I placed second in a no limit holdem freeroll this morning, which paid exactly 1 chip. I took that chip to the 1c/2c no limit holdem cash table. The game was playing heads up, so I joined in to make it 3 handed. I folded the flop in the first hand and then this happened:
button raises 3x, I pot it with K8s, big blind folds, button calls.
872r
I shove a bit more than pot, button calls.
I forget what fell, but it missed the buttons J9s and I scooped.
----
a few hands later:
button raises 3x, I pot it with 77, big blind folds, button calls.
8
5
2
I don't have a heart.
I check, he bets 1/2 pot, I call.
Jo
I check, he bets 1/2 pot, I call.
Qo
I check, he shoves ~pot, I call. He shows 44 no heart. I scoop.
----
Then a guy joined the game to make it 4 handed. He started it off by open shoving 100 big blinds preflop and I started to salivate at the though of winning his imaginary invisible pretend pennies. He took down that first pot uncontested. The second hand he saw was in the big blind. He called a raise preflop and open shoved ~17 pots on the flop to take it down. Then he did the same thing on the flop two more hands in a row, winning both uncontested. Then this happened:
I open 3x with A8s on the button, small blind folds, he 3 bets pot in the big blind, I call.
235r
He shoves, I call.
7o
Ko
He has 87o and scoops.
----
a few hands later and I was back down to ~2.50:
folds to me in the small blind, I limp 42o, he checks.
KK2r
I check, he bets 1/2 pot, I call.
7o
I check, he bets ~1/2 my stack, I call.
Ao
I check, he bets enough to cover me, I call. He has K6o and scoops.
Now of course in a vacuum I should fold preflop and on the turn, but I though that his previous actions combined with the lack of a preflop raise, which takes lots of Kings out of his range, made calling preflop and on the turn ok. Looking back I'd definitely fold the turn if I could do it over again, but hindsight is always 20/20. Shrug.
Flame away.
