So many of you were following my last thread in which I turned a measly $50 into $1000 in roughly 2.5 months playing part time. I accomplished this through a mix of NL STT's, and NL MTT SNG's. Primarily $2.25 regular speed STT's although I moved over to turbos towards the end of my challenge. Added in $2.20-180 man turbos and made a lot of progress on that end.

I have received a staking deal for MTT SNG's on Poker Stars. I do not need the money. I am taking this deal in order to get some good sweats in, hopefully plug some leaks, establish myself in the staking and MTT SNG community, and hopefully to blast through the levels of MTT SNG's offered on Poker Stars. I will be starting this stake playing $2-180 mans and quickly mixing in $3-45 mans to help even out some variance.

When I am not grinding out volume for my stake (which I should be doing roughly 4 hours a night, 4 days a week) I will be focusing on PLO on my FTP account. Currently my FTP account has about $385, however, once my staking offer details are completed (should be this evening) I will be cashing out my Poker Stars BR and transferring it to FTP, which should put me just shy of $1000.

My goal is to learn the game of Pot Limit Omaha Hi. I have been doing lots of study, as well as following the Small Stakes PLO sub-forum here. I will be starting with PLO10. I do not have a tracker at all for PLO, so I will be tracking my wins and win rate via PTR. I would like to make a couple hundred playing PLO10 before I move up. I will likely be starting out on the rush tables but will likely branch out to regular 6-max tables before long.

I will be using the below BR requirements.

Start $1000 --> PLO10
$1250 --> PLO25 <--$1000
$2000 --> PLO50 <--$1500
$5000 --> PLO100 <--$4000

Anyways, I would like to complete this goal by the end of the year which shouldn't be too difficult, but given that I only have about 20-25 hours a week to play and at least 16 of that will be spent grinding out my stake on Stars, it may take a little while.

I started my first session last night with roughly 500 hands 2 tabling PLO10 Rush. I finished the session down 2 buy-ins but I must admit that the tables seem extremely soft. I caught some run bad on my few all-ins against short stacks, and still managed to run one table up to about $30 in less than an hour. Also got a little too aggressive with AK5xds on a A35K double suited board. Got it all in on the turn, villain had a set of 3's and I couldn't hit. PTR has not yet updated my session so no exact details.

Last Challenge Thread

Looking forward to crushing some PLO.

Any questions, feel free to shoot away.

P.S. I run on a Mac so no Omaha Tracker at the moment. I will be loading up bootcamp in the next few days and should be picking up Omaha Tracker and TN at that point finally.

Goodluck sir.
Seen you in a 2.20 180 man on stars last night, someone raging on you cause you busted him with 82s ;D. Good times.

I'll most likely run into you if you're playing those for awhile.
GL with the omaha, the plo10 rush tables are pretty soft and as long as you got some padding on your roll I'm sure you'll be beating it in no time.

It was 83os I think ! I will definitely continue to play the $2.20-180's the majority of my poker time. They are just too damn soft to pass up. Will also use this thread to update my progress on that end and my progress on the stake. Will upload the details this evening once everything is finalized. We're gtg but they wanted to sweat me one session before they shipped me the monies ! =).

And thanks. I have the padding but going to be fairly aggressive with my BRM but more than willing to move down if/when need be. I'm sure I can beat the PLO10 rush game after seeing how bad most players were last night. Beyond that is unknown to me, but with more study, review, and time spent playing, I'm hoping that it will be doable.

Update from today. Played just one session of 8 $2.20 180's. Couldn't seem to win a coin flip. This was a sweat session for my backer to get a feel for my play. Managed to hit two final tables as short stack, squeezed out a 7th and 9th place. Had one other min cash as well. My play was good and was happy with the sweat as it help me realize a few minor leaks.

Anyways, finished that session -$1.10. This was still my own money.

Should be signing paperwork and getting the stake tomorrow (backer had an MTT session as soon as my sweat was done).

Anyways, played some more PLO10 rush today. Managed to irk out a buy-in or two. No super interesting hands. I feel like I'm learning the game very quickly and have a good idea when I'm beat or when I can value bet. Had some run bad as I kept flopping good straights/flushes and getting beat by the board pairing the river and villain donking PSB's into me. At least I was able to muck em this time around knowing I'm beat.

Anyways happy with my play so far. Roughly 2.2k hands at 10PLO and I'm about even. Nice part is it should have generated an ass ton of rakeback and I've only put in a couple hours.

FTP BR $963

I'm sweating my backer now after having watched his partner ship a 30k guaranteed a little earlier. Nite.

I will definitely give it a look. Only book I have read on Omaha to date was Farha on Omaha and it wasn't very remarkable TBH. Learned most of what I know through logic and following the SSPLO forum here. Will give it a look though and see what it's all about. Thank you for the recommendation.

Haha. Very true. But I'm a BR nit IRL and on the felt. Will see how things go at PLO50. Right now, I'm just more worried about winning over a 25kish hand sample on PLO10 rush. Have the 40 buy-ins for PLO25 already so could just jump right into that, but rather learn more of the nuances of the game @ PLO10 and save myself some costly mistakes later on =).

Example of a mistake I made the other day. Should be bet/folding that river 100% of the time I think but I checked it and he checked it behind. Considering he made a smaller flush as well, I'd have gotten paid on that river for sure. As soon as he checked behind I realized that the 9 was really his only way to beat me, and that had I bet he calls with a lot of worse hands, but will only raise KK, K9, KJ or other boats bigger than mine.

These are the types of things I want to clean up in my game before I move up =).

Super tight until 75/150 blind levels. Open it up a tiny bit there. Open up a lot and turn it into a steal game once antes hit at 125/250+25. Push fold basically there with good ICM. Then pwnage once ITM.

So...Ran like **** in PLO last night. Got it AIPF 3 times with AAQQds, AAKQs, and AATTds. Lost all 3. 2 of them to 4 card split straights (5679, 4578). Other one lost to 99TT. Running like ass pretty much sucks my nuts. had another AAxxds, flop was clean with nothing but a straight draw and I had the NFD. Villain 3 bets me on the flop, i pot it of course, he insta calls with a 6 out straight draw. Goes runner runner for a set, etc. Just some run bad.

Played a $2.20 1r1a turbo (10.5k gtd) and managed to min-cash in that to earn a few bucks.

Also, finally started playing on my stake on Stars last night. First 35 games, Net $41. Shipped one with a handful of early busts on FT's and a couple min-cashes.

Anyways, looking forward to grinding out some more volume on 180's. Graph is looking good over 360 games so far.

FTP BR: $932

Can't really decide if setting a PLO goal was the right thing to do. I think for now that will remain the goal as I'll be using it as a nice break from grinding $2.20 180's. I set this challenge 2 days ago but am thinking it may be tough to hit considering the volume bonuses my staker is offering me on 180's so most of my time will be spent there. 5k playing just a few hours a week in a high variance game is kinda suicide.

How about, I set my goal at 5k, but that includes profits from my staking agreement as well as anything else I earn, hopefully majority via PLO, but will probably be playing some MTT's as well ($4.40 - 135 rush turbo, $3.30 90 man KO's, and some larger field $1-5 buy-in events).

So yesterday sucked. Same old suckouts on PLO, and lost like $25 on my stake. Think PLO was down about $20-25 on the day.

Anyways, decided to change up the PLO game a little bit today and sat PLO25 with 40 bb's ($10) instead of full stack on PLO10. Worked out decently, cept for the QQxx and KKxx sucking out vs my AAxx on one table.

One table, managed to run my $10 up to $45 in about 20 minutes. I think I may like this strategy going forward. Also going to be looking into adding a table or two of HORSE into the mix when I'm playing PLO.

Didn't have enough time to grind on my stake at all today.

Up $15 on stake so far over ~50 games.

Current FTP BR: $923.82 with over $15 due in rakeback already and rakeback week not over til Tuesday.

Anyways, hoping to get a bit of play in tomorrow after I'm down cutting grass etc.

A couple PLO hands from tonight:

Pretty standard short stack hand getting it in with the aces here. Unfortunately, didn't hold up.

Didn't put villain on aces since he didn't re-raise me preflop. This also meant to me that it was doubtful that he had the NFD. Figured a set was possible but I had 11 outs if that was the case. Fortunately, all he had was the 6 out straight draw, and the 8 outs for two pairs. Nice to hold up in a good sized pot.

Worse Suckout:

Hero shows 2 Q K K (a flush, King high)
BTN wins $22.38
(Rake: $1.17)

Misclicked that flop (only reason for the check). Would typically pot here... Anyways, villain bets, I once again feel I have the best hand with the K high flush draw and the overpair. I shove, he nearly mucks, but calls on a 10 outer (flush or A). He hits and that's all she wrote.

Alright. I spent about 4 hours tonight playing on my stake. Managed to turn out a net profit after shipping one game despite running absolutely horrible on the night.

Stake is up $36.48 to date +$10 stellar reward which i offered to split with my backers even though it was 95% complete before I started the stake. Just too lazy to pull it out as my own. So it's going well, I've run like ass and still turned a reasonable profit. Only played 105 games so far on the stake, 49 of those being tonight, but hoping to have that number right around 250 games at the end of this month.

Will likely continue to only play $2-180 turbos on stars for the next month of the stake, hoping to play 800-1000 games in September. That should net a profit of about $1000 before split, and depending on the volume goals we set as a team, may get me a better than 50/50 split.

Played one satellite on full tilt $6.50 turbo to the miniFTOPS event #1 but got busted pretty early, KK to AA.

Anyways, popping on tilt right now for a few minutes to play a little bit of .25/.50 horse I think, or may just short stack PLO for a few minutes and try to make a couple bucks. Only going to play another 30 minutes or so before sleep.

FTP BR: $917.32

Will update tomorrow on the last 30 minutes I'm getting in now.

And this I know very much. Still don't like losing with them when I get all-in PF as a 60/40 favorite with them though. A good short stack PLO strategy is to play aces very fast. Obviously if there are 5 limpers in a pot and no one is folding to a raise, it's not worth raising with them as a short stack, but when there is a raise ahead of me and I know I can get it all in and be pot committed on the flop, it's very +EV to do so.

As an aside. Played a good bit Tuesday night. Lost about 30 BI's on my stake. Ran like absolute ass on the $2-180's. On the plus side I think may play was actually better than usual, started taking a little more time towards end game and looking for the optimal play rather than just shoving a +EV marginal edge. Played a bit of LHE on FTP afterwards and turned a few dollars profit 8 tabling $0.50/1.00.

Wednesday night, I did not get much play time in. However, I did go to best buy and picked me up a desktop with Windows 7, so I'm done with the poker on the Mac during the week. Primary reason for doing this was so that I wouldn't need to load Bootcamp on my Mac in order to be able to use Table Ninja.

Also working on swapping my old hand histories into HEM on the new machine. Got my Table Ninja and HEM set up on the desktop, and I must say, I like it very much although I'm sure it'll take me a few more days before I'm properly utilizing all of the features. For now, I have the following action hotkeys set up, in addition to default bet sizings.

a = Fold
s = Check
d = Call
f = Raise
p = all-in
l = move table out
Left Arrow = Previous action table
Right Arrow = Next action table
Up arrow = Increase bet size
Down arrow = Decrease bet size

Once I got passed initial set up and tested it out on play money tables, I popped onto 12 NL10 tables on tilt and played for about an hour. It was a little sketchy at the start with a few mis-clicks here and there, but by the end of the session, I was pretty much in love.

Finished up the short session of about 400 hands in roughly 45 minutes and up $20.00 or so.

Looking forward to setting up TN on Stars for tonight and giving it a run on $2-180's. Will probably start off 12 tabling and move it up to 16 as soon as I'm ready (maybe later tonight, maybe Monday).

$16 or so due in rakeback on FTP Friday. BR not including this pending rakeback is below.

Current FTP BR: ~$925

Alrighty then. So I had a decent night last night playing on Stars on my stake. After dropping 35 buy-ins off the bat I went on to 3 final tables. Finished with a 2nd, 4th, and 9th. Managed to cash a few in addition, and wound up getting my stake right back to breakeven. Roughly 50 games played.

I must say that so far I am extremely happy with Table Ninja. Makes life just soooooo much easier when trying to multi-table. Unfortunately due to run bad and slow stars last night I never had more than 14 games up and running, but I'm that'll change at some point in the future. Have Table Ninja set to cap me out at 20 games for now.

I have attached my most recent SS graph below.

$16.43 due in rakeback on Full Tilt today, so assuming that arrives:

FTP BR: ~$941

Hoping to get a little bit of grind time in this weekend playing some $.50/$1.00 LHE but we shall see. Will either play that or maybe some $3.30 90 man KO's on my own roll. Won't have a ton of time I don't think as I had another nephew born Monday morning whom I have not yet met!

Anyways, that's all for now. Best of luck at the tables all.

So today was kinda interesting. Decided to dabble a bit with the Staking and Share selling marketplace deal here on 2+2. Found a couple good players selling shares for Sunday majors and decided to pick up a small percentage. Used $70 from my roll to do this, and hopefully, if profitable this first go, I will continue to re-invest that $70+profits and then also add in whatever rake back I receive and continue to do this on a regular basis.

Popped on and played about 200 hands of .25/.50 and .50/1 LHE before I went out for dinner. Absolutely got crushed. Think I picked up AA 5 times during that short span, got cracked 4 out of 5, and on two those it got cracked I flopped a set and lost to runner runner flush ! Picked up a couple good sized pots to help even things out for the big ones I lost, but finished that super brief (30 min) session down $9.85. I really need to learn how to fold big pairs on drawy boards...

Got back from dinner and decided to play a handful of NLHE STT's on Tilt just cause it's SNG madness going on and wasn't sure if that would attract some bad players into the mix. Played one set of 9 $6.50 Turbos, cashed on 6, and profited $81.90. Four firsts and two seconds. Conclusion, a good number of random junkies playing STT's on madness weekend, didn't hurt that I was pretty much god mode with calling cards from the dealer though lol...

Anyways, that'll be it for me tonight.

Played about 200 hands of .25/.50 and .50/1.00 LHE last night. Had a few bad spots. Finished down about $3.00 over the short session. One big hand that got me back close to even pasted below. Biggest win yet in LHE.

Will likely be loading up a few SNG or cash sets after I finish dinner in about an hour. Looking forward to getting a little play time in off my stake.

Villain had been active, running 25/23 over 75 hands.

Alright. So I played a little bit more last night. Lost a few more dollars on LHE (frustrated) and broke even over 8 $6.50 turbo STT's. Nothing special really. I'm going to make the transition back to the game I love, and hopefully becoming a winning player at it. That game would be the good old fashioned NLHE FR. I am a major losing player at 200NL (54k hands), 400NL (20k hands), 50NL (30k hands), but a winner at 100NL, 25NL and below. Primary reasons for losses at the above stakes was having no clue how to play. No BRM, and no real knowledge outside of a book here and there.

Having spent the last few months studying the game, I feel I'm ready to give this a shot.

Going to start by 8 tabling NL10 until my BR gets back to 1k.

I am going to be using the "Stairway to High Stakes" BRM concept for my attempt. The one primary difference will be that I will not withdraw a dime until I'm playing NL100. Pasted a SS of the "Stairway to High Stakes" below.

I'm hoping that by only playing 8 tables at a time, I will be able to focus a bit more on my thought process through each hand, come up with some good default and adjusted lines, and be able to think each hand through to the river before I decide to make a bet pre-flop. Will also be adding some stats to my HUD as time goes on so that I may hopefully be better able to utilize them in cash games.

I will still be spending the majority of my time grinding on my stake on PokerStars, but I still think it is very achievable to earn my $4,000 by the end of the year. I am making a slight adjustment to the below BR strategy.

Instead of using the 30 BI BR set up as dictated in the photo, I will instead be using a 40 buy-in rule in order to shot take at the next level. I will be using an 8 buy-in downswing rule to move back down in stakes instead of the suggested 5 buy-in downswing.

So as of right now:

$400-$1000 = NL $10
$1000-$2000 = NL $25 (Move down if drop to $800)
$2000-$4000 = NL $50 (Move down if drop to $1600)
$4000-$10,000 = NL $100 (Move down if drop to $3200)
$10,000-XXXXX = NL $200 (Move down if drop to $9000)

My goal is to play 500 hands each day of NLHE FR 4 days a week for the rest of the year and also to dedicate one day a week to nothing but NLHE FR and study of NLHE FR. With 4 months to go, that is roughly 17 weeks, so I should see a total of 70,000 hands played if I DON'T move up in the number of tables I'm playing. Given my limited number of tables, I feel I should be able to earn 5ptbb/100 at NL10 and hopefully 4ptbb/100 at NL25. Which means my goal to hit 5k will likely be moved out until 2011 unless for some reason, I stop playing on my stake.

I can comfortably play 16 tables at a time, but as my main focus is to move up in stakes, I'd rather play less tables and focus more on thought process. Once I feel I can take an in depth thought process on more than 8 tables, I will begin to add on.

I apologize for changing my goals around so much over here, just can't keep myself focused on any one game as of late it seems.

I will still dabble with some STT's as well as MTT's on this account using a 150 BI rule for STT's and 250 BI rule for all MTT's greater than 44 players.

My staking / share buying of folks for Sunday majors was a bit of a bust. I re-couped ~$20 of the $45 lent out. Unfortunately no big scores there. Waiting to see what happens with the $25 I have on the line for Tuesday's runner but I think I will likely hold off on this for now, until I have time to do more research and have a larger roll. I will then treat it like my investing account and make sure I am well diversified with my trades.

Long term goal, is to get my pokertableratings.com (botboy141 on tilt and stars btw) lifetime graph back in the positive sometime in 2011. I have $8,710 to recoup as of today in order to make this happen.

FTP BR = $932 $25 still lent out for a stake on Tuesday ($957 if breakeven)

tl;dr warning. 4 hand histories, feel free to skip.

Made tonight my night of 10NL as I was kind of anxious to get some good cash game play (No-Limit) in.

Stuck to my requirement of only playing 8 tables. I think I could just as easily have been 12 tabling but did not want to break the requirements I set for myself just earlier today.

Session went fantastic. Played just under 1500 hands in 3.5 hours. Managed to avoid all sick coolers, and even won a few hands when I was hardly more than a flipping favorite.

Early on in my session. Decided I did not want to slow play at all on the drawy flop. So I bet, bet some more, and bet some more. Nice to get paid on occasion.

Pretty sick spot here. Once it was checked to me on the turn I thought about checking behind. However, I didn't put villain on an overpair based on his flat on the flop. Obviously, once he comes over the top I'm not mucking what I believe to be 15 good outs, which in fact were only 12 outs and not the ones I was expecting. Oh well, no lucky catch this time but I'll live.

Villain was 33/11 with a 6.0 aggression factor over 27 hands. When he checked behind on that turn, I had to assume he was on a draw as if he had any form of made hand he surely would have bet that blank. Villain pots after my check on the river, and while I don't have much, really just a bluff catcher, I was confident in my read that villain was on the draw, or had flopped the nuts. Made the call and found out that my read was correct.

This hand kinda confused me a little. Villain was 70/10 over 10 hands with a low agg factor, obviously stats fairly meaningless with this few number of hands, but unfortunately, a lot of villains don't last long enough to provide more hands.

I caught a fantastic flop. Villain snap called my flop bet. This bugged me a little. I had to think he had a piece of this flop. I thought about bet/folding the turn, and looking back, with 15 outs, that was probably the correct play. Something in the neighborhood of $1.25 would have done the trick. Really, I was hoping villain would either check it behind or make a reasonable (50% psb) bet and allow me to see the river. The potsize bet made me more suspicious and I considered shoving over the top, but given that I really have no read on him, was nearing the end of my session, I decided to pass up this marginal spot. This hand will be posted in the uNLFR forum shortly for some more feedback over there.

Anyways, I finished the 1470 hand session in 3 hours 20 minutes and up a whopping $57.76. This takes my winnings on FTP at 10NL up to $76 with a ridiculous 20PTBB/100 WR. Obviously, this is not sustainable, but some run good is always nice. I mentioned in my previous post that I would move up to 25NL at $1000 BR, however, I would like to get some more hands in at 10NL to have a better idea of my win rate. I broke the 1k mark tonight (as you will see below) but have decided that I want 15-20k hands absolute minimum at 10NL before I move up. Need to get back into NLFR grind mode before I think I'd be comfortable at 25NL.

FTP BR: $1,000.57
$25 still out on stake until tomorrow night, hoping he can bink something and I double my BR ! lol ...

Nite folks, may your cards run as well as mine this evening.
