Hi Guys

Recreational player. I suck at online poker

Cannot control tilt. All my previous challenges failed

Have been playing recreationally and losing all my $50 to $100 buyins

Thought I'd do one more challenge for fun.

Objectives
$100 to $500 - no timeline
Start with
$5 STTs on 888
4 to 6 tables

Move up to $10 STT once I touch $250

Will play whenever I feel like.

Shall post once in a week or two.

Pretty good start to the challenge
Played 10 $5 STT today
1st - 3
2nd - 2
3rd - 2

Bankroll - ~$152

Pretty comfortable with STTs. But all I need is some variance to get me tilted and screw up the bankroll.

I hope that doesn't happen

Had a brutal session today

Stats so far

Played 1st 2nd 3rd ITM%
2/20/2020 4 1 1 2 100%
2/21/2020 22 5 2 2 41%
2/22/2020 34 2 2 3 21%

TOTAL
Played 60
ITM - 20
ITM% - 33.33%

My mid-phase game needs to improve. Will try and avoid being aggressive with reg nits.

Bankroll - $80.36

Have some bonus points now that I can redeem but I won't be redeeming it until it touches $20+

If my BR touches $50, will move down to $3

The best part - I haven't had a meltdown so far with the bad beats

The following hand almost had me

UTG+1: 37.12 BB
MP: 69.72 BB
MP+1: 35.37 BB
CO: 51.27 BB
BTN: 35.37 BB
SB: 36.37 BB
BB: 36.12 BB
Hero (UTG): 36.12 BB

8 players post ante of 0.13 BB, SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 2.5 BB) Hero has T T

Hero raises to 4 BB, UTG+1 calls 4 BB, fold, fold, fold, BTN calls 4 BB, fold, BB calls 3 BB

Flop: (17.5 BB, 4 players) 5 T 9
BB checks, Hero bets 8.75 BB, fold, BTN raises to 31.25 BB and is all-in, fold, Hero calls 22.5 BB

Turn: (80 BB, 2 players) K

River: (80 BB, 2 players) 5

Spoiler:
BTN shows 5 5 (Four of a Kind, Fives)
(Pre 20%, Flop 4%, Turn 2%)
Hero shows T T (Full House, Tens full of Fives)
(Pre 80%, Flop 96%, Turn 98%)
BTN wins 80 BB

Not that you have started particularly badly,
but this might be one of the places you are going wrong. The best STT players generally have a strategy of starting extremely tight and going wild with basically atc on the bubble.

We are aiming for 1st place and ICM dictates a small calling range on the bubble. We want to exploit this by shoving as much as possible. Try to figure out which players call light on the bubble and which ones are scared money.

Generally speaking the best STT players have a lot of 4th place finishes, but the strategy pays for itself as you will pick up more 1st places.

Also, it's not large enough sample, but you seem to have better results the less you play. Try to figure out how long you can play for before your game is no longer 100%.
Some people can play for 8 hours straight and still play their a game. For others they might prefer to break the sessions up into 2 or 3 hours with breaks in between.

Hey. Thanks for your feedback. You are right. I play with scared money and try to make it to top 3 and then start with the shovefest. This may be a wrong approach I think

I usually play 2 to 3 hours a day after a full day's work and only play for 5 to 6 hours during the weekends. Just want to work on my mental game, play recreationally and move up.

Had good day today

My game has been fine. I've been working on the leaks too. The best part is that I still haven't had a crazy tilt. Hoping to continue and see where March takes me.

Still a very small sample size. For March, I hope to play 450 to 500 STTs

Decent session today. Tried 8 tabling (up from usual 6). My screen does not allow me to tile all 8 tables. Never tried cascading so am not sure if I should explore that. Comfortable with tiling so will stick to 6 tabling.

Still at it

Survived two 9 buyin downswings in last 3 days - They were scary and demotivating but the best part is I did not lose it and spewed the money on HUSNGs to recover what was lost (thats what I usually do and thus this challenge). Discipline is what I've always lacked and am hoping I can put my head down and complete the challenge

Good job OP. Keep on the grind, your results should improve as you get more used to the format and some of your opponents.

In the hand you posted above you cant really put 71bbs in on a very scary flop with 1 pair. I'm not saying you donked off, but unless you know villain makes questionable decisions I dont think you are beating much. AT, JJ-AA and any combination of picture cards have you in very bad shape.
What do we want him to have AQ? KT? Seems pretty unlikely.

Hey - You are right - He was a reg. Bad play from my side. Usually a lot of recreational players go in with any Ace but he was a reg with tight stats. Should have played accordingly

Good work mate, good to see it's heading in a good direction. Keep us informed on the step up to $10. Would be interesting how you find the difference!

+kudos for not tilting and pi**ing away the bankroll like how I always do!

Played 24 games so far. Lots of aggression preflop and at early stages. People do not mind shoving with AK/AQ 3 way bet preflop first hand of the trny. Even in the later stages, lots of players shoving in (with good hands though)

Great job OP. Seems like you can beat the $10 in the long run just put in lots of volume. Like Wacker says, what's the plan when you hit $500? Make it $100-$1000?
Also in the hand above when you hit trip 9s on turn, you cant ever consider folding. Ship it in and suck it up when you lose.

Will start another mini challenge - maybe $500 to $1500. Nothing ambitious and difficult to achieve
