Considering Dedicating the Summer to Poker Considering Dedicating the Summer to Poker

Hey everyone. I am a freshman in college with the semester rapidly coming to a close. I have been a losing online player and a slightly winning live player over a small sample for about 2 years now. I have recently started taking online poker seriously and in about 80k hands playing 5nl and 10nl, I have amassed a $300 bankroll. In the past, I have never really "grinded" online and one way or another I would end up playing 100nl HU or the $100 HU Super Turbos or something like that.

This upcoming summer is most likely my last carefree summer that I will have for a long time. Next summer I will be getting an economics internship (whatever the hell that means) and I will basically be moving on and preparing for the real world.

I am comfortably rolled for 200nl live and certainly have the ability to take some shots at 500nl live if I so desire. My parents support me financially in every way except poker, so I really have no obligations at all. You might say that it is silly for me to be playing the micros when I have such a large bankroll, but I still am not sure if I am ready to trust myself with a couple thousand online. The 5/10 tables are always there, calling, waiting. In addition, 25nl can be more difficult to beat than 1/2 live and I am realistic enough to know that I cannot beat low stakes at this point. I also would not be comfortable seeing my bankroll down two or three hundred dollars after a bad session. If I do choose to embark on this, I will probably deposit a couple hundred more and work with that.

I have been able to avoid tilting because I feel as though I am starting to understand variance and swings as well as recognizing when I am not necessarily playing my best poker. I invested in Poker Tracker and Table Ninja and while I am not spending as much time as some players on reviewing their sessions, I am certainly taking my poker more seriously than I ever have in the past.

I think that if there was ever a time for me to give poker a shot and see where it takes me, now is the time. I have the month of April and the beginning of May to finish up freshman year, and then I have three months of freedom. I still am not sure if I am going to commit myself to this, but I think putting this all down in writing and opening myself up to suggestions is the best way to go about this.

I welcome any questions, comments or suggestions.
