Goal update for February:

[ ] 600 HUSNGs

I'll be pretty busy with work unfortunately so this could be lofty, or maybe it won't be, I'm honestly not sure. This will be my first month dedicated to HUSNG as I spent the first half of January playing the PS MTTs.

I do enjoy the auto-pilot nature of the push-bot game, but the actual poker playing involved in HUSNGs is pretty exhilarating as well.

I'll be tracking my play just with HEM, so far this month (according to HEM, which I don't think is tracking the dates of my games played accurately):

30 games played, Avg BI $2.05, ROI 4.3%, $2.65 earned

I ran into a donk today that took about 4 BI's from me by running like Jesus. Thankfully I don't tilt terribly easily and kept my cool, won 3 of the BI's back before he quit me after saying that I was the devil (for getting my money in ahead and holding mind you).

I must say i really enjoy the HUSNGs so far, much more so than the MTTSNGs. This is primarily due to the fact that I can fit them in here and there when I don't have time for a full session (as I wrote earlier). It really is allowing me to get more volume in even though I only 1 table them instead of 30 tabling MTTs. I also hope to be able to move up the stakes faster given the MUCH more aggressive BRM I will be using (25-30 BI req's to move up). Hoping to be at the $5s this weekend.

thanks josh! best of luck to you as well.

put in a short session before work, went 5-1. basically had some really nice run good against an opponent. he was the style of opponent I really like playing regardless so when he started to tilt I talked him down a bit so he wouldn't quit me . turned out being a pretty nice guy.

i'm a donk and didn't realize that the next jump up in *turbo* stakes is to the $6 games so will stay at the $2 a bit longer, but still hope to be shot taking by this weekend (if the stretch of my last 15 games keeps up that won't be a problem )

i'll post an updated graph after tonight's session.

FT BR $121.16 (started with $100)

Wish you the best. Seriously though if $100k is the goal you need to kick up the volume a ton. Did you do any type of calculations to see how many games you would have to play at a certain ROI, for example?

Thanks for the support. And no I didn't get into any precise calculations. Honestly it's just a goal, reasonable or not. The point is definitely to play as much as possible.

My personal goal is the $50K, which is still very lofty though quite doable in HUSNGs with volume and some run good (mainly due to the ability to aggressively move up stakes - much more so than mass tabling MTTs). With my brother being taken out of commission for potentially the first 4 months of the year after only playing for 2 weeks it is extremely unlikely he will meet his $50K goal.

No worries though, the point is to grind, and that's my intention. I'll be tracking my progress here and on in even more detail in my blog (link in my profile).

BR: 133.41

Also, kind of made one of my goals... a wheel flush! (on the last game of the night). I say kind of because it was a tad stronger than a wheel flush but i'll count it

...oh... and before you say spew to raising 34s pre... villian was only calling 30% of hands OOP over a decent amount of hands and was playing fit or fold on flop, so I was raising any 2...

quick update, I didn't get too many games in last night as I was dead tired from staying up late grinding this week. Decided to only play a few games and then took the rest of the night off, watched a movie and then went to bed early and got a lot of sleep so I'll be ready to grind tonight.

Was largely a break even night and ended up down a couple BI's. It doesn't affect me in the slightest as overall I'm still extremely pleased with my results. I have a couple leaks I think I've identified and will be attempting to plug in my next session.

I think overall my biggest accomplishment this month so far (lol, it's the 4th...) is that I've been putting in decent volume. My goal is 600 games and that's taking into account solid sessions on the weekends where I'll have more time to grind. I wouldn't mind hitting 700 games obviously

I think tonight I may play a couple $5 reg speed games with the goal of boosting my roll a bit quicker to get into the $6 games. I doubt there's going to be too much difference between the two games other than perhaps taking a bit longer to complete, but my suspicion is that my hourly will increase in the $5 as compared to the $2.15 turbos given the higher buyin. Given the rake %'s I probably should have moved up to the $5's a few days ago. Additionally, I feel that ~25 BI's should be plenty. If I drop back down to $110-$115 I'll likely move back to the $2.15's to grind it back up.

OK, this post got a lot longer than originally intended. I'll update again tonight or tomorrow morning with results of tonight's session.

One thing about my volume goal for this month, so far I have been keeping pace while only single tabling. I feel that this is a huge victory for me and hope to be able to continue it.

Once I get more comfortably situated in the $6-11 games I may drop down a bit in BIs and get more comfortable 2 tabling, but feel that my growth as a player is really coming from the 1 tabling setup I have going now.

I think you guys are being pretty naive. Thinking that "hard work" will get you to $100K from $20? First problem, you guys have full-time jobs. Time is something you guys would need, like 80 hours a week a piece- you don't have that time.
And did you say that your brother was "dabbling" in poker like 9 months ago? Come on guys tell me you're joking. So you guys are pretty much noobs. I'm not against you, just being realistic.
First try $5K to $100K- that is DIFFICULT!

GL OP's Im doing something similar with my brother this year, we have a thread also, except we are in competition with each other rather than working together much more fun that way

anyway respect for grinding up from the micro's, takes a while but well worth it the experience imo

thanks, we tried the competitive thing at one point but would rather take the angle of working together instead of against each other.

at this point it's just me anyways since my brother doesn't have an internet connection.

brief update: I didn't quite get the volume in over the weekend that I had wanted and have felt like crap this week so my volume has been pretty low. That said it should be picking up again here shortly and I have already planned out some vacation days from work next week where I will be making up a lot of volume as well.

Another key factor with my volume is that on Friday of last week I started mixing in some reg speed games, including some of the $2.20s on Pokerstars. Pokerstars reg speed games feel like they take a year and a half, and they severely cripple the volume goal I set out for myself. That said, I'm staying focused while playing and play when I'm in the right frame of mind.

Here is my graph overall from this month (including Pokerstars games played). I'm still shot taking at the $5 reg speed games and will be moving up to the $6 turbos at $150 BR.

blog updated...

snippet:

"So I ended up going to Vegas this past weekend for a spontaneous / impromptu bachelor party for one of my best friends. It was a great time! I was hoping to get a few hands in at a $1/2 table but given the nature of the trip along with how short it had to be there just wasn't any time to hit the tables, which is fine.

I got notification last week that I was accepting in the HUSNG "Coaching Tree" this month. Basically it is a community-organized event that allows for free coaching from micro stakes to high stakes players. I've already spoke on Skype with my coach a bit and I will be recording some of my sessions and picking out some spots for him to watch and review and then for us to discuss together. I have high hopes that it will go well...."

these hands are by no means interesting...

Hand 1 - Quick example of flopping the titanic against a fish...

Grabbed by Holdem Manager
NL Holdem $50(BB) Replayer
Hero ($2,055)
($945)

Dealt to Hero K T

raises to $100, Hero calls $50

FLOP ($200) 9 A 8

Hero checks, bets $100, Hero raises to $200, raises to $300, Hero raises to $400, calls $100

TURN ($1,000) 9 A 8 5

Hero checks, checks

RIVER ($1,000) 9 A 8 5 6

Hero checks, bets $445 (AI), Hero calls $445

Hero shows K T
(Pre 49%, Flop 97.2%, Turn 100.0%)

shows 6 6
(Pre 51%, Flop 2.8%, Turn 0.0%)

Hero wins $1,890

I didn't bet the river as i feel like he finds the fold button a lot easier than the shove button if i check to him. I'm glad it worked out that way.
