Hello everyone!

I'm new here and fairly new to "serious" online poker. In order to learn the game, I've started a BR challenge to grind out 50 BI for 10NL by playing 2NL and 5NL and exposing it to the world.

The current bankroll is $100 (50 BI for 2NL) and the plan is to take shots once the BR reaches 50 BI for the next stake.

The site I'm playing on is GG Poker and I plan to grind 25k hands/month 2 tabling (fast fold).

I will try to post hands together with my thoughts mid-hand regularly to assess at which level I am.

For starters, I have one hand that I would like to discuss:

GG Poker - $0.02 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 210 BB
SB: 100.5 BB
Hero (BB): 167.5 BB
UTG: 138 BB
MP: 363.5 BB
CO: 284.5 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 7 9

fold, fold, fold, BTN raises to 2 BB, fold, Hero calls 1 BB

Flop: (4.5 BB, 2 players) 7 7 Q
Hero checks, BTN checks

Turn: (4.5 BB, 2 players) A
Hero checks, BTN bets 3 BB, Hero raises to 11 BB, BTN calls 8 BB

River: (26.5 BB, 2 players) 5
Hero bets 26.5 BB, BTN raises to 197 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 128 BB and is all-in

Thoughts:
Pre Flop - we do not have any reads on Villain other than the HUD that show he's a tight player (20/14).
Flop - dry paired board, x-x seems pretty standard although I expected Villain to bet frequently.
Turn - the Ad hits his range therefore I like the XR. I think we get a lot of value from any Ax, AQ and draws.
River - 5h is a brick and I bet pot in order to avoid a X back from any Ax. Villains raise surprised me but given that we need 38% equity, I don't think we can fold here.
Spoiler:
BTN shows Q Q (Full House, Queens full of Sevens)
(Pre 80%, Flop 96%, Turn 98%)
Hero shows 7 9 (Three of a Kind, Sevens)
(Pre 20%, Flop 4%, Turn 2%)
BTN wins 331 BB
Rake paid 3 BB

Good luck with the project. You played the hand well, but you can fold on the river. People don't bluff here often and you don't beat value unless villain is a big fish

Your thought process is very good for a 2nl player I'm sure you'll do well, good luck!

On the turn the Ad improves a lot of BTN's check backs but they don't have that many traps or improve to very strong hands. Your 7x is intact so you have the nut advantage and can put in a HUGE turn bet with 7x and a variety of bluffs. XR is fine but just go bigger with the same principle.

River bet is good people aren't reopening thin enough especially after you XR turn. Facing river bets I don't find the pot odds/equity to call model useful, instead I think "do I beat value any bets?" and "is villain overbluffing?". If you beat any value you can can call unless people are way underbluffing. In this spot I don't think a TAG is shoving with 87s/76s so it's probably AA, QQ, A7o, maybe K7s. Villain can't have A7s or Q7s because the Ad and Qd are on the board and you have the 7s. Everything missed so he does have a lot of bluffs to choose from but it's not a fun spot to decide to blast when someone goes XR then pot.

I'd probably start overbetting on the turn personally to maybe 2x-3x and plan on another overbet or jam a lot of rivers.

I think the river is a 100% fold.

2 NL Week 1 Update:

BR: $92.08/$500

Had a rough start. I'm satisfied with the volume but I've been playing very passively in the beginning of the week. Fortunately with a little bit of session reviews, I've managed to stop that at the end. Hopefully the climb will continue in week 2.

It looks to me like you put money in the pot and fold it away often. Also take is so brutal you want to play as few pots as possible. Splashing around a find feeds the rake.

IÂ’d play less hands, only 3 bet really strong and suited cards. And just wait patiently for people to do something dumb.

Also maybe donÂ’t play zoom games. Try 2 or 4 tabling regular tables.
