Whats up guys. About to do something I'm sure most would call crazy. I have an $800 life roll. About to take a shot at building a roll - Shot at 1-2-2.

Goal to move to Vegas in Aug (Birthday present to myself)
Why Vegas Compared To Los Angeles?
Affordable rent compared to Los Angeles. Someday have a beach house in Santa Monica.

About Me - 25 Years Old (Birthday July 27)

Born & Raised in Bay Area (Cali)
Wanted a change of pace in life - Moved to LA randomly not knowing anybody on Jan 2014 - Feb 2015 lived in Los Angeles (Santa Monica & K-Town / With Girl Friend Met Her In LA)

March 2015 - May 2015 (Moved with best friend to Vegas - Broke up single)

Poker - Been into poker 16 years old. Had a fake ID played biggest games in the pay area at the time 5-5-10 went broke after a big streak. Then 2 years later I played a long stretch 300 hours at M8trix 2-3-5 made 7k in November 2013 but stopped playing. Lost Passion! I wanted girl friend etc wanted other experience. Now I have done all of that and like Phil Ivey want to dedicate everything I have to poker & getting the most value out of life! Have a different perspective of life after moving to Los Angeles and putting myself out there!

I would love all the support I can while I start my journey. I will share Hands as sharp as possible so we can improve our games together. I am not going to lie, it is obvious I need luck behind my back to build a sustainable bankroll. 4 Buy In shot! From writing this (lengthy) article will let you guys know that I am dead serious and I am ready for a journey of a lifetime.

Let The Journey Begin!

Don't want to rush to rush to the tables yet. Will start grinding from June 15th. Want to touch up on a couple books, and forums to give myself the best chance of winning.

Thanks for all the support guys! Talk soon!!

I don't feel like this is how you should start a poker career but regardless best of luck

Fayth I understand there is a slim chance of this shot sticking but I am considering opportunity cost (getting a job building up a roll instead of playing poker and developing my skill set through experience and debrief).

I will let you know my progress every step of the way. Thanks for the luck brotha.

Thanks guys for the support feels amazing
First of all. Instead of 1-2-2 No Limit. I am considering to play 3-6 Limit Poker. I have showed profits in 3-6 limit and I have 8 Buy Ins instead of 4

So many people have said 3-6 is not beatable because the rake is to high. Now with confidence I do not agree. Because so much money is in the pot 6 players per pot. That if you put your money in when you have the odds to call, you will win over the long run even with the rake in the equation.

With that being said. I am going to grind 3-6 limit until I get 2k then I might jump into 1-2-2nl or 8-16limit

I played a 3-6 session. Want to go over some hands to fix places I am spewing money.
Let me know what you guys think

1. 4 9 Suited. Diamonds. 5 players call. I'm SM ($1 Post) I decided to complete the bet ($3) then bb make it $6 everybody else call. I call.
Anything wrong?
I am thinking to loose and fold suited rags when small blind even with odds like that hoping for flush or flush draw flop.

2. 10-10 5thposition. UTG+1 limp , I make it $6. Cutoff Call, Button Call, Big Blind Call, UTG+1 call.

I think me raising to $6 is the right play instead of limping. Maybe limping still profitable but decreases variance?

3. K 6 Off BB - 6 Players I check, flop K55 (2 spades) SB check, i bet $3 everybody fold button call. 10 spades turn. I bet 6$ button call. river 4hearts. I check he bet $6 I fold. Was leading the flop right? Thinking of check folding that next time because not sure if I am good there most of the time.

Overall Session was good. Little profit with tons of room for improvement. Thanks guys!

First of all good luck!!!

That being said, playing for a living is the hardest work you will ever do. I have a real job, but I have played a combo of online and live for the past 9 years as a means to subsidize income. Couple bits of advice I would give you.

1. Your starting roll is not enough unless you have what I would call "Life Outs".....parents, friends, someone you can reach out to if you go bust for help. FWIW, you will meet other prof players along the way that I promise you you will help and they will help you in the future.

2. I wouldnt start the journey until you have enough to live 3 months off of (non bankroll money)

3. 3-6 limit is not beatable over time. The rake will kill you. In the short run, 1 or 2 sessions a week yes it's beatable but over time (ie 40+ hours a week) over a 6 month+ stretch even with optimal variance you will struggle to make much profit.

4. Learn mixed games....Especially Omaha if your going to vegas. These games in the lower stakes (ring game) can be beat even with the rake.

Gl man

What up man -

I'm from the bay area too. I also play locally at the bay 101 usually 1/2/2 - 2/3/5.
My plans are similar to yours. I plan on taking a 3 month shot at vegas with probably 10x your bankroll. I'll be getting coaching by a las vegas grinder, and hopefully everything works out.

I'll be looking for a room-mate come August or so.

Feel free to PM me. if you're interested!

3/6 limit is probably "beatable" as in > than $0/hr but not for minimum wage. I would stick to NL, try to find some home games that you can play for lower stakes and rake free. Also the Oaks I believe has a 1/2 nl that is a bit smaller than the 1/2/2 at Bay 101.

I respect your ambition I've grinded my way up from the bottom a few times. Play well!

Bay 101 1-2-2 NLH

Hero: UTG +1 ? Limp (Stack Size $200)
Villain 1 UTG +2 Limp (Stack Size $100)
Villain 2 UTG +3 Raise 12 (Stack Size $600)
Villain 3 Button Call (Stack Size $100)
SB Fold
Big Blind Fold

Hero Call
Villain 1 Call
Villain 2 Call

Flop A 4 8 Rainbow

Hero Check
Villian 1 Check
Villian 2 Bet $25
Villian 3 Fold

Hero Raise to $75
Villian 1 Fold
Villian 2 Fold

Hero has AJ off. Question is this. Would you guys fold AJ off UTG +1 or any early position. Or Raise if you guys think AJ has value please justify. Or is limping okay.

My thoughts & strategy. Reason why I limp occasionally early with hands like that, is because I don't want to bloat, these guys are way to open after the flop and I will just capitalize on the strength of my hand once I see the flop and get all value that was lost preflop because I have a good chance of getting stack in good with less cards to come to win the pot for max value...

Anyways let me know your thoughts, most optimal play etc. Thanks Again as always!

GL -

Hand Above - Raise or Fold Pre ... and pretty much always raising.

OTF as played, raising does not do anything but light $ on fire.

Honestly brother, I don't think OPEN limping is OK for any two cards.
But I can see an argument for limping behind with suited connectors or low PP

As far as it being an open it depends on the table type.
- if the table is aggressive i would consider folding, depending on my mood, stack size, etc.
- if the table is full of maniacs I would also open, hoping for someone to call with ace rag
- against a table of nits, I would still open. Just be careful when facing a 3B.

Also, I replied to your PM.
Hope to hear from you soon.

a) $20 an hour rake at $3/6 isn't beatable for more than $5-10 an hour if you're world class.

b) Between the TT limp and the K6 river check fold, you are not very good at limit hold 'em. That will come across kind of dickish, but you need to hear it.
