Honeymoon or Bust! Honeymoon or Bust!

Hi everyone. For those that don't know me, my name is John. I'm the primary creator of the software Leak Buster, Ace poker drills, among other things. I've played poker on a professional or semi-professional level for over 8 years. I've done a lot of strategy posting on 2+2 from sometime back, and some of my posts are still 'welled' on here somewhere as well.

I'm getting married June 1st, and my goal is to win 8k before then to pay for our honeymoon. I only play very part time now, and I'm basically starting from scratch on Bovada. Pre-black friday I played anywhere from 10/20 - 2/4NL, mostly 6-max and some heads up. Post black friday I've focused more on my business and not playing nearly as much. Also, I started with a $500 bankroll on Bovada and that was a bit of a pain in the ass to get on there. So I am currently playing 50nl-200nl, building and also withdrawing because, well, I just don't trust any sites post black Friday.

Current bankroll: $3624

Left to goal: $4376

These are current stats since I could begin tracking on Bovada. I had to create a program to be able to import my data. I've also had to adjust my game tremendously on here. It took me a week or so to really bring down my aggression and allow the players on there to make their odd bluffs into me. I think my aggression went from about 4.3~ normal to about 3.3. It's difficult in some ways because even though you know their exact hand, they don't know how to think through ranges, and they don't know how to fold. So bluffing is typically -EV, and it's no good for image either since the tables are anonymous. Not to say there's never any bluffing, but mostly small and medium pots at most.

I will start posting some hands and keep this as updated as I can until my goal is hit or time is out. Wish me luck.

Haha... we'll still have a honeymoon if I don't make the goal of course, but just trying to get it paid for in my spare time with poker money. We might be living large in the bakersfield, CA super 8 motel, but it will still be a honeymoon. Kidding...

Thanks DkW

Guy was a competent aggressive regular (as far as I could tell). Knew that once I flatted the turn he was capable of turning a lot of hands into bluffs and his range was super polarized to TT or flopped straight. Also didn't bet the turn, which I think I'm typically doing a lot because I thought he would bet a large portion if checked to, but was wrong. Opps.

Ya, agreed. I kind of anticipated the raise honestly.

We're likely going to Aruba or Punta Cana. Likely Aruba though.

This is cool, does your fiancee know this is the plan? If so is she behind it? I like the idea, being yourself to earn the money, I think it's kind of a cool thing to do, but I wonder if she does? Probably right, if she is choosing to marry a player, no? Anyways, kind of an intrusive question, I'm just curious, maybe that's because my gf has the same situation, thou she is largely unaware of same.

Yes, she knows what she's getting into. I run a poker business and play, so she's well aware and totally cool with it. For a teacher she's pretty cool.

And it's not like me playing is going to deviate our plans. If I don't hit the goal, we have plenty of money. I just like paying for all my trips with poker money.

Do you remember your thought process on that AQ hand? It seems like you would have to put villain on 88, TT, or AK for that raise to work. Unless he 3bets wide I guess.

Sure. Villain was definitely capable of 3-betting wide from a steal. The combination of hands that I can get to fold that are better or split such as 66-88,TT,AQ,AK (think I can get all of these to fold just about 99% of the time and also Jx at least 25%ish or more percent of the time) and the fact that I have AQ which reduces the combos of other big pairs such as QQ/AA, and there being a J on board which also reduces JJ too, EV wise I think a raise is slightly better than a call. I don't know enough about his post flop tendencies to say if I call if he'll continue to fire. Most opponents at these stakes will slow down, but some of this don't. I'm not prepared to call 2 streets especially when I will backdoor a decent amount of outs on the turn and be a in weird spot stack wise. I don't think call/fold is a huge difference EV wise, but I think raise was slightly better. If I had more time to do the math perhaps I'd dig in a bit more since I'd be curious to see the exact EV.

Good question though.

Man, planning a wedding is insane. Seriously, it can get pretty overwhelming, and her and her friends are handling most of it. I'm doing a lot of calling, and setting things up as well, but it seems like it's non-stop.

    Latest and greatest:

Been spinning my wheels a lot lately, but starting to turn it back around. Isn't poker fun?

Ok, don't care if no one is reading. Going to talk non-sense, post my info, and also put up some interesting hands. One cool thing about being able to see all the cards at the table is knowing the times I'm really bluffed. In some ways it's been bad though because I can't believe some of the ridiculous bluffs that have been run, and it's made me call in more spots than I probably shouldn't. Mehh...
