Any talk of writing off means you have to file as a professional gambler and with that you get to net your total for the year instead of claim winning sessions as income and then take off losing sessions, which is good but then you have to pay 15% self employment tax on top of what tax you owe.
That really only work out good for you if your a traveling tourney pro with lots of Plane, hotel, car, gas, etc. expenses.

+1 to that. Vegas is the place to be here in a couple of months. I will be there and I now a number of a lot of 2+2's will be there as well. Don't go to Toronto.

I would also 2nd not going to grind house now. Its gonna be nasty wet spring in Canada at that time. I would kill AC, take the slow ride out west hitting up the best poker rooms in between, and meet up with some of those around the country posting here.

Yeah you guys are right, the move is westward. It's freezing in NYC so I can only imagine how cold it is in Toronto. I went to my younger cousins basketball game tonight. Felt good on the inside. Bought my sister some stuff for her new apartment. I feel like being successful equals trading off meaningful relationships. I'm going to build up some relationships with family and friends over the next month. It will make me a well rounded person and in turn a better poker player. I'm going to get healthy and work hard on my poker style too. I'm leaving in 30 days. Back to the road, it's who I am. I'm probably heading south first before I head west. I have driven to vegas twice from Tampa. If I was you I would make my way toward Hard Rock in Tulsa, OK stopping at whatever rooms are good on the way, Ive never been north of Tulsa in my car.
From there its like 10 hour drive to Sandia Casino in Albuquerque,NM then its around 9 hours to Vegas baby.
I would check the weather for snow storms I got caught in some nasty weather on I40 one time.

Just completed reading this entire thread in one sitting, wooah. I came out for my first wsop in 2009 and the action is ridiculous during that time. You will not regret your decision for coming out west.

I moved out here shortly after that first wsop and you will not find a shortage of 1/2 and 2/5 games to play, not to mention your a 5 hour drive or so from LA.

Keep up your grind, but along the way when you finally get that nice score make sure you start to stick to some more efficient bankroll management. You do that and you can easily turn your adventure into a lifestyle (- the homelessness)

i go to ohio state and i can vouch for these card rooms being the softest and most brain dead ppl i have ever played poker with

Drinking a Sierra Nevada and eating shelled peanuts and pretzels while watching high stakes poker. I forgot for a second that poker enabled me to enjoy some down time. I urge you, take a day off and chill. Your life in general will be better because of it
