2020 was going to be my year to travel and see the all the great art of the world. Corona virus had other plans for me it seems.
I've been playing poker for years as a fun player. I can beat up to 25nl but then I've net lost it all on 50-100nl, and the great game of Pot-Limit Triple Draw.
For the rest of this year I've set myself a goal to reach 200nl by grinding and moving up the stakes.
I deposited $200ish on PartPoker and have since grew it to $800 through Zoom 25nl and 50nl. I'm doing a fairly aggressive bankroll management. I'll move up to 100nl zoom when I make $1500 and similarly I'll go to 200nl at 15BIs.
I'll also be playing my big bet 27 draw games and tournaments and short deck but I'll play those on stars to segregate the BR.
Been losing pretty hard on 50nl but in the last few days have been slowly winning it back.
Got myself PIOsolver and am now studying and coming up with a strategy. Decided to focus on 50BB as I feel most people either are used to 100bb strategy or have studied a 100bb GTO spot and are not used to short stack ranges and strats.
Player1 (SB) shows 8 8 (three of a kind, Eights) (Equity - Pre-Flop: 53%, Flop: 83%, Turn: 91%, River: 100%)
Hero (UTG) shows J A (a pair of Aces) (Equity - Pre-Flop: 47%, Flop: 17%, Turn: 9%, River: 0%)
Player1 (SB) wins $117.72
I like the check but the turn pot bet was greedy. I should have bet half pot here as he can still have 2pair, sets and a straight. With the straight blocker+draw I go for the big bet. After the raise the call seems standard. Versus river shove in the moment I think I have the nut straight blocker and no spades so I call.
He should have all the sets and nut straight for value and bluff with a J for the nut straight blocker. Having a J only reduces his combos from 4 to 3 but also reduces his bluff combos. A set blocker reduces them from 3 to 1 and doesn't reduce his bluffs. So in these spots 2pair is the best calling hand. Seems obvious now but sure we all have to learn it at some point.
