I am in a limping 1-2 full ring game and pick up 99 in middle position after 1 limper. My stack is $110.

I make it $8 to go and get 2 cold callers plus the limper but fold both blinds.
There is $30 left after the drop and we see a rainbow flop of KQ9. I bet $15 folding the 1st caller but the 2nd pushes $200 saying "I have the nuts" which folds the other player. I begin to think as he shows me the JTo.

Do I call my last $87 when I am at the table without anything but experience and rough calculations to guide me?

FWIW, After the hand, I looked up the odds on "Poker Odds", an app for my phone and got a result that I was a 43.5 to 56% dog. Because this did not seem right, I figured it by hand and put it in again only to get a slightly worse result of 42% Both results are significantly better than my hand figuring and the result given by the Card Player odds calculator. If anyone uses this app, beware, the results are suspect.

You need 37% equity to breakeven. You are calling $87 to win a total pot of $30+$15+$102+your call of $87=$234. your call/(current pot size+your call)=equity required to breakeven.....so 87/234=0.37=37%. you are 35% (which includes the 1% to chop) to win so fold.

You should know how much equity you have at the table since you know exactly how many outs you have. you have 7 outs going to turn and 10 outs going to river. this translates to roughly 8.5 outs with two cards to come. multiply your outs by 4 to get a very close estimate of your equity. so 8.5*4=34% equity. with one card to come, either multiply your outs by 2.5 OR multiply your outs by 2 and add an extra 2% to it afterwards. either way gets a very close estimate

Hah, I came into this thread planning on telling you not to post the results. But he showed you the nuts! So never mind. Very nice of him.

Honestly, if we are disciplined, I think the most +EV play might be to flip over our hand as well and talk out loud about whether we want to gamble or not. This is very friendly and fun, and if he loses it might tilt him. Assuming we won't tilt if we lose, this could be +meta EV, and it's good for the game and our image in many ways. If we win we can just say "I felt it coming." Or if we flip over our nines and decide to make the correct play we can say the opposite

We have a "right" to $82 in this pot once we call, and we're calling $87, so it costs us $5. Obviously if we make this mistake once an hour we'll kill our winrate, but this situation (where he shows us his cards) won't come up once an hour.

If this was -$10 or more I'd definitely say it's too pricey. Also how pricey it is depends on your hourly. If $5 is only 15 minutes of work then I think it might be worth it. But meh, this may just be my gambly rec-player side talking.

tl;dr: The correct poker play is to fold, but there may be meta reasons to call here, and if you call be sure to table your hand to give him a sweat.

Generally Id raise more pre flop with this hand.

And Id bet the flop bigger for value.
Around $20 - $25.

At that point we'd have to call given pot odds but as played fold.
