3-5 holdem 9 handed, assume everyone has $500 stacks, Hero has just sat down at table

UTG +1 limps in
UTG +2 limps in
HERO limps in with KQ offsuit
UTG +4 raises to $25
BB, UTG +1, +2, and Hero all call

flop J 5 3 rainbow (pot $100)

all check to UTG +4 who bets $30
BB folds
UTG +1 calls
UTG +2 folds
HERO?

probably raising pre, but if I limped then it is with intention to usually fold to a raise regardless of the other callers

readless, c/f flop

If your going to continue I would say raise to 100 and then shut it down if you get any more action from him. I don't really think calling makes this a fun hand to play. Whats the plan if you miss again, check fold? You could be drawing against AK/AQ so floating with the hopes of improving is not necessarily a good idea either.

FOLD.

The biggest leak by far of most poker players is the inability to be a complete nit for the first hour until you get a read on the entire table

You have no idea if UTG+4 is a nit, maniac, LAG, TAG, etc nor how the rest of the table reacts to him.

Daniel Negreanu wrote a great article in Bluff (or was it Card Player) titled "Breathe" in which he takes this approach.

He plays nit ABC poker for the first hour until he gets a read on all the players and an understanding of the table dynamics and THEN he adjusts accordingly.

Calling a $25 raise above with KQ is just flying 100% completely blind. Barring a JT9 flop, you have absolutely no idea where you stand.

And if you think you can "read" anything having just sat down, then you are dreaming.

Simply fold and move on. There's really no turn that is going to make you feel good about your hand.
