Playing 2/2 plo at live, new player who works at mgm as brush is all in, super sweet young woman but clearly unfamiliar with the rules of the game, not sure she can even afford to play. Encouraged her to leave after a double up but she stayed. she then calls first player’s all in but did not see a second player all in for a little more after that, wants to take back her call, floor rules must call even though I tried to stand up for her - gross misunderstanding and new player etc. she gets stacked. Got the dude who insisted she had to call the next hand though.

She lost all in to me a couple hands later, but she only had $25, I just gave it back to her. Not trying to take a little extra money from such a nice person.

Did well last night, at live l/r AAQTTds and made top set on AJ2 and V had mid set and we got it in. Draws got there a few times too. The main game was bad so I played 2/5 for a little until I realized the must move wasn't good either so I just left for mgm as my friend there said the games looked good. Lost a few hundo at plo, one bluff didn't get through, one set probably outdrawn, 10/10/25/50 seat opened and I sat down, then the floor arrived and said someone loked up the seat and gave e the boot, now really upset, it was a not friendly person who took my seat too, waited and almost didn't take the 10/10 seat when it opened up again. Finally sat down, bought in for $3k, got some AA, one all in versus a bad hand and won both runouts. Made over $1k there in over an hour it got really short handed and I was tired and went home booking around a $3k win on the night, not bad at all. Good karma from giving the brush her $25 I like to think.

Made just over $2k at plo, started losing as game got tighter and ran mid set nfd and nut gutter into top set AAA in single raised pot as the preflop raiser. Decided to quit and book the win. Otherwise ran really well, turned quad queens and V rivered kings full one hand. Another in 4! pot made Ts full of Qs on the river on TT37Q, $250 flop jammed turn. Making an obscene $200 an hour this month so far at 2/5 and 2/2 plo. Now wrapping up at a decent 2/5.

I am starting a bankroll challenge for the rest of the year: $30,000 by December 31, starting today. Let’s go!!!!

This will involve avoiding the big mixed game and playing mainly plo and to a lesser extent hold ‘em and the smaller mixed games for variety.

Up around $1,950 tonight. Hopefully I end today on a high note.

Hey! Thanks for jumping in, I would like this thread to be more interactive.

It's going relatively well. I've adjusted really well from working a day job and playing to just playing. I don't really miss working, apart from one or two fellow employees. I really didn't like my new boss, she seriously stressed me the f out. Really never got on board with the whole 9-5/meetings/reports system. That and the feeling that my employer somehow had some power over me because I was dependent on the income, which was never really true. I value my freedom and I lost a lot of that when I took on a full time job. Things were better when I was part time.

It's been surreal when the talk about what I do arises, or people who knew what I did ask ow it's going. One guy asked why I would give up doing good for a bottomless pit like poker. I am only a little conflicted that I am not helping people anymore. I helped a lot of people while I did it and that's something that will always be true. I am probably most proud of a matter I advised on involving a mentally ill person who had been in prison for a long time due to a murder committed while he was hallucinating. I helped get him out year later after he'd been getting treatment for his illness and was stable.

I've gained a lot in terms of mental health benefits to myself. I am no longer stressed about balancing the two priorities, no more late night sessions followed by torturous early morning meetings, no more feelings like I am not giving my all to either endeavor. I live a simple life now without a lot of worry. I wake up to my espresso, put in my 8-10 hours of table time and drive home with my portable speaker playing my favorite internet radio tunes. I am no longer always in a rush either. Every night getting to bed was always in a hurry when I worked. Now things just happen naturally.

Toughest spot? It usually involves a super aggro whale in plo where I don't have a lot going for me and I get bluffed. Or a good pro who sees a capped range and applies max pressure in hold 'em where I have a medium to weak made hand.

Thankfully I play so much I can eat on my comps pretty much every day so I don't really pay for food. It saves me a lot of money every year in expenses.

Wrapped up last night on a high note, stacked a foreign pro and a hold 'em player 3!/cold 4!, I flat, jam re-jam, I snap it off figuring they are blocking each other and I have 99887 and scoop with a straight on an all diamond flop.

Ended up $2,900, minus $150 in the mix.

End of year BR goal: $30,000, up $2,750, $27,250 to go.

I've been out of work a while now with this terrible job market and been thinking of just giving poker a serious go when I can. I do feel like it's a "bottomless pit" and a dead end though, so that stops me. Maybe this is too personal a question but I'm curious if you have future plans? Is poker the end game? Or just taking it one day at a time?

Unemployment is very low right now, I am sure you should be able to find something.

Right now I consider this a break from legal work, and if the right opportunity arises I may jump back into it. I just need time off right now, not getting through the background process was a real sad blow that left me a little disenchanted with the profession. One of my former employer's upcoming leaders has mental health as a agenda priority so something might come up at that time for me to get involved again. Only time will tell.

Hey, poker is not so bad in the end - for me at least. It's really good money, not too stressful, and I'm my own boss. I will be able to retire very comfortably at this rate. Part of me even considers this an early retirement of sorts. I mean, I get rich off playing a game all day. Could be worse.

Last night was easy going for the most part, biggest was probably QJ965ds on 853 three way all in in 4! pot. I have really smoothed things over with some players who I had gotten into it with previously. One said he really respected my game, another started telling me about his family. A third says hi when I join the game. Really happy about this, the negative interactions were the only thing that really made this a tough experience.

Car is in great shape again, glad I put in the money to fix it up instead of buying another one.

BR challenge: $23,434 to go.

QJ865*.

Started the day well, espresso with the foamy finish was a welcome start to my day. Some push ups and jogging, nothing too crazy. Bought a new pull over too just to reward me for my hard work and success lately.

Rocky start so far at the tables though, AAQJT outdrawn, another AA outdrawn, both preflop all ins, but will continue to battle, the night is young.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Made a good comeback, A6622ds on J665 versus 55 for the full double (what's with all the quads and getting paid lately!?), lost some back before calling it a night and sleeping through Thanksgiving lunch lol.

Ended up $550. BR goal: $22,884 to go.

sis, mom and dad, the doggos

old beat up ride works again

poker is profitable as ever (as long as I avoid big mixed games)

my parents raised me to be frugal

my old client's friend texted me to say thanks and how much they respect me

my comfortable lifestyle

hot showers

my itchiness went away after a few says of treatment, hooray!

i didn't lose more playing mixed games and booked a good profit in the smaller games

i don't have mental health symptoms and my meds work

i sleep well

my fitness is improving daily

i am getting along better with players I didn't always

i've made $92 an hour this year playing low/midstakes plo

this thread and people who follow it, getting 1,000 views some days, wow! (feel free to say hi)

the free bar poker leagues that introduced me to poker (RIP Christi, we had our political differences when the pandemic hit but I'll always remember our walks together in Great Falls, karaoke nights, blueberry oreo milkshakes at the diner, and be grateful for Virginia Northeast bar poker, thank you).

just look at this little guy!

I should, hopefully soon. Poker has helped keep me afloat a few months but paying bills out of my "roll" makes it difficult to build a real roll without a job.

That's one of the main things I've loved over this recent period, and back during the pandemic when I just played poker. The freedom. And I've had issues with bg checks in the past so it's nice to be able to make money without jumping through a bunch of hoops.

Best of luck to you. Thanks! Poker can be very rewarding once you find your niche. You have to find a game you are really good at compared to the field at high enough stakes to earn a decent hourly.

Rough start at 2/5 while waiting for plo, Kk cracked by TT on J64 all in on the flop in 3! pot. V put me on 78s lol.

At plo now up and down, big draw lost to top pair worse fd, but got it back soon with AT986ds.

What do you think?

Not a bad midstakes plo graph this year either. A little rocky in the middle which was when I switched to mixed games out of sheer frustration.

Up $2,100 at plo, game slowed down and I started losing so I left for 2/5. Extremely racist and antisemitic dude kept insisting I was Jewish and berating me after he took chips off the table and came back with $3,000 less 30 minutes later and I asked him to put it all back on the table. We ended up making up in the end after he blasted it all off and said he learned a valuable lesson.

Just got back my KK money at 2/5 with 55 on KK56Tccc against AKcc.

2/5 got bad, now at a good 5/T whiffing some flops so far, but letting the game come to me and not forcing anything. Going on 16 hours of play time now…! Feeling tired, will call it soon and crash for a long snooze and start fresh in the AM.
