I just resumed playing after a very long hiatus. It was a live 5-5 no-limit game ($300-1,000) and early on in the session, with no prior head-to-head experience with my opponents.
Hand 1
I was on the button with A-K. It was folded to me, and I raised to $20. The small blind, who was really stuck and playing loosely, reraised to $75. The effective stacks were about $500. Thinking I had enough fold equity and that he had a wide range in response to a button raise, I shoved. He thought for a minute before calling with 9-9, and the board bricked out.
Hand 2
I was in middle position with J
J
. There were a couple of limpers and I raised to $30. A guy in late position called as did one of the limpers. The flop was A
J
8
. I bet $70 into $100, the guy in late position called, and the limper folded. We each had about $800 behind. The turn was the 9
. I bet $120 into $240 and he raised to $350. At this point, I thought his range included Q-T, A-A, 8-8, A-J, A-9, A-8, and J
-X
. I shoved, he called with Q-T, and the board didn't pair. I could've just called on the turn but decided to shove because there were a fair amount of action killers that could've prevented me from getting value from a two-pair hand.
Would you have played these hands differently? Thanks in advance for the responses.
