Summary

I am starting a challenge to motivate me to get a lot of volume as well as earn a decent income from the modest start of $57USD + Rakeback. I will start today November, 20th and look to amass $20,000USD by January 20th.

My Background:

I would like to consider myself as a decent poker player who mainly plays cash games but enjoys to play the odd tourney here and there. I believe I have a strong edge in low to mid sized tourneys but due to the variance as well as the volume required I prefer to mainly stick to cash. I have been a winning regular on PartyPoker/Pokerstars cash games up to 200NL, with not too much volume at 500NL.

The Challenge:

I believe this goal is very challenging, but definitely possible. I decided to create a thread to hold myself accountable to grinding out the volume as well as hear feedback from other reputable players and also to maybe shine some light on the fact that poker is alive and well in 2020.

Apparatus:

There is no specific structure to this challenge meaning I can play any genre of poker from Cash Games to Tourneys and even Live if I so feel it (but I must use my bankroll created from online if so). The lions share of the challenge will consist of me slaving away at Cash Games on Partypoker. The field on party may be ever so slightly harder than many other sides, but I like the rakeback system and the fastforward is faster than other zooms on other sites, therefore I can get through more hands in a shorter period of time. I will use aggressive BRM in order to reach the goal, but will use good analysis of my edge vs. risk of going busto.

Moving up quickly mate

I won about 19BI's in 5NL aha, but now on to 10NL it's a different story, about even after 1.5 days of playing, but not putting in enough volume.

Yeah it was more of a shot, went table selecting late last night because there wasn't a large pool in 10NL zoom. Found a really lucrative table but ended up losing a couple stacks to a punter who took off, but regained those stacks while playing against a couple other punters aha. On the regular tables I feel I have a very large BB/100 especially when only single tabling. Although I am unsure if I am more profitable single tabling 25NL or 4Tabling 10NL. Will stick back to 10NL for now because the player pool is decent throughout the day.

Are you gonna continue to shot take with 13BI of the upper limit until nl200? That would be epic.

You should use at least 50bi brm

Hahaha I agree and tbf we will use 20BI's in general, but in the early stages need to pump in the shots until we're at stakes that can cause an actual dent in this challenge. But I've done that before at about 10-20BI's per stake, so we will see how it goes if I choose to be a bit more aggressive.

Yeah I believe one could get away with moving up at around 20BI's and dropping back down if losing 5-6 BI's in the new stake as an aggressive strategy. For the sake of the challenge I am going to be using an extremely aggressive strategy, but in general it is smart to practice proper BRM. If I was playing for money that mattered more I would definitely be doing the same. And to your second point, what is the affiliate program and how does it work?

Update

Not too much progress these last couple of days, other than some decent Rakeback. Going to continue taking shots at 25NL, focusing on volume and trying to get my points to 600 by the end of the week to get 30%/$180 in Rakeback.

Running pretty smoothly now, figured out the tendencies of the regs in this field and exploiting them accordingly (as well as the fish of course :P). Anyway, decent session here, we're sitting at about $580. Will try to get to 600 pts by Sunday which will grant me another $180 and by the looks of things we should be able to start shot taking in 50NL next week.

Update

Okay so we've hit the 1K mark today. Spent a bit under an hour taking a couple shots at 50NL FastForward and it's safe to say it was a good session. Going to move seamlessly to 50NL now with the intention of moving up to 100NL at about 2K or so. Decent progress and just 2 stakes away from 200NL, where we can crunch the bulk of this challenge! Haven't gotten around to streaming unfortunately but I hope I will have some time to do so on the weekend.
