Back in it the last few months and trying to grind my way up plo stakes. Currently at .25/.50 and have been good about preventing insane tilt.
Hope it doesn't happen, but if you do go bust from degening, please update as a warning to the rest of us!

I deff will be updating this no matter what happens. Feel good playing 1/2. It is funny because even live, I think you got to find your game where you feel good at. There are lower stakes which for whatever reason, I find harder that higher stakes. I also know people who are better suited to lower stakes. You probably just got to find what suits your game.

I have a roll now so no excuses.

Feeling good in a way because I been playing quite a bit today, something like 1500 hands I think. Had a really really bad beat from a horrendous play for around a $650 pot. Felt a bit tilted but rather than go on tilt I decided to log out. I never do that and realised that after that I still made money for the day. I feel I should be happy.

Yes, bankroll management is key, as is not playing badly and staying focused.

I wonder how some people think there could be no value in poker any more. I remember this conversation something like 12 years ago. Humans will always be human, people will play bad, gamble, and you will always have people donating.

I am sticking to 1/2 until I get maybe 30k before playing 2/5.

Bankroll: $13,868

Update: Been playing OK at 1/2, much prefer it to 0.5/1.

I did however have a couple of bad spots. I played 5/10 for a bit a couple of days ago. Won around $600 from one of the regs. I got it in 70/30 favourite.

I then however took a shot at 25/50 today and played a hand badly. I sat down with 2k and lost around $400 really quickly (basically just seeing a flop lol). I then reloaded to 5k. I instantly get 8866 on the button and raise. I can't remember if the sb reraised but I saw a flop. Came K high with two diamonds. I called a small bet when I should have passed. Hit a set on the turn and it also made a flush. I set the guy in who only had 1.2k left. He had a flush and I housed up on the river, was only around 22% or something like that to win the hand. Soooo bad and not like me.

I then went down to 1/2 and won around $800.

I put the restriction back on my account so I can't play bigger than 1/2. I am not going to play big now.

Bankroll: $16,075

Challenge failed.

I was playing 1/2 and started playing 2/5 when I was really tired. Dropped quite a few buyins. Played the next day and ran horrendously bad. Kept losing when I was monster favourite.

Started playing 10/20 and the bad run continued. I remember one hand when I got it in with KK45 (K4 diamonds) against a really bad player for a huge pot. The board was 2 3 6 (two diamonds). How he could stack off on the flop with aces is beyond me (no fd either). Turn 6 river 6.

So stuff like that kept on happening. I ended up cashing out $5k.

I don't think online is for me to play seriously. I think you have to put in soooo many hours that I end up not doing anything else in life. If you are super disciplined maybe you can do it but I feel like I want to be doing other things. When at home, I feel that I should be playing all the time. In short, I want to do other things. I will play live now and again and pursue other things in life. I have money too so I ask myself why bother playing.

Anyway, I wish you all the very best of luck in poker and in life.

Best wishes,
Roy

Good job cashing out something at least. I feel like most people would have just rage dumped the last 5k. You got a bankroll for whenever you do go play live.

^totally agree. cashing out in profit, although not hitting your large goal, is still a win nonetheless.

gl moving forward!

Hi all,

I am back!! lolol

So the last time I played at my casino, a few months ago, I bought in for 1k in an Omaha game and spun it up to 6k. I played really well in doing so. In my classic style when playing live, I played too long. I got tired but it was so much fun playing, I stayed when I should have left and started playing badly. I proceeded to blow the lot.

I then said to myself that I simply haven't the discipline for poker.

So I been doing other things in life, but not making any money. Poker is all I am good at (ability wise). I got no qualifications. Ironically when I was at university the other students who knew me thought I would graduate with top grades. Instead I was so bored and didn't even sit all of the exams and blew it all. Maybe there is a lesson there with how I have been with everything in my life. Before university I was a good amateur boxer and expected to become world champ as a pro....only to go on drugs and party and shag like crazy.

Anyway, here we are. I was bored because I am now staying at home loads due to this coronavirus. So a few days ago I decided to deposit again on Stars and play cash. I usually just mess about playing tiny tournaments jsut to pass some time. So I have decided to take this seriously yet again and really trying to break out of the habit I have with everything in life where I just destroy it.

Anyway, I am going to keep this thread updated. I spun my account up a little bit and now going for a grind, lets see, although I went giddy last time, if I can hit this target with the recent deposit of 1k.

Current bankroll: $3,951

That was it basically. Shipped my roll in on the turn with a wrap

There is no doubt that players at that level play well. I feel like I can hold my own with most of them but I could be wrong. I am wondering what separates them from a decent grinder at the lower levels, say 2/5? Is it skill or is it character, where everyone just has a level they are comfortable with?

No doubt they study a lot. I never do that and that is the one thing I feel would help my game a lot.

Has anyone got any good things to study for poker nowadays? I am one of the old skool who used to just look at how players are playing and try and get into their head to see what they are doing. However, and I know I am super behind, but so many are so good nowadays with the math and the ranges etc. This is what I need to learn more and adapt with the times. Someone just mentioned to me something about GTO hand selections. I have never even heard of it lol. I need to learn about ranges and strategy more.

What are peoples thoughts about Zoom poker?
