So I just found out that the guy who busted me from the $550 turbo tourney was neuronpoker - he streams 500nl and 1knl online and he's an absolute crusher.

I labelled him as a reg but holy sh*t I didn't realise he was this good.

Crypto must have hit him pretty hard to be playing a $500 live turbo when grinding 500-1k online

Maybe he was just playing for fun. I played a $35 pub poker tourney a few days ago too. Nothing wrong with a bit of cheap entertainment to take a break from your regular games.

If he wanted to bumhunt me, he'd come to my cash game tables.

You have a net worth of like 4k. $35 tournaments are BR appropriate.

Wtf no. Appropriate for me is 2/5 NL cash or maybe $400 tournies. I could do 5/10 NL shots too.

And I have almost $20k to work with. You can't just look at my "net worth".

Your lack of understanding of finances is hilarious and disturbing all at the same time.

Aren't there any T/20 or 5/T/20 games going? T/25? Maybe you should convince your 2/5 table to start playing with a $5 ante.

Right now I'm playing 2/3 NL.

But yeah I do realise the 2/5/10 is effectively a 5/10 game. I took some shots and they went well, but I plan to put in most of my volume at 2/3.

2/3 500max is like 2/5 but with 2/3 players. take advantage of it

I will try my best. I think it's definitely softer than 2/5 in Melbourne. And the 2/5 in Melbourne is pretty soft haha.

6,

The vast majority of poker players I know who made over a million at poker were more aggressive moving up stakes than you.

Not saying you should do the same, just sayin’.

Running bad against maniac

Played a 6hr session of 2/3 NL today and ultimately lost $838. At first, the table was fairly tight and I'd slowly grinded up $500 profit in the first 4hrs, but then a maniac sat down and the table went crazy. My luck changed and I proceeded to donate over 1k to the maniac, who then donated it to the rest of the table.

The funny thing is that the maniac had originally bought in for $800 (even though the buyin was $100-$500), but we all kept quiet because we wanted him to play deep-stacked with us. He would play literally 100% of hands and would pull ridiculous overbets with complete air all the time. So here are some hand histories:

Hand 1: Before the maniac arrived

$190 effective, 6-handed
UTG limps $3
Hero raises $20 MP with KJdd
SB calls $20
UTG folds

Flop ($44) Ks Td 4s

SB checks
Hero bets $25
SB calls $25

Turn ($89) Ks Td 4s Jh

SB tanks then jams $145
Hero calls $145

Spoiler:
SB shows QQ but sadly rivers the straight and wins.

Hand 2: My first pot against maniac

$410 effective
UTG limps $3
Hero raises $25 UTG+1 with AKo
UTG+2 calls $25
Maniac calls $25 MP
UTG calls $25

Flop ($95, 4ways) T93r

UTG checks
Hero checks
UTG+2 checks
Maniac jams $385
UTG folds
Hero calls $385
UTG+2 folds

Spoiler:
Maniac has Q3s and holds for a ~$900 pot.

Hand 3: Round 2 against maniac

$500 effective
UTG blind raises $7
Maniac calls $7 UTG+1
4 other callers
Hero 3bets $70 BB with AJo
Maniac calls $70
Everyone else folds

Flop ($162) T98 two-tone

Hero checks
Maniac jams $430
Hero calls $430

Spoiler:
Maniac shows 93o and holds for a 1k pot.

Hand 4: 3ways with fish and maniac

$500 effective with maniac, $250 eff with fish
Maniac raises $6 UTG
2 callers
Hero 3bets $40 SB with ATss
Maniac calls $40 UTG
Fish calls $40 BTN
Everyone else folds

Flop ($116, 3ways) Jd 9d 8h

Hero checks
Maniac checks
Fish bets $50
Hero jams $460
Maniac folds
Fish tank calls $210 all-in

Spoiler:
Runout ($533) Jd 9d 8d 5s Kc

Fish slams down 87o then obnoxiously brags about how he knew I was on a draw. He scoops this one.

Yep. You soul read me. That's why you tanked for so long before calling...

Might play another session later tonight, since I'd planned to put in 8+ hours today, but right now, I need a few hours break to mentally recover.

ak seems spew

idno when u realised he was a maniac but i would prob just borderline start jamming pre/making it much larger even though u seem to have adjusted ur preflop sizes in the right direction. if he's not folding 93o to $70 he's not folding a2o for all in/150

He was more of an aggro maniac than a station maniac. I actually did see him call $20 then fold to a $105 squeeze pre a different hand.

Doesn't seem like the sort of table you want to bloat the pot with ATs out of the small blind either

Yup. How I normally approach maniacs sitting at my table is:

1. Make a hand.
2. Value bet the heck out of them.

It’s not a pretty and shiny strategy like all of the veteran strategies that you’ve talked about ITT. But it seems to work.

You jammed a couple of draws (ie, semi-bluffed) into a maniac that is not folding bottom pair on J98. I know that AT will have a decent amount of equity etc etc. I’m just saying...if villain is going all in whenever they make a pair, there are probably situations you can get into with him where you an 80% favorite instead of a 47% dog.

You guys do realise that most maniacs have a very short expiry date? They rarely stay at the table for more than 1-2 hours.

You can't afford to pass up on marginal spots when you might only get 3 hands against the maniac before he busts to someone else and you never see him again.

Obviously I'd have preferred it if I could actually hit the flop with my AK/AJ/ATs, but that didn't happen, and I just have to work with whatever I'm dealt.

Hand 2 spewy esp with someone behind that likely realizes what's happening.
Hand 3 seems fine.
Hand 4 probably close but fine.
