wasn't expecting him to call there.

River 6x ($940)

Here we are at the river with a pair of tens. But this guy didn't raise the turn what the hell could he have?? He would raise even J9dd imo on the turn so his range is definitely capped here. But to what? KK? AQ? Thats what it feels like to me. But more than what he has I'm just getting a soul read from. He's down for the day, he knows I'm not too crazy and theres a bunch of money out there. I feel like I can get him to lay his hand down. No guts no glory!!!!

"All-in" ~2k

I start staring at a fixed point on the table as per usual when I'm all-in whether I have it or not and try to clear my head and remain calm. He asks how much I put it out there its about 2k he has about the same and someone says "covers" which helps my case . He's asking what I have, do I have AQ? A few mins go by and he starts holding his cards like hes about to fold and then miraculously he mucks face up.

QT. Weeeeeee!!!!! Other players around him seem to think he should have called. I don't say or show my hand. He folded what should be the top of a capped range on a board with several missed draws against an opponent capable of pulling the trigger. What hands does he call with? Nothing? I mean if he didn't think I was a good player he wouldn't be folding there because I mostly just peddle the nuts. I'm too stupid to be afraid!

I play for the thrill of victory, I don't play to eat.

Kings Cracked

Hero UTG+1 (covers) KK
Villain UTG+2($1195) AQos

Villain in this hand is an obnoxious drunk. The word obnoxious cannot be overstated. He is calling other players "stupid" "trash" and other insults. He is tipping $25 a hand and then insulting other players for not tipping as much, asking the dealer how much such and such player tipped. He also says "I don't tip a lot, you guys tip a lot, it's your money I'm winning". He's told us he's won 4500 playing ultimate texas holdem earlier. He's ordering coors lights by the double and the rest of the table is generally laughing when he insults our play because he is so terrible.

I limp with KK utg+1. I would never, ever, ever limp this hand under no circumstance, except this one. This obnoxious drunk is playing wayyyy too many hands and raising way too many of them. He might be clever enough to spot my limp which is why I normally wouldnt limp but I feel good about it this time. Also he is directly on my left so I can put a big squeeze in.

Villain raises to 45 and everyone else folds to the blinds who both call. It's on me and I decide to make it kinda big knowing that he won't fold even knowing I have a big hand and also its going to aggravate him that I limp raise here he is just going to want to put a bad beat on me because of it. I grab 9 purple chips and toss them out there. Reraise to 235. He jams 1195, blinds fold I call.

Board A239J

He binks the ace on the flop and takes it down. I take it well, it's expected in my mind. I say after the hand "Maybe if I tipped more I would have won the hand!" He smiles. He might have talked crap to everyone else at the table but he wasn't to me. Maybe because at 5'8" 120 lbs I'm so big and physically imposing that people know not to mess around with me?? I try to keep the fun players having fun.

He busted his stack within 30mins rebought another 1k and busted that quickly. At some point the floorman came over to warn this guy not to swear and insult the players and while the drunks back was turned talking to the floorman the whole table was making silent faces and gestures at the floorman to gtfo! Lol, leave our fish alone they were saying! I didn't get a piece I just deposited funds into the ATM. Oh well.

Tiltingly Wrong Hero Call

Hero BB (~$1500) JTos
JJ De La Garza UTG +2(covers) 88

JJ opens to 35 from early position and 4 people call, its on me in the bb I close the action, lots of players so I call with JT.

Flop ($210) J99dxx

Everyone checks.

Turn ($210) 8d

I bet $95, JJ calls everyone else folds.

River ($390) 3x

I check and JJ bets 600. This should be an easy and immediate fold. Instead I ponder it for a bit and wonder why he bet so much. I feel like he doesn't think I can call this bet and that he is trying to blow me off my hand with missed diamonds. Then I notice a live read which I wont say that reinforces my belief that he is weak. I eventually decide to call with my JT and before he even turns up his cards, two other players at the table announce "full house". Lol goddamn I'm bad. I guess JJ just never has anything else here. Now I know. Effing dumb of me.

This hand tilted me a bit, that and the obnoxious drunk continuing to be loud and obnoxious didn't help me. But you know what after I thought about it for a bit, I realized that in the moment I wasn't sure and I went with my gut feeling. I gotta feel good about that. Sure I'm gonna get it wrong once in a while and I can correct my mistakes and play better, but I'm not going to stop trusting my gut. Sometimes you gotta go out on a limb and do something stupid in poker. I accept it.

Yeah I always cringe when I look back at anything I've written. I'm sure this thread will be the worst but whatever, hopefully it's fun in the moment. I eat fine I had an appendectomy 8 years ago so I cant eat too much greasy crap food. I'm 5'8" 120lbs. It is what it is. My blood pressure was 108/62 last I checked so I might live forever. Not sure how that works.

I've been playing the 5/10 game for ten days straight or something like that, I'm up, not sure how much, just posting results playing my game. I will keep posting honest results and either the fish on a heater comments will turn to variance caught up with the fish or they will keep saying I'm a fish on a heater! LOL I love it!!! I need to spend more time in the casino and less time posting on 2p2. Gonna try to speed up my process. Before I've been dragging my feet just messing around on the internet too much. You really gotta love poker to be successful imo.

Thanks everyone for pointing out how lame it is for me to say good things about myself. I am old enough I should have learned this by now. Obviously I'm not that smart. I will try to keep this thread dedicated to self deprecation and degeneracy.

Played with Francisco from Live at the Bike fame. He played very well, had good instincts, and then he called off 200bbs drawing dead with AQ vs 22 on AK28 board. If your gonna go with your instincts in calling off 200bb with one pair no draw you better be right.

At my grandma's house.

Results 4/15: +$730

While at the bathroom sink, an older asian gentleman asks "How I'm doing today?" I reply "ok" and ask him hows hes doing. "Down a little bit"

The chip runners and floor people know my initials, a few players know my name, numerous people nod and say hello. Maybe I do spend too much time here lol!

Interesting Hand

Hero Buy BTN aka post both blinds (covers) K9os
Villain 1 HJ (~$1200) ??
Villain 2 BTN (~$1000) ??

Both villains and another player limp preflop, I check. 4 players to the flop.

Flop ($40) K63ss

Everyone checks to Villain 2 who bets 35, I call villain 1 calls and other guy folds.

Turn ($145) Jx

Now once Villain 1 calls I put him on a flush draw. And I think Villain 2 could have just been betting the flop because of position. So I don't want to check and have both guys check behind me. I feel like I have the best hand so I'm going to bet it. I think this is where I played the hand different than most people. Leading out on the turn here, I think, is a smart play.

I bet 70. Both players call. I'm a little surprised to see Villain 2 call but not convinced I'm beat.

River ($355) 8x

All the draws missed. Can't value bet this hand but we can check and call if someone bets. Check check, villain 2 bets 250. I don't think he can have a value hand here the way it played out. Maybe he slowplayed two pair or rivered two pair but otherwise I should be good here. I think villain 1 can't overcall either. I call, villain 1 folds and V2 says "youre good" I show K9 and we win.

Having a great time at the tables!

When you've missed the big blind but not the small blind, the button is on the player to your right, the player on your left should be the small blind and the guy to his left the big blind. In this scenario you can "buy the button" aka you post the small and big blind instead of the other guys. The small blind is pulled into the middle as dead money and there is only one big blind. Next hand you are the button and the two guys on your left are the blinds as normal. This is buying the button, I hope I explained it well

Let's talk about some of the regs in the game. Probably the most reg of all regs would have to be Song. Middle aged Korean guy who wears a Von Dutch hat. He's legit, definitely a grinder, seems like he's on the day shift always there when I show up. Clocking in and clocking out on the regular.

Then we have the group of hooligans from the UK. There's like 10 of them, at least, and they infest the 5/10 games at Commerce. Most of them are cool. The problem is though that they are good players, they mostly keep to themselves and are definitely sharing information about other players. On one occasion a couple of them kept getting up from their seats and whispering to each other, which pissed me off, so I said "Hey no whispering, english only!" in a serious tone. They claimed they were whispering about another casino. I really don't care, it doesn't look right. I'd prefer them to speak in another language lol. So yeah too many english chaps at the Commerce Casino. And yesterday I was in a game with 4 Spaniards. Like wtf? Where are all these Euros coming from??? (Yeah, I know, Europe!)

Results 4/16: -$400 Regressing towards the mean.

I can't believe I somehow only lost 400 dollars yesterday. Yesterday felt like I was going to lose everything that I brought with me to the casino. Like I was down 2k to begin with. I'm embarrassed to admit this punt because honestly it's just going to reveal what a trash player I am. And I felt like crawling under a rock when the hand happened too. The only reason I didn't lose all my money is because I happened to pick up a couple big hands and get paid. I'm sure if I had nothing in those spots I was going to probably blast away anyway. Patience didn't save me, I just started getting cards.

Gift-Wrapped a Stack

(Yes this hand really happened this way )

Hero UTG (covers) KK (no heart)
Villain UTG+2 (~$1250) 44

Hero raises to 35, villain calls and another player calls.

Flop 942hh ($105)

Hero bets 60, villain raises to 155 and the other player folds. I think about it for a while. What was my thought process?

So after thinking, well of course I decide to go all-in. It's worked before! Worst case scenario, I need a king! Well I needed a king, and I didnt get it.

Hero raises to ~1200 villain looks at me like I'm an idiot and calls. Everyone at the table knows I have a flush draw. Flush comes in on the river. He shows his set I muck, and the whole table is confused.

Please tell me how I don't belong here based on this one hand. Really. My idiot tree just grew another branch. A big fat one. How big is your idiot tree? I'm not joking, I'm going to make all the mistakes just so I know for sure they are mistakes. This might cost us some money in the short term but some day I'll be able to look over at my idiot tree and see "Look at that branch fool! Don't do that again!" Nah meen?
