Time rake Time rake

Hi all,

I am about to start grinding live $1/$2 soon in New Orleans. Unfortunately they have a $6 every half hour time rake they take. Is a $12/hr time rake beatable?? I'm not planning on making my living playing 200nl I have a job and will be playing on the side. Will probably be able to put in about 30+ hours a week. What is a sustainable win rate at these stakes. Should i just increase my roll a bit more and play $2/$5. I'm really eager to start but i don't wanna walk into a situation that is just flat out unbeatable unless I run like a Kenyan.

the 2/5 games there can be lol if you play at high drunk tourist time. $12 time rake at 1/2 is brutal.

i would suggest start at 1/2 and move up ASAP, ie, as soon as you feel you are compent and comfortable at 1/2 move up.

this advice is dependent on you doing this as a hobby with a replaceable BR, as indicated by your OP

oh, and geaux tigahs

Well you might play 25-30 hands an hour. So over 4 hours you would get approx 100 hands in. In that time you are paying $48 in rake or 24BB/100 hands rake. It doesn't seem beatable to me but I could be wrong.

Is there a % rake as well? What about dealer tips?

Is this harrahs in nola that has that? I personally hate the time rake, but I do think it is beatable...

no % rake at all but dealer tips are encouraged. Just the $12 an hour they come by and take.

GEAUX TIGERS! Always nice to meet another poker playing LSU fan. When are the high drunk hours that you're talking about. lol In New Orleans it seems like every hours are drunk hours. I'm extremely interested as to when the REAL drunk hours are hahaha. Have you grinded there before? What did you think?

ive played there several times, never frequent enough to call it grinding. had/have several friends and associates who play there as well.

any time after 8pm is good. thurs-sun the best, or whenever a good convention is in town. not exactly earth shattering breaking news, i know.

the 2/5 game is especially juicy because you can buy in for 100% of the biggest stack or 1k whichever is greater. most of the players are no better than the 1/2 guys, just have more monies to gamblol with. avoid anyone who looks to know what they are doing.
