Read through your interesting thread mate, good job so far and I definitely appreciate your honesty. It sounds to me you have the ability skills and smarts to succeed in your games so you need to believe in that and believe in yourself. If you're low in confidence then take a breather and go over some study to re affirm your game.

For what it's worth I have some connections to your staking/backing group and hope to be involved in the grind soon

Keep grinding hard!

Thanks everyone, reading these posts inspires me to play the extra 2-3 hours I need to every day

My Sunday (server Saturday night) grind was tough. Felt pretty good about my play 90% of the time even though there were more coolers than ever, or at least close to it. Flush over flush, fullhouse over nut straight on the river, every draw that craised vs my top pair or better hitting on turn, every hand that was chasing a river hitting etc. Ran into AA 4 times sb v bb 3h with Kx <12bb etc. I also made 1-1.5k cEV in bad river calls/bluffs etc but even those were in weird spots that were unfortunate to get into. Anyway, pleased with the results all things considered and am glad I can point directly to why I didn't print EV that day as well as some things to improve on. Also glad I managed to put in 150 games for the first time in ages, the trick is maintaining that pace.

Aiming for 150 games today and will take tomorrow off as a friend is coming to visit from Wollongong. Will play every day from Wednesday until I have 1500 games done and then will probably take a day off. Might go and play some live at the Star for a change of pace as well.

GL with your goals all, I hope you don't find it as difficult to stick to your process as I do

Having a really really tough time dealing with this bad run I'm having. More coolers than ever in my life, flush over flush, 2 card straight over 2 card straight, fullhouse over set, dozens of PP over PP etc. I've said this a lot but I think this is the worst run of my life.

I think it's getting to me for a few reasons
  • I feel like I've made huge improvements to my game and yet I have worse results than ever
  • Moving down to 30s was the first step back in my career so far and I want to prove myself
  • I just moved out and money is actually an issue now
  • Biggest downswing of my life in real $ and probably EV too

Doing a lot of work on my mental game so that I don't feel my accumulated tilt too bad. I often feel okay going into my sessions (which are too rare and too short) but quickly get mad, start saying 'of course' etc. The biggest help to me so far has been 'The Power of Now' by Eckhart Tolle. It's reminded me of and elaborated on a lot of things I came to know a few months ago and it's allowing me to feel confident and happy, at least when away from the table.

I'll probably play one or two live sessions next week as a change of pace which should be fun. Not rolled for 2/5 yet but I know a lot of people making a good living at it so I'm pretty interested.

Why you care about meaningless short term results and variance? Its obvious that you are really great player so sooner or later it is supposed to evens out.
BTW you jinxed me and i really went broke.
Looking forward to read more interviews.Maybe you should contact them again.

I really appreciate this message thank you. Not going to ask about doing another interview until I make 100s or really get on my feet and start coaching more actively or whatever but feel free to ask me any questions and I'll answer them here

I'm not as worried about the actual results as I am that my results are likely slipping due to unconscious factors like accumulated tilt, financial stress, moving down in stakes etc. I took a few days off to reflect on what I actually want to be doing with my life and let myself properly cool down from what is by far the biggest downing of my life. I spent some time considering alternate career paths and what I would do if I money wasn't an obstacle and came to the realisation that I mainly just want a competetive outlet or passion and it almost doesn't matter what it is.

I found myself playing Hearthstone for 12+ hours a day and I quickly got bored of it again. I missed poker on my second day off, my third day off is almost over and I'm watching coaching videos/reviewing hands and I've had a few eureka moments where I find myself thinking about certain concepts differently and really understanding some things I didn't realise I was unaware of. I won't be taking tomorrow off

For the last few days of this month I'm going to play as much as I can 2 tabling my A game and the rest of my time studying for a total of a 10 hour work day. Next month I'll re-evaluate but the goal will be high quality volume with a minimum of 2k games and lots of study. I'm going to focus on getting the EV I need to move up instead of making profit to clear makeup because I'm in a LOT of makeup for 30s but not a lot for 60s or 100s. If I can hit the EV/Volume goals that I want everything will fall in place. Method over results, actions over expectations, journey over the destination.

Still mostly studying, but I had a winning day! (2 hour session ). It feels like it's been forever, made some mistakes, got set up a couple times but had tons of fish spewing into me and tons of Ax and PP during push/fold, variance was definitely on my side.

Partying a bit tonight and taking tomorrow off to fix my sleep schedule a bit (been sleeping at 4am waking at 1, want to take that back a couple hours at least.

Goals next month:

Totally within my control

[ ]100+ games/day at least 20 days
[ ]30 hours of study

Mostly in my control, some good fortune needed

[ ]55cEV at 30s over 2k+ game sample, move to 60s

GL next month everyone

Good stuff mate, sounds like the run bads finally ended. I was on a downswing myself, stuck 70 buy ins under EV over 200 games. The variance is brutal but there is light at the end of the tunnel. In the end all that matters is you consistently make the good plays, chugging out that volume and you'll get that well earned money. It's all a mental game

Thanks. Honestly aside from the exact timing of it (me moving out and being short on cash) I'm glad for the experience. Done a lot of active work on my mental game and realising how much study I should be doing before I form bad habits. A lot of people run really hot at the beginning and end up quitting when it ends.

Another solid day. Gogogogogogogo. 100 a day minimum when playing.

Going to visit family this weekend so will be missing 2-3 days of the week, hopefully will get into 150 game/day pace to have a good volume month.

Moving is easily one of the most stressful things to do in life. You're literally moving your entire existence and by the sounds of it, may be costing you more too.

So naturally there is going to be stress there.

Having said that, doesn't really look like you've gone backwards, just break even, so if you're looking at the NOW, be happy you're making all of the right life choices and yeah you may have to live with being a break even player for a bit :P

It's all a process man. Chin up, keep smashing out that volume and study, this is just a bump in the road.

How far is the STAR Cas from you now?

Going strong! 50-100 games tomorrow, have an errand to run then catching train to see family in evening so will see what I can get done with 4-5 hours of play time. Then back Sunday evening and catching up on volume. Going to play most of the low BI SCOOPs as well if they fit in my timezone. Very excited for the HU event, played the $215 HU TCOOP and it was super soft so I can only imagine how these will be.

Sadly ~20cEV isn't exactly breakeven, especially when running bellow that. Feeling great about my game now but took a lot of work over the last month. If I can maintain anything close to these results I'll be in a great position by the end of the month Thanks for the message.

I'm like 40 mins of walking/trains/light rail from the casino now, will check it out again in a week or two.

Is it possible to get money graphs either from sharkscope or hem/ pt? For those of us that don't grind spins its impossible to convert chips to $ when looking at the graphs, and I don't think anyone got into poker for the cev. Its not you specifically but every single spins pg c just posts cev graphs

People don't post $ graphs for spins mainly because they're ridiculous and take massive samples to correlate with EV. Setting $ goals will kill you in this format and I honestly don't even think about cash on a given day. That said here's a lot of $ graphs. Sadly spinlyzer because PT4 is terrible at tracking EV and takes ages to load

GAMES SINCE BREAK (lolvolume)

ALL 30s

Spins are scary. Stay in school kids. That is indeed 300BI Below EV. The better your EV is the smaller the swings though. If I had 3%+ EVROI I wouldn't be down at 30s. I think I'm there now, I just need to put the hours in.

Back at it finally. Good, busy weekend spent with friends and both halves of my family. Short session today but did some study and ran some errands I've been putting off. Waking up 6am tomorrow for $11 and $109 HU SCOOP. Probably won't play many/any other scoop events because most of them start at 4:30am or after 10pm and the deep structure means I'd have to mess up my schedule completely. I think it's better EV for me to just focus on spins and move up again ASAP.

glgl with SCOOP to those playing.

Thanks. Alarm work me at 5:40 and I decided I was too tired to play on 4 hours sleep so woke up normal time, played too few games and did a few hours of study+an hour of coaching.

Ran into AA 5 time pre unavoidably. lots of running into big pp too. just general terrible fun over short sample, pleased with breakeven day. I made a lot of difficult folds in gross spots and made some good bluffs (some of which even went through). Have some catching up of volume to do over the coming days though. Shouldn't be too hard, just need to actually do it.

100 game day+study! Gogo minimum daily requirement! Gross run of coolers and card distribution short but nothing particularly unusual for this sample size.
Next update when I have another 500 games played and have a pretty giraffe.

Let's beat this volume tomorrow!
