Backstory:

So at the end of last year I blew my nearly $50k roll through a series of stupid and unfortunate events.

A look ahead:

Since then I have moved back in with my parents . I love my parents very much and I'm happy they support me in poker and whatever else I choose to do, but living with them drives me crazy and I'm sure I drive them just as crazy. I turn 21 on April 15th and I plan to move out again on my birthday. So I need to both build my bankroll back and have enough left over to cover my expenses.

The goal:

My original goal was to make $20k but due to the fact this thread is a few weeks late and I realize what I can accomplish I upped it to $35k. I feel like this is a great goal both because it's very achievable for me and if I fail but come somewhat close I'll be happy. Part of the goal is to also make to make 100k vpps by my birthday. I'm already supernova so I will get some nice rakeback during this time.

What will I be playing:

18 man Sngs and lots of them. I plan to basically only play 18man sngs. They are probably what I'm can play the best and at high volume. As far as stakes go I'll play what my bankroll permits all the way up to the 100s if I get that high.

Bankroll:
So $1500 was all I could muster for my bankroll all the other money I had I set aside for expenses for the next 4 months allowing my bankroll to be just that. I have no need to withdraw before my deadline and I have no plans to deposit and more money (unless some nice deposit bonus comes along).

I started playing $16/18s this will be least bankroll conservative time during my play. I had the biggest risk of ruin but I know I have a very high roi in the 16s and I was going to move down if I dropped under $1000 at any point. From there I set my move points as follows

Stakes|Weekend|Weekday
27 2700 3200
38 4000 5000
60 6500 8500
109 14000 20000

I think these are pretty good. The weekend/weekday basically has to do with I'm going to have a higher roi on weekends because the games are better.

Stuff you missed:

December: I made about $500 playing micro stake cash in my spare time before I even really set the goal.

January 1st-10th: I hadn't set the goal but I played about 150sngs resulting in me losing less than $100

January 11th: I got motivated finally. Something kicked in on the 11th I played about 120 sngs made $200 and set the original goal of $20k. I planned to hit 100k vpps by april 15th and make 7.2k for it and then make at least $10k from the sngs themselves.

Jan 12th-15th: I played over 550 sngs in this time and made $1600. Of these I had started mixing in $27s towards the end.

Jan 16-17th: Played 500 sngs ran pretty bad (mostly in the 27s) and lost $1000. I went on a 50 buyin downswing during this time but It didn't have an effect on my bankroll or motivation. Had the downswing been longer the challenge might have ended here.

Jan 18th-21st: Despite my downswing I grinded away knowing that I'm a winning player and if I put the volume in I would make money. I played over 800 sngs making over $3100 I started mixing in 38s towards the end as well.

Today: I'm not done playing for the day and I will update the thread when I'm finished but so far I've played 160sngs and made over $1200. This includes some 60s which I managed to run very hot in.

Graph for the year (Jan01-22)

Conclusion:

Thank you for reading and supporting me should you choose to do so.I should update this post if I remember anything that needs to be added. Any questions or comments feel free to post.

Had a very terrible day today. I played bad ran bad and the games were reg infested. I didn't get much volume in but still managed to lose about $800. After 3 years of playing poker you'd think I'd come to expect bad days. I can handle them just fine as far as tilt goes. but I still have that mentality of when I'm winning I'm the best and when I'm losing I'm the worst. I know in reality as far as player skill goes I'm a very solid player but I still have a lot to learn. Tomorrow I've decided to only play $16s to make sure I can have a winning day and keep my confidence up. I set my goal at playing 300 sngs tomorrow (my previous record is 245).

Basically the key to 18 man sit and gos is playing tight early on while the other players knock each other out maybe double if you flop a set or get it in with AA/KK preflop. Then once the blinds get big you must know your shoving and calling ranges well. 18 mans are very situation and knowledge of ICM (independent chip model) is very important. If you want to learn to play them I'm sure there is a book or training site that help get the basics and then from there I highly recommend getting SNG wizard.

so I played 253 sngs today so far. I probably won't play anymore tonight but I might end up putting one more quick session in to complete my 300 for the day goal. I'm happy I set the goal for today even if I don't end up making it because I focused only on putting in volume and not on the downswing. I didn't play my A game today but I felt I played fairly well overall. I timed out more than usual though mostly because I my sessions were a bit longer+ a bit more tables so it I was kinda feeling bleh. Also I had fast food for lunch instead of the usual healthy stuff I eat while I grind.

So heres how I did so far

+596 which is a little above expectation. I was running bad for the first 100 games but I'm happy because I didn't really let it affect me.

Thank you, if you you have any questions regarding 18 mans I'll try to answer them. I don't plan to give any info on my shoving and calling ranges though sorry if you are looking for that kind of stuff.

So just played a long session where I feel I played really well but ran very bad in key situations. 105 games +$179. I really feel that should have been about +$500. About to take a long break and continue in 2-3 hours.

So what a crazy day. I was curious to see if I could get Supernova elite if I wanted to so today I regged for every 27,38,60 that I could without stopping. Here are the results:

I earned 3100 vpps today and while I think it's I could probably earn supernova elite if I wanted to I really don't want to. I would probably end up getting burnt out completely by July. I'm still completely motivated to grind now but the only thing keeping me going is knowing I'll be able to stop in April. As for my results in the 60s you'd think it'd be the fact there are more regs or the fact the regs or better that caused that (both of those things are true) but OMG I ran bad in those. I wish it were possible to show an ev graph for 18 mans. I don't like to complain about run bad especially at these stakes when I've taken horrible bad beats live for $2k+ pots but when you are 24 tabling and all of sudden you are 16 tabling because you just got knocked out of 8 sngs at the same time it compiles on you. I plan to play a lot more 38s,60s friday/sat/sun to both put me ahead of my vpp schedule and to hopefully make some good money.

I just put in another higher stakes session and this time it went a lot better. 96 sngs played +$700.

My vpp total for the year is 29,150 so I'm ahead of schedule on that. I think I might aim for 140k or so vpps by April which will allow me to clear two 4k bonuses in that time. with stellar rewards that's $9,200 in rakeback. To get to 140k I need to play 10,000 more sngs by April 15th with an average rake of $2 which shouldn't be too hard. I have over 75 days left so if I average 130 sngs a day I'll make my goal. Additionally If I run as expected during that time I'll make $20k from the games so all together I'll stand to make about 29k from now until April 15th. With the over 6k I've already earned I will exactly meet my goal (at least that's my plan). But I'll be happy even if I run below expectation only make $1/game so long as I put the volume in plus I'll still end up with about $25k.

I've been grinding the higher stakes 18s for a couple of days now with mixed results. At least I am earning tons of vpps though and so far I've earned 7200 in the last 3 days alone. If I wanted to I know I could still make SNE this year but I'd have to seriously torture myself and I'd rather just enjoy life.

My results for 2011so far:

Enjoying your thread!
Curious how many tables you are running and if you are stack/tiling etc.

Also curious if you know of there is a way to find out if you are running below EV in HEM? Basically curious if I am ahead more or less than I am winning when the money goes in the middle
Thanks

I play between 16-24 tables continuously and I stack all tables the tables in one pile.

As far as ev goes in hem it only works for 9 mans and not 18+ mans. All in all you shouldn't worry about allin ev as it is only part of a factor of how you are overall running.

So I had a very crazy day finished 11th in a $22 mtt with a pretty decent prizepool when my KK lost to a 4bet bluff from 53o. Oh and heres a cool hand I played during the mtt.

As far as the 18 mans went I was running very bad early on but I never gave up and I played over 14 hours straight today. (I can't wait until April) However although I want to stop this just goes to show how motivated I am.

My results for the day you ask?

I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for the support though hopefully more will follow.

As for multi tabling it's really all about practice. When I first started playing online poker I couldn't even play 4 tables now I can play 30 if I had a fast enough computer. Slowly add tables and try to find the number that you are most comfortable with and when you are playing for real play that number minus a few. Also some people stack some tile some cascade try them all and do whichever you like the best. Also don't just multitable because you want to grind, make sure you know what you are doing and that playing more tables isn't negatively effecting your decisions. Hope this helps

As for 18 mans vs STTs I like the fact that they have higher achievable rois (imo) and the flat payout structure allows for a good player to really abuse the bubble better than in a STT. Also I've tried 45 and 180 man sngs and could never really get into them. They last too long and don't fill up as fast plus I don't think my hourly would be as high playing them.

Glad you are enjoying it. As for my original bankroll I destroyed it with a very run bad 150-300 limit session followed by staying up for 3 days and playing 75-150 running very bad and playing horribly. It was not a pretty sight.

Oh and a quick update at 41,600 vpps for the year.

Breakeven in the 60s sucks but I'm making money with rakeback and I'm confident I have a 5+ roi% in them.

Always nice to to run good in the highest stakes you play.
