Tipping is a taboo topic outside of tipping containment thread, and for good reason.

How do you guys keep track of your tips? Should I adjust my winrate if I tip a $5 every 1k pot?

He's making a case for you to tip him exactly zero per hour.

I don't adjust for rake, so I don't adjust for tips either. Not worth the effort.

Great job that was amazing. You got me. Thanks for reading

I usually tip a dollar to the cage and a dollar for all of my waters, and I think that's reasonable

Do you tip the hobos outside too?

Never tips cage.

Doesn't order water so that he doesn't have to tip anyone.

Every dollar I give to someone is $1/hr less that I'm not winning assuming I win one pot/hr. I'm probably beating 1/2 for >$30/hr if I didn't tip ever. Maybe I should stop...

See above for bringing it back to winrates.

Tips dealers conservatively because it's the right thing to do.

It's a bad screen name. What would a real volume king entail? Massive hours with massive winnings. I have none

Volume King clearly took a page out of GrindPokerAllDay's playbook for picking acreennames. Both great players but names don't fit them at all.

BTW, I always tip the cage and tip for drinks. Tipped the nice pretty girl from Paris $2 for the girly strawberry drink she brought me today.

I don't tip cage. Sometimes I'll tip floor 1-2 dollars if I'm doing well.

I'll tip $1 for waters but I always get 2 at a time.

I do admit I splurge on tipping if I'm crushing, if I win a 2k pot (1k in profit) I'll tip $10 -- assuming it's not 1-2k pots every orbit.
Generally I'll just tip $1 for hands over $100, $2 sometimes if its $500+

I probably overtip honestly.

Prob explains why all the dealers like me. Obv can't be my personality (like lets be honest)

If I did this, my hourly would probably go up a few bucks...

I shouldn't feel bad about tipping that "low", because I'm basically valuing the dealer's time at $36/hr, which seems quite fair.

I think I'll try to do this next time I play, and report back on how many dirty looks I get after scooping some $800 pot.

I think tipping the cage is beyond ******ed for most of the buy-ins and cash-outs we have here. If you're having them count out $30k .... sure. But for $200-1000? No ****ing way.

The impact dealer tipping has on winrate depends an awful lot on what kind of player you are and when you tip. $1/hand is pretty standard. But if you're really aggro and tipping when you take down a $12 pot OTF every couple of hands you're going to burn a lot more than the nit that plays 2 hands an hour.

Don't tip on pots where I win < 20 or anything pre flop( unless I take down a big one with some tanking) if I win a few tiny pots from the same dealer or if they're one of the better ones I'll throw a buck

this doesn't apply in casinos as much but it does matter a lot in home games.

2 years ago I played in a game that had no white chips, red birds were smallest denomination. they pulled around 500 dollars off the table per hour in rake so I didn't tip. the game was super juicy and one session I walk in and the house tells me my seat got bumped because players thought I was too cheap. I learned a lot the last few years about greasing the right wheels in home games and now fish call and ask me to come play with them.

in casinos I think tipping the floor has a lot of value since they are in position to get you into good games should they pop up. I imagine this isn't as important at 1 2 and 2 5 since all games at those stakes are easy, but should a random big game with whales and a wait list arise, you wanna be the first person the floor thinks of, and the more money you give them, the more they think of you. =)

I only tip cage when I win, and usually only $1.

I also get overexcited with tips when I win big. The 1st time I played 2/5 I got lucky and raked in a $1.5k pot. Was so happy I tipped the female dealer (who looked a lot like Hillary Swank) $25.

Won another biggish pot with same dealer a little later and tried to tip her five, but she refused to accept it .

OTOH, I tend to not tip chopped pots.

The extra dollar on an un-even chop should go to the dealer. Done.

I tip way too much and even I don't tip on chopped pots. It's always funny when both players that chop the pot tip a dollar each.

I tip in chopped pots when I needed to suck out to a chop.

Since most of the time it's the other person who needed to suck out I don't tip in most chopped pots.
