My goal is to have $150,000 dollars within 3 years from poker, right now i have a **** job making $2500 per month, expenses around $1200/month
how much money would one recommend I set aside for funding a bankroll, what is the standard amount,i want to save the maximum per month but I get defeated by the thought that my game is regressing from me not putting in enough hours also i blow my money away on dumb ****, fast food, weed, etc.
To start out i was thinking of depositing $1000 every month into my bankroll is this excessive??? I want to have 100BI/300 bets for each stake i reach,,, But for the time being i have a job so should i focus on playing higher with less buyins, or stick to 100bi I want to play .25-.50/---- .50/1.... Also what is the best way for me to maximize the amount of money i can put into my bankroll per month.........

Hi Dr.Gonzo. Are you a winning player already? What stakes do you currently play? I can't imagine pouring $1000 a month into a bankroll would be much use without proof you an beat those kind of stakes over a considerable sample.

If you have a full time job why not deposit $500 and start grinding 25NL and see how it goes? You will be working with 20 buy ins and will get a much better idea of how you may do.

I have a full time job and make decent money, but not going to deposit a lot of money until I really improve my game and can show I can beat 5NL & 10NL over a large sample.

honestly this will be the first time I'm looking to put in a large sample I'm only at 30 000 hands lifetime a mix of small deposits here and there' no I'm not a winning player I usually go bust after 1 bad run due to poor brm I lose and get my confidence eroded then I will uninstall and won't pay for a while I want to play a stake where the poker is more serious I hear people say they can't beat smaller stakes I don't believe that to be true but I feel micro stakes cause bad habits to develop in my game I at least want to play at a stake where the money on the line has some consequences to the players, or I gain more by being patient and waiting for mistakes I'm tired of micro games where some on sits down with $2 and plays like a nut I feel I'm not improving my game or on my way to becoming a winning player, I rather risk playing a little
Higher than feel like I'm playing with play money idk I can't be the only one feeling this way, any advice

Dr. Gonzo thanks for the reply.

In fairness it sounds like this is a terrible idea. You need to visit the strategy forums more, you need to develop your game more. There is a common misconception that if you move up in stakes people will "respect your raises" etc. This is not true. If you cannot beat micro stakes over a 30k hand sample you will not beat any stakes higher and will drain money. You need to deposit $150 and start at 5NL again.

You need to study more, post a lot of hands in the forums people will try and help you out and the more you discuss different spots with different players the better you will become. Try and find 2 or 3 people at your limit that you can sweat sessions with, discuss hands live etc. This will be much more +EV for your entire game.

It seems like you will also have tilt issues as you said you will lose your initial deposit and then uninstall the software and just stop playing. This won't help you get better. If you were to spend any amount of money I would buy some poker books and also maybe look at getting some coaching (if you have money to burn).

If you were playing for much larger sums of money than what you are used to at the micro stakes I can imagine you will be playing scared and will not be playing optimally. Also if you lose a couple of flips and lose a few buy ins I would imagine it would really affect you.

I hope you take this advice and good luck on the felt.

Sounds like a horrendous idea start at 10nl deposit 250 if you grind up to 25bi at 25nl move up and then target 50nl... It seems you have a lot of learning to do and the best place to do that is the micros

Yeah I agree with your response I definitely have tilt issues I was playing 1_2 live for a while and my leaks murdered me the reason my focal point was bankroll funding is what ultimate broke me was having only a few buy-ins one bad run would finish me, but I will hit the strategy forum more and post there more often

Play 100k hands at 10nl and see how you are doing. Playing 50nl will only cause burning your money quicker. Its better to find out that you are a losing player while playing 10nl rather than 50nl
