I entered into a staking deal with coaching in early 2014 until I was ready for 200nl. It entailed daily HH reviews, weekly sweats and general poker/strat discussion with some other regs. I dropped 10BI during the first few days @ 25nl but was never in makeup thereafter. Overall it really helped and I derived the most benefit from the regular HH discussions.

I was somewhat familiar with the guy but I don't think hes doing it anymore. If I become aware of any then I will let you know. Perhaps post in the staking forum.

I thought I'd provide a review of my brief escapades in Macau. I bought the package with FPPs which included 5-nights accommodation at the Hard Rock hotel but unfortunately I only stayed for two due to me busting day 1a

            Hotel:

The event location itself was smaller than expected and was really quite chilly. I only brought shorts and t-shirts because the weather is typically very warm and humid at this time of year but I obviously failed to account for the air-cons

            Venue:

My first table was pretty reggish but there was one whale reg and one super weak/nitty older live reg (flatted AKo in BB vs wide CO open). There was one hand in particular that really surprised me, the villain in question is the Chinese reg in the white t-shirt who's pictured above..

I opened red JJ UTG 8-handed @ 50/100, folds to CO who calls, SB and BB defend. Flop comes K74ss, I check, CO stabs 450, SB folds, BB calls and I fold.

Turn comes 5x, BB checks to CO who bets 850, BB raises to 2150, CO calls.

River comes 2x, BB bets 2150, CO tank-calls.

BB reluctacntly shows Q6ss, CO flips over ATcc and scoops..

Unfortunately I did a lot of check-folding in MW spots, perhaps under-playing certain hands and giving my opponents too much credit/assigning more 'standard' ranges in spots where people are actually much wider. Another example of a spot I think I misplayed went as follows:

I open KKdh UTG (different table) to 2.5x, folds to SB who calls, BB defends. Flop comes J87ddh, checks to me and I xb.

Turn comes Jh (two tone now), SB leads 2/3p, BB calls and I end up tank-folding.

River comes 2x, check-check and SB shows TT and scoops.

At the time I didn't think SB would lead 99-TT for such a large sizing into two strong and one uncapped range. My range still contains plenty of Jx as well as QQ+ (although perhaps I'm perceived to be more capped than I actually am because lol_live and their 90% c-bet strategies) and BB can have a plethora of Jx, boats and some straights. While I didn't give SB credit for too many Jx combos I thought he would be more polarised than he was, and given my double flush blockers I decided to makea strong fold. Obviously it ended up being wrong and would've been the difference between a 26k stack compared to the 15k it left me, but oh well..

I made another huge mistake that luckily wen't unpunished.. I'm in the BB with around 20k and look down @ Q9o. We're on the same table as above and it folds to the BTN who opens to 700 @ 150/300/ante. I have 3 x 100 chips invested in the BB and I flick in what I thought was a 500 chip and remove 1 x 100 chip in attempt to defend. The table sort of flinches and it dawns on me that I actually flicked in a 5k chip. I'm kind of stunned and the table starts discussing the situation. The floor is quickly called and the situation is explained and the floor says my raise to 5200 stands, despite my intention to call. SB pleads my case explaining that I did indeed withdraw 2 x 100 chips (highlighting my intention to call) and reminds the floor that he has discretion but the floor isn't interested. All the while BTN has remained quiet and looks distressed/confused and exclaims he's not sure if he's being angled. I've barely said a word and at this point I obviously stfu and attempt to remain calm and look composed. BTN ends up tanking for 2 mins and apparently mucked Ax, fearing a possible angle. I end up apologising and pleading my innocence

All in all I'm glad I went but I think it was naive to assume a seamless transition. I believe my technical game was one of the strongest in the event but I certainly lacked the live acumen/experience required to really press my edge. I will definitely be looking to attend more of these events as I think they are good value but I hope to come better prepared in the future!

I played a bit more online since last update and won a few stacks. Overall May wen't OK as I did meet my EVBB goals, played fairly well and got in some decent volume. That said, I did drop around $4k for that trip which takes a huge chunk out of this months winnings and there is still much work to do!

I don't want to out anyone but this particular villain is pretty tight VPIP-wise but also fairly active/aggro, just not in this spot IMO. I don't think it's as absurd as it looks based on the following assumptions, combined with my populations reads.

Firstly, my betting range OTR is fairly polarised, probably Jd+ with a whole bunch of Ad combos as well as some bluffs. So it's a spot where if he were to bluff he would/should likely employ a smaller sizing as my river bet/call range is perceived to be extremely inelastic (ie. never folding Ad and probably not calling without it). This, IMO, means his bomb-XR sizing is extremely concerning and he probably has those two combos at 95% frequency.

Now we must consider villains range. While villain does stab wider than most OTT, his bluffing range will still surely require some equity/flush blockers. Therefore I really don't expect villain to get to the river with too much pure air, and he if somehow did then he would almost certainly just bet it as he has FE and does need some bluffs here. So now we get to his river checking range. It's going to be some value-turned to SDV, some small % air/giveups and some traps (primarily the two straight-flush combos). If villain were to have a straight flush it would be a reasonable spot to XR as he should expect a reasonable re-open freq. from hero given board runout, heros tendencies and unblocking Ad combos - which are NEVER perceived to fold). Ultimately, as previously discussed, if he did somehow get to the river with pure air and decided not to bluff it, then YOLO changed his mind vs heros small re-open, I would expect a smaller sizing vs heros highly inelastic bet/calling range.

TLDR/close strat/LOLMATHLOLBALANCE: I have never seen a reg bluff here in all my millions of hands of NLHE, especially not for this sizing.

Reads: Villain gets to the flop really wide and doesn't fold to cbets either. The Tx turns favours his range -> I check a lot of my range. This combo is a pretty sexy turn XC as I still have a lot of SDV vs his draws (89s, J9s, KJ, AJ/AQ, Axdd and low dd combos) and he's 100% bluffing my outs OTR. When we get to the river I don't think he's jamming Qx as my range is protected with KK+ and boats, plus we block Qx anyway so I just click call and hope to run into one of his bluffs
