Hi all,

UK player here.

I have finally decided to post on here because throughout my poker life I have majorly lacked discipline. I have simply decided to sort myself out and I will post the journey here.

About me. People say I am a good player. I tend to spin up really well and grind for a while well. However, the same story has been happening for my entire poker life. My tilt is that I play as big as I can. I do not play badly when I tilt, I simply sit in the biggest game which I can buy into. This then always leads me to go bust. I play NL Holdem and PLO live and PLO on Stars.

I deposited $100 online at the start of the month. I played a few tournaments and cashed for a tiny amount. Grinded at 0.5/1, spun it up, played a little at 1/2 and 10/20, all PLO on Stars. I got the account up to 4.2k and then sat again on 10/20 and dropped 1k. I kinda titled because I had a bad beat so sat on $25/50. The usual regs sat down since they did not know me. I sat down with around 2.5k and got my money in just over 60% favourite. Luckily I held. I had my account on 4.3k and thought to myself 'what on earth am I doing?'. I then self-restricted my account so that I can't play bigger than 0.5/1. I think I will keep a bankroll of around 50 buyins at a level. So I want to get to 10k before moving to 1/2.

Anyway, I been grinding for quite a few hours today. Played the Sunday Million and came around 1100th out of around 11.5k. Got it all in with KK against A9.

PLO has not been kind to me. Currently down around 4.5 buyins for the day. Pretty much always getting it in 70% favourite.

I am really looking forward to this challenge of not tilting by playing big. Playing that way must and always will end up busto.

I am single, not working and have money. I am focusing on this full time.

Maybe this place will help me too so that I can post when on tilt (not that anyone cares lol).

By the way, I do not use any HUD/PokerTracker etc. I am a complete newb with it. How important is this with online nowadays? I really feel I do well when simply concentrating but I don't play more than 2 or 3 tables. I find I play really well when playing big and just one table, but I guess that is because I have a fear factor. It is hard concentrating like that at smaller stakes but I guess that is the discipline required.

I also picked the 40k goal just off the top of my head. Just a gut instinct as to what would be a decent goal. It will be interesting to see how this goes compared to peoples predictions.

It also just occurred to me, wouldn't I need PokerTracker to post hands here? Told you I am a newb to this.

Best of luck to you all.
Roy

Finished playing for tonight.

Had an insanely bad player drop $$$ to get my account back near level for the day. Given the run of cards I am really happy.

Also lost a couple of big pots where I was around 60% and 55% which would have given me another 4 buyins. Always feels like I lose the big ones.

Knackered. Finished around a 10 hour grind on Stars.

I prob lost around 80 bucks in tournaments. I think I might stop playing them and occasionally play sats for the Sunday Million.

I purchased PokerTracker 4 today. It was working alright but suddenly my computer started working really slowly. I have started rebuilding the cache and it is now working ok. Apparently this will take a while.

Not much to talk about tonight, standard stuff I guess. Am looking forward to posting hands and graphs.

in for the swings.

challenge is certainly possible but you're gunna have to stay away from the tendency to spin it up and move up if you got any chance!

Yeah you are exactly right. That is my biggest challenge. The restriction I have put on the account is a blessing.

I am focused now on the grind and hopefully getting to 10k so that I can play 1/2.

Thanks.

Villain has a bit of a hand, probably ul to be 32.5% on the turn when the money goes in.

All about money management I guess. Feel good to be at these stakes with no urge to spin up.

Villain is a reg and knows I am grinding at this level regularly (he won't play me hu and will sit out if we are the only two left).

Should I try and play this slower or it is fairly standard?

I had some horrendous beats and went on tilt. I played $500 HU hyper turbos lol. I find them fun!

I was up and down and then lost a couple. Account went on 3.2k I removed the stakes restriction yesterday and played 25/50 PLO tonight for a couple of hours.

Was fun.

Sometimes I think I should just deposit a chunk and grind 5/10 but I want to beat the stakes at each level.

I think I should step down again but find 0.5/1 soul destroying.

Account balance: $7014

I decided to move up to 1/2. I find it easier to play and just better generally than 0.5/1.

Had a good day today and made around $1300 I think. For some reason PT says around $1,170 but I went in the Sunday Million (half price this week and rebought once). Playing fairly well at the moment and feeling good. Only played for a few hours tonight. Gonna try and go for a long walk now and get my mind on something else to break things up.

Todays graph below.

Starting to feel motivated. Let's do this!

Subbed, GL!
Basically an identical story as you as far as the crazy tilt (although 5/10 or 10/20 was as high as I ever needed to move up to bust myself)
Back in it the last few months and trying to grind my way up plo stakes. Currently at .25/.50 and have been good about preventing insane tilt.
Hope it doesn't happen, but if you do go bust from degening, please update as a warning to the rest of us!
