32 y/o Irish male. Former pro poker player. Now reside in NYC with 'real life' job. Taking a break from that grind to return to the felt after an almost 5 year hiatus(Have been keeping up in the online world getting in some study and play there). Going to be alone so gonna focus on grinding a lot of hours, hitting the gym and eating healthy. My wife will be staying in NYC. She isn't over the moon with me just heading away to Vegas for a month alone. But I just need a break form NYC it's sucking the soul out of me rn.
Flying out of JFK tomorrow at 8am and set to land at 10:29am Vegas time. Will then head to the excalibur where I will stay thru friday night and check out Saturday August 6th(got comped monday thru thursday. Friday was 90ish usd. Total inc taxes and fees for 5 nights was $147 which is great). Been looking on 2+2 for a room in an apt but no joy as of yet. Will feel out as many poker players as possible once I hit Vegas and hope something pops up for the rest of the month. If not, will likely book an airbnb.
GOALS:
1. Play 300 hours of live poker. Will most likely play 1/3-2/5 NLHE and PLO. Will dabble in 5/10 if there is a very good looking game. Beating PLO 100 online in US games so confident I should do fine at these stakes live. 300 hours sounds crazy but I used to put in some sick volume when I played as a pro. Tentatively aiming for 2x 6 hours sessions with one day off per week. So 25 days x12 hours per day=300 hours.
2. Workout at least 20 times. If airbnb/apt doesnt have a fitness center or pool, then I will count a 5km run as 1 workout.
3. Study poker at least 2 hours per day(can do this while also playing at the table). I like Jnandez' mastermind for PLO and Runitonce for holdem.
4. Eat at least 3 pieces of fruit per day with some almonds. Take it easy on the fried, crappy foods. I love it but it's terrible for the body. If i'm going to play for 300 hours in August, proper nutrition is going to be key. I'll give myself a rating A-F on this one daily.
I will update this thread daily to keep myself accountable. Will post some of the more interesting hands also.
If anyone would like to grab a drink or meal someday, feel free to hmu as I will literally be doing nothing other than playing poker.
Thanks bacon and Bob. Checked into hotel and walking down the strip now. Deciding between the bellagio/aria to kick things off. Won't go crazy with the volume today as I haven't played a live session in a few months and I'm tired after the flight. Will likely play just one session today, get some good sleep and then hit the pool in the morning. After that it's full steam ahead.
Didn't bother with runitonce. I instead subscribed to the upswing poker lab fir a month for 74$( 99-25 promo code).
Time to get my feet wet! Will post updates after session
Decided with Aria. Bought in for 300 at a new 1-3 table. Bleed about 70 bucks in the first hour raising, c betting and then getting raised. Anyways first big hand :
Super loose action player limp mp
Tight Co makes it 15
I call (?) btn 79cc
Bb fish calls
Limper calls
Flop (75) : 5c6cTd
Bb leads 20, mp call, Co makes it 100 and covers me. I have 226. What's my play?
Good luck, I actually ended up googling how many hours were in a month. Looks like you'd be playing poker for ~38.46% of the entire month....when would you sleep? LOL
300 hrs is biting off a lot. Even 200 in a month is tough. Props for the attempt.
PF call on btn is marginal. I think we can flat flop, allowing the others a chance to come along juicing up the pot. Shoving seems OK too but I doubt we have any fold equity.

Kinda hard to get excited about what may easily be a four-outer. Plus, while you may have a titillating draw, right now, you have zippo.
The preflop call reeks, and this is precisely why it does. The best flop you could hope for was a decent draw to the non-nuts. You got that, and you're still in an untenable position.
