Just out of curiosity, why are we sitting a 10/20 table with 42.5bb, and when we are so short why are we flatting for a spr 1.5 ip vs a presumed loose player.

Didn't see you at Aria in the PLO games.
Still putting up with the slow and terrible dealers at Rio?

Awesome thread. Just read the first post though. Too much literature, where are all the pretty pictures?

Lol just witnessed this dialogue between 50 year old guy and dealer

"How much is in the pot"
"Seventy"
"Huh?"
"Seventy" [slightly louder]
"Jesus woman don't yell at me"

And yes, 7 way limped pot in a 7-handed game

Don't tell me you are playing the Rio Soft action to say the least from what I've seen during tourney breaks (the OMC version) but I've seen some pretty good looking PLO at Bellagio this week.

Closing out a 4 year chapter of my life today

Feels so weird... gonna miss a lot of things. Most of all the spontaneous road trips with friends

Anyway, small poker tip: When playing against someone who has a friend/wife/etc. railing them, with or without hole cards, take a lot of time to consider how this will affect their play. For some examples to start off with (in no particular order):

1. A lower-middle class guy with his wife railing who can see his hole cards may choose to play very ABC, aka "correctly", so she doesn't think he's spewing their money.
2. A whaley rich station type who habitually mucks and claims to have some strong 2nd best hand will be much tighter if his friend is railing his cards.
3. A rambunctious party kind of guy with one of his drinking buddies railing who wasn't shown hole cards may try to go for a crazy bluff so he can flip it over triumphantly when the villain folds. And yes, I said "when the villain folds" and not "if the villain folds", because that's what his thought process is- he doesn't think of failure.
4. An aspiring young pro type with a respected, experienced grinder railing his cards may choose to go for a razor thin value bet in a show-off kind of way.
5. A meek guy being nagged by a princess type girlfriend probably has an ultra-premium hand if he chooses to VPIP at all.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
All of these reads are really minor and specific, but they are just that- a few of millions of minor and specific things in poker that are slowly learned through experience and contribute bit by by to your edge. I've lost the passion to truly love breaking down every possible scenario I can think of and analyzing what the best response would be. For those of you who still have it, cherish it.
I'll keep you guys updated on the new job
got a flat tire on the way home from Commerce today
2 super nice random Mexican guys stopped and took ~20 mins to help me fix it (I knew how to do it but wasn't super confident. I know how to now). So me and Sol Reader did an over/under on this, just curious what you guys think:
At the time they see my 2009 Honda Civic pulled over on the side of the freeway, when they stop to help how much on average (mean) $$ do they expect to be tipped?
Wait, WHAT Is not standard in your part of the world to simply pull over and help out a fellow in need? Perhaps I have been spoiled in Northern Canada, but when someone breaks down, every single car pulls over and it would be very rude if a car didn't
I didn't think anyone helped people out these days. Too dangerous. Similar to picking up hitchhikers..it just doesn't happen today. When I was 7 years old I hitchhiked from Iowa to Mexico no problem (1400+ miles). When I was 23 years old I tried hitchhiking from Dallas to the suburbs (~25 miles) and was only picked up one time and that was by a couple of crackheads. After realizing they were in no condition to drive I bailed (made most of the journey on foot).
Really, I think you've been in the gambling world too long. I don't think most people think like that. 2009 Civic...ummmmm....$0?
In my part of the woods, every single vehicle stops (we are talking about northern Yukon here). As far as hitchhiking goes, I did over 50 000 kms in my 20s, this includes Canada numerous times, USA, Australia and Mexico. I believe it is a sad part of the world if people do not stop for either offering help in need or a ride... Just saying, it is a big world out there and yes there is still lots of good/friendly people (spend time in Canada or Australia, people are friendly and helpful..). And lol at thinking in terms of $$$ when helping someone
edit : by the way, I had a flat 3 days ago. The first vehicle stopped and helped me out, the second vehicle slowed down, and we waved it off after he made sure we were alright, and the third vehicle gave me a ride back into town (had to get the rim changed).
The fear of hitchhikers is probably a bit irrational considering most of the time it's the hitchhiker that gets murdered, not vice versa. However, pretending to have a broken down car is a common tactic of robbers.
Canada sounds awesome. I live in chicago and people dont stop much as it really is dangerous here and people are just being cautious.
To answer your question, no tip needed. A simple and genuine "thank you, i know u didnt have to stop and i truly appreciate ur help" is sufficient in my opinion.
Also, i think hitchhikers r generally the more dangerous then the person who picks them up but i dont kno the facts on this.
Yeah Canada is basically the tits. No taxes on gambling, low crime, (virtually 0% serious crimes in the lowest rate area in canada where i live, havnt locked my front door in 10 years) and you can be picked up hitchhiking anywhere! (jk no idea never hitchhiked)
I was talking about this with a friend at dinner last night (both of us were young in the early 70s). When I got out of the army I spent about a year hitchhiking (mostly) around the Western US. Never really spent too long getting a ride, not too many hassles from cops, never got threatened or assaulted. We agreed this would be difficult if not impossible today.
As for Aesahs questions about tips, I don't think that anyone who genuinely stops to help would expect a tip. But if I was in that situation I'd offer a little something and say "at least let me buy you guys a couple of beers".
To put it in perspective, I though Aesah's over / under was going to be % chance you get murdered in his situation. Depending on where he's at in this country, I'm not going lower than 20%. Many places are high 80s.
No tip needed obv. that is silly. Beers neat idea but I'm still a bit wary.
I'd be like...The ole' friendly guy on the freeway fix my tire trick eh? I don't think so.
