Stepping out of the LAX airport is a surreal experience. After spending 14 hours on a flight from Sydney you expect to be entering a completely different world, full of unfamiliar languages, strange foods and unknown culture.

At first everything seems to be the same, but then you start to see the differences. The language may be close to a carbon copy, but I've never heard such a large amount of that beautifully nasal Californian accent outside of watching the OC. The food may not be strange, but there's no way I can get fried chicken or tacos that taste anywhere near as good as they do here back home. The culture may be familiar, but there's something different about consuming American culture through TV, books, movies etc. VS actually experiencing it. I've only been here one day so far, but there's really nothing quite like it…

The beginning of this journey doesn't just mark the start of a holiday for me, it also brings about an extended break from the 9-5 grind (more like 9-7 in my industry, but I digress), and the return of the poker grind. When I get back to Sydney, I'll be playing 5-5-10 ($1500 buyin) live PLO with the view on moving up to bigger and better things as I feel my game improves. In the past my main game has been 10-20 nlh, but unfortunately that particular money tree has dried up and entered a perpetual Autumn.

In terms of goals and challenges, they're as follows: (in order of importance)
• Play optimally at all times.
• Study PLO 5-10 hours per week.
• Keep mentally and physically fit - gym 4 times min a week and sleeping at least 7 hours per day on average. I think a major leak of mine in the past has been ignoring, or at least underestimating the importance of this aspect to not only poker, but life in general.
• Play 40+ hours per week, probably 1 day being PLO zoom, 1 day being the Sunday MTT schedule and 3 days being live cash.
• Build my bankroll to the point where I can take shots at 25-50 PLO and comfortably play any high stakes holdem games that pop up.
• Spend January in Melbourne and take shots during the Aussie Millions.

Before that all begins, I have a 6 week roadtrip to the USA where I will be playing a decent amount of poker, but mostly focusing on driving around a bunch of different places in a van with my very close friend and terrible poker player, Jai. This is our rough plan in both visual and data form, depending on your preference! Any recommendations/advice would be appreciated.

On the poker front, I'll be playing the 5/10 live at the bike session on Thursday night, and will probably head into Commerce Wednesday evening to try and find a 10-20 game. Tonight is Jai's birthday, so we're planning on getting hideously drunk. We've heard a place called 'Good Times at Davey Waynes' is a good place to get started. TR to come!

LA is a cool place

Jai (L), Me (R) at our hotel rooftop bar after a drink or 4. (Yes, we know we look ridiculous)

Happy to field any questions, apologies in advance if I'm slow to get back.
