Hey,

Ive had 2 previous threads in the past, and hit the goals of both, so lets hope this one can follow suit

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17...-nlhu-1258157/

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17...ax-nl-1367614/

I'm Ross, 26yr old Northern Irishman, Poker has been my main source of income for ~4 years.

Ive spent the majority of my career travelling, poker was always seen as an opportunity for me to see the world, and up until February, I was fulfilling that dream.

I had grown lazy with poker, hadnt reviewed a HH, worked with any software, or even discussed strat in >a year, but was earning a reasonable wage bumhunting hard, which requires more work and discipline than you would think

Amaya pulled my pants right down by removing the HUNL tabs, and pumping the rake to kill any hope of grinding the SS zoom pool.

This leaves me essentially jobless, but hungry to continue living the life I live.

Plans for the year where originally to travel the Americas, but due to the changes, I decided it was safer to scrap that, go somewhere were cost of living is low, and save the South american dream for a time where I am more financially stable.

This being said, I haven't squandered my winnings from poker, I have >a years worth of savings(In the scenario were my income is $0), so I have plenty of time to try to acquire a new skill set, aswell as time to pick up a new vocation. My goal In this regard is to pick up a freelance skill, to essentially keep the nomad dream alive, I don't think I'm ready to answer to a boss just yet, and not sure I ever will be..

So I find myself back in Thailand, I'm not exactly busto living just yet, got myself a pretty nice apartment, and I still find the time to get on the beers ~twice a week.

View from the pool:

Goals for this thread? I have a 6 month lease on this place, by the time that ends I hope to be a proven winner at MTTs and be well on my way to earning money from my chosen vocation.

I will be playing $10-50 MTTs, with the occasionally higher(bigger 109, SM, etc), and have a coach/backer who is extremely capable. Will be posting HH's as a method for review, and to spur me on when I have to post losing graphs

Ill also be posting some of my chosen avenues for learning, to hopefully get some feedback, if you wade through the **** enough, sometimes 2+2 can be pretty helpful

Coupled with some pics of the lighter side of Thailand, ill also include some degen pics, perhaps it'll make the thread more enjoyable for me and the occasional passer by, aswell as some reminiscing when I'm old, boring, and busto

Graph for 2016(played ~10k hands since feb 14th ,+~5k from other sites not tracked for my ego's sake)

Forgot to add, another goal will be to deadlift 400lbs by challenge end(current lift 325), will probably post some things I find interesting in that regard, and hopefully the 400 lift to finish#lightweight

The linkage btwn skill and profit is much weaker in MTTs and they don't offer the same mental stimulation or schedule advantages of HUNL, but you will def crush them once you make the required adjustments, gl.

My gym in Thai isnt exactly GTO, so dont think id be able to do crossfit even if I wanted to, but nah its mainly just strength training at the moment.

Thanks

Cheers, Ive withdrew 90% of my stars roll so not sure id be able to put in decent volume even if I wanted to, 500 zoom has had some pretty tasty pools recently, perhaps some weak regs have decided that 200 zoom is gona be tough to beat after rake, so yolo 500 zoom it is, obviously that will be pretty short lived though, id be surprised if I play >10k HU hands on stars in the next 3 months.

Was really just weighing up the options of what I have with each variant:

6max cash: Im definitely not good enough at this format to beat say 100nlzoom, and I dont have good learning resources in this regard(none of my poker friends play 6max cash). I've always found its much easier to learn by imitation . I did briefly table start at 100nl reg tabs and was pleasantly surprised at how mediocre some of the other regs were(6 max regs have a rep for being incredibly solid, even as low as 100nl, unless this is some sort of myth us non-6max regs have ?), but with seating scripts and an unpredictable environment(removal of reg tabs >10% likely imo, or another rake hike), it didnt seem like the necessary work would be worth it.

PLO: Not even once, super high rake, im clueless about so many aspects of the game, competition getting more fierce, and have no idea how id even go about getting better, besides doing noob things like watching videos.

MTT: Seems a fairly standard viewpoint that they are the softest game around in 2016, I have a backer and friend who is a mid-high stakes regular who will be actively coaching me, reasonable longevity(I hope).

Spins: Don't think id respect myself in the morning, would be like kissing the feet of the king after he sent you to the stocks.

Yea, one of my favourite things about HUNL is the ability to put in 2-5 hour sessions on the fly, and the ability to just say 'fk this, im going to the pub', if things arnt going my way, kinda annoying to have to set out 8+ hours of the day and thanks man

Cut the session short, cause after this sort of pounding I thought it was best to review, seek help, not die, etc.

Joined teamtreehouse.com, and ill be working on that for ~10 hours a week, think if nothing else itll be some potentially helpful knowledge in the future. Its $25/month, so if anyone knows any better options please let me know

Running back and forth with the idea of learning to fish aswell, by this I mean spearfishing, macho, gun in hand, diving into the sea and shooting fish type. My only problem is I dont really like the idea of killing fish lol, atm I go snorkelling fairly often, and really enjoy it, and the idea of going into an area like that to kill is kinda off putting(no h0mo), but the thought of having the story of 'I wasnt making money in online poker anymore, so I bought a speargun and went and caught my own meals for awhile' seems kinda cool

This is the spot where I snorkell atm:

Despite being sick managed to hit the following strength goals:

      -325lb dead(5)
      -138lb overhead press(5x5)
      -193lb bench(5x5)

      Bodyweight: 174lbs
Height: 5ft 9ins(still working on this)

How much are you paying for the apartment? Was it fairly easy to sort out and get set up? Can we get more photos if possible?

Sorry for the noob question but looking to do something similar myself in a few months.

Hope this isnt too late , im paying 15000bht/month($423), really easy to sort out, if youre driving about youll see tons of signs for rooms available, especially this time of year(low season), can get a decent room for as cheap as $5kbht, just make sure you get anything via online, pretty much always a rip off.

      Thanks

Cheers for the interest, sparked me to fire up another post.

Over a month since the last update, mainly cause I didn't have much to update with, I tweaked my back squatting, nothing serious but required a week off the gym, took this as a good time to go on a degen trip, and yolo'd a flight to bkk. Spent about a week there, and moved on down to Pattaya, it really has to be the seediest place on earth, im prone to a good degen, but it even had me shaking my head after a few days.

      Bkk:

My visa expired following this, and decided to budget and go busto option, the 13 hour bus journey to Penang, Malaysia, had some interesting characters on my bus, and Penang itself has some interesting aspects, with some great street art, so wasnt a terrible experience.

      Penang:

Due to this I hadnt been grinding too much, lost a chunk to a whale aswell to record my second losing month as a professional(although we'll use that term loosely now).

Getting back on the saddle, been training real hard, got my deadlift to 160kg, and believe ill have the 180 in a matter of weeks.

Upped my MTT volume from 30/week to 50, still laughable by most MTT pro stds Results have not been good. Feel as though im getting better daily though.

Putting in ~15hours/week regarding the web design, its abit of a chore, but such is life.

Really wanna go to South America once this challenge is over, if finding work online doesnt materialize ill likely never have the ability to just yolo a flight somewhere and spend a long time period exploring the area and experiencing the culture. Would be a real shame grinding that 9-5 life sitting in wonder of what it must be like.

      A man can dream
