End of week results, up like $200 bumhunting on Global though

$1000 to $100 challenge going swimmingly. Decided to hide site balance so I don't have to look at 3 figures.

Just booted up Ignition and now the bet slider is only going in .2BB increments so I can't do 2.5bb open easily again.

Huge bad beat: I won 4 buyins in 10 minutes only to figure out said issue was because I was playing 5nl on accident. FML. Maybe the skill difference is pretty big I was attributing the plays to it being midnight on a Saturday.

Thanks to everyone who comments, not really any interesting hands today so I'll posit that I could be 4b bluffing a lot more (my current 4b range stat is 3.1). I think I'll get close to enough folds against most regs and then postflop on any A or K they're going to fold a ton. 5b bluffs as well, I think especially with a <2x sizing they'll just put you on AA which they're right to do but they still might call with JJ and fold 90% of flops to 1/2 pot.

Overall been studying a ton, found a nice site workflowy.com for taking notes. Basically just nested bullet points.

$1k month is looking unlikely but I'm somehow up a good amount. Played at most 2k hands of NL50 reg tables and up >1000bb

Probably a good idea to have BRM plan, made a few deposits in the past because the NL5 -> NL25 jump is ridiculous to grind out but now any substantial winning sample will have enough profit to move up.

Plan is:
  • Never deposit unless transferring between sites
  • Move up with 40BI and 5bb/100 post-RB over latest 50k hands
  • Move down below 30BI
  • zoom 1 level below
  • can play 1 level above in super good tables

So currently at 50nl/25z, moving down to 25nl/10z at $1500, up to 100nl/50z at $4000

BR: $2200
$850 deposits
+$1350 YTD

Any good way to track hand counts on Global or should I just use session length * table count?

There's an achievement in Global that shows how many hands you played. Just subtract the difference from before and after your session for your hand count. You can also use an estimate like you suggested (session length * table count * hands/hour).

BR at $2400, $1k month maybe doable

Haven't played on Chico since my last update and probably will withdraw from there. I won like 40 BI at 10z there variance free but 25z is a bunch of RB grinders and even though they seem pretty bad (how do you have low PFR and 80% fold to 3b over 5k hands), either my edge was a lot less than I thought or I went through a bottom 1-5% deathrun.

No zoom as well, going from 1k hands/hour to 250-300 has me bored at times. Having several fish on most tables makes it a lot easier to keep playing though.

Still been studying a ton, reviewing every pot above 6bb and doing a lot of drills. Switched to the 500nl rake sims because that's where I'd like to be playing, and the GTO 3bet size even though I very rarely face it. Noticed I'm pretty bad at turn barreling, and making some big EV mistakes from low SPR bets/raises with draws that hate having to fold to the jam

Generally sucking at 3bps, there's weird spots like just now BTN vs SB with A:heart:5:heart: on Q:spade:7:heart:5:diamond: I call a 33% CB, turn 7:diamond:, SB bets 75%, I fold for a 7bb(!) mistake. SB doesn't have 55 to block and we fold TdTx.

Almost the exact same spot happened but 8:diamond:7:diamond: on Q:spade:7:heart:2:diamond:6:club: called down but maybe I would've folded had I not taken a note about the above spot. Makes me think I should write down everything that surprises me.

Don't have much to do tomorrow so goal is 1000 quality hands at 50nl

A couple hands:
Vs reg. Usually I just go for the shoves but here his x looked pretty weak and I wanted him to maybe hero Kx or slight chance of trying to rep AK. Probably still bad, not like I can fold to save money against AK.

When I see microstakes players say this it is usually because they are using PT4 HUD and the incorrect stat, "Fold to PF 3B" instead of the correct one, "Fold to PF 3B after PFR".

IDK if you're using PT4 or using the wrong stat, but it's something to double check.

Yeah that PT4 stat is dumb, this was drivehud2 though and most players were at 50-70%.

Pool stats:

Clearly VPIP, PFR, 3b are messed up by zoom hud catching, likely by a factor of 1.5-1.6. Fold to 3b is definitely accurate though I was 3betting him pretty wide and they kept getting through.
He must have been folding 88, AJs, AQo

Played 2.5k hands today on Global, up 6 buyins all 50nl

Somehow I'm only at 10k hands there which means I've won at >20bb/100, so true WR is likely positive

Study wise still sucking at 3bps, mostly drilling but I'm planning to just look at spots tomorrow. I keep running into hands where I think I'm definitely right or close and it'll be a huge mistake

BR $2800 (-$40, 2k hands)

Played some NL50 HU vs a maniac tag (notes said huge triple donk bluff, 3x pot river A high, insane bluff etc in 6max) Maybe 10 hands in I accidentally open to 2bb instead of 3 and he 3bets massive (20bb?) I snap fold. Next time I get air I open to 2bb on purpose and he does it again. Few hands later I have 99 and 2x, same thing and obviously I do a fake tilt 4b (didn't shove since we were 150bb deep and I think he'll bluff jam a lot) he does shove and shows AA. Table fills shortly after.

Later I spot him, a fish, and a spewy fish at NL100 later, I get the jesus seat and everyone plays solid for an hour. Both the fish had limps at NL50 but not at 100, and the maniac had some very aggro plays but they made sense. NL100 games generally seem really bad, almost entirely different regs from NL50 and more of them per table.

Biggest Ls:

What I get for trying to go way too thin vs a rec. I think there's enough crazy spew/merging in this line that I can call the min raise

He does the same exact thing with K2o maybe 20 hands later. 865r flop x around he pots the turned K I fold JJ because it was multiway. Probably should've 5b pre

Aaand he busts to the other fish who started with 50bb and now has 680bb (aaaand just left)

He rebought, stacks me A5o>QQ pre, then a few hands later he 3b to 9bb, reg shoves for 100bb he calls off with Q2s, wins vs AK

He disappears after this hand, almost felt bad for him

December
Got a fun letter from the IRS today that said I owe them mid 5-figures. I didn't lie on my taxes so hopefully I just send in the paperwork and they say it's fine, but I'm a bit paranoid they won't accept certain documentation or that I messed up somewhere. I didn't bother with mileage/home office deductions so I might try to turn this into a positive and amend my taxes so that the IRS is the one sending money.

Even with getting audited I think 30k hands is doable at regular tables, maybe 40k if I go up to 6 tables

Profit goal is questionable considering volume, but if I make $750 (6bb/100) I'd move up to 100nl for 2024

AQo I 4b OOP flop A62r I b25, b50 K turn, shove T river they show ATo
I 3b 65s vs SB they min 4b I call. flop 642 I check. turn 6 I raise. River 8 easy shove nice QQ+ bud they have 88
maniac I sat down for calls my 3b and donk triple barrel shoves like he has 3 times with absurd hands. Runout J6478 easy call with 99 they show 86s
top it off with 99>AKo all in pre, flop a K they runner runner a flush

Did make maybe a horrible fold BVB SRP, x/r QJ2r flop, b75 A turn, xf river to 2x pot shove. Couldn't think of that many bluffs but 16 combos of KT and they might only use 75-100% for bluffs. Didn't want to level myself into thinking the 100nl regs are just so much better/aggressive. Checked wizard and somehow call is 0ev for 50nl small 3b sim. River x is used but that seems dumb as well.

Seems fine GTO seems to like small/med on flush completing turns. I think I'll still do it with value/bluffs though, probably better for value at least.

Another 2k hands on global, pretty much +400bb at 50nl and -200bb at 100nl hopefully that doesn't become a recurring theme

Tax stuff mostly done managed to not procrastinate on that

BB vs SB and BB vs BTN are way more polar than in 50nl so I think I'll tackle that as BB since the calling range should be close enough. I'm still messing up preflop as BB (especially vs BTN) partly because I'm not using a randomizer so I'll probably add that for preflop (flop XR?) and do 1k hands BB vs steal in trainer, I don't know if that's the most effective method but it's easy. Playing the polar range well hopefully adds a decent edge since I'm butchering it currently

After that BTN vs CO 3bp and BB vs SB SRP (as BB since I play SB with range x flop)

I think you have a solid approach to the game for having only played inside of 6 months, definitely interested to see where you go

Are you insteady on global? If so, you're clearly much better than I had gotten an impression of previously when we had played together. Hope you didn't take my trash talking too personally, I am admittedly quite a mental game fish, which I have been consciously working on a lot these past several months. Therapy in particular is great for correcting leaks with regard to both mindset and interpersonal interaction

Either way, you're clearly a dedicated and driven person, and I personally anticipate you doing well in poker. Best of luck OP

Thank you! Messaged you my SN I'm not insteady

Global is feeling kinda nitty, like this probably wouldn't work. Maybe just variance with them having it vs bluff catchers or having air vs my value

I haven't played 50nl on Global, but at 200-500, the regs are super nitty, for the most part. The good news is that there are plenty of fish. I recommend really looking at showdowns to get an idea of range construction (reg checks a slam dunk bluff or turns SDV into a bluff) to get an idea of who the player is and make a note. I just assume any reg is a nit until proven otherwise. Vs the fish, bluffcatch like a mad man. GL.
