Never said anything about folding pre. Just said that how "card dead" you are isn't a valid reason for playing a hand.

FWIW, if whale shows up with a lol hand here, then 3betting might really suck preflop, due to whale unlikely to fold preflop plus it looks like he might be capable of putting us to gross decisions postflop (especially since we'll hate almost every flop and be OOP).

What hands would you 3b in this spot?
Not small pocket pairs because when you are called you are dominated or flipping at best

I think capitalizing on fold equity is something we can do with a hand that is a bit less profitable to call.

I would think we take the most +EV line, irrespective of what we might do with another hand in our range here.

If 3! with 66 >>> calling with 66, then we should still be 3!, even though calling with 66 might be profitable, whereas calling with A2s might not be.

Perhaps, but when the profitability of a play relies on fold equity, doing it too much will reduce the EV of the play overall.

I mean, are you going to fold A2s and 3bet 66? If so, your profit comes from the 66 only. Are you going to 3bet both? If so, then both EVs will probably drop. (The fact that the button called a limp/raise from the whale should signal that we already don't have quite the fold equity we were supposed to have when considering the EV of that play anyway. If that isn't already enough to convince you that maybe you shouldn't 3bet 66, now add in the diminishing returns.) So it's pretty likely--though unclear how likely, obviously--that you are getting the most overall EV from taking a flop with 66 and exploiting whatever fold equity you think you have from a different hand.
