Villain - not your typical old man, check raising, 3 betting, etc. have not seen villain bluff but has had more than a few questionable calls.

Hero - young 20s, never seen this villain before. Got involved in a big hand that went from a $35 pot to over $300 when I 3 bet all in my 99 on a AA689ddd board. Villain mucked but I imagine he had the nut flush.

Heros in the BB and completes the check with 88 in a 4 way pot. ($8)
Flop comes 346rainbow, hero leads for $10 and villain calls on the BTN ($28)
Turn brings a 5 and I check to villain who bets $35, hero calls
River brings a j and villain continues his story with a $45 bet. Hero...?

OP, your check call on the turn is confusing.

Are you checking because you think you're ahead to induce a bluff? Or are you checking because you're lost but then can't quite fold with an overpair?

Check calling to keep villain on a wider range.

his range for floating on the flop smashes the turn card. I think I just c/f on the turn. We checked PF, so we might as well continue our plan of playing small ball and minimizing our losses here.

Yea, I called the turn and folded the river, didn't know if a call was justified, as played maybe a blocker bet ott or just c/f
