Sick 2/5 Hand Sick 2/5 Hand

Hey guys I just played a really sick hand that I would love everybody’s advice on we are playing 2/5 and EP a tight player raises to 25 I call in late position with 910hh and we are all about 350bb deep the action goes 5 ways and the flop comes 678 rainbow giving me the nuts..action checks to me and I bet 65 into 125 and get 3 callers turn is a 4s putting a flush draw on board..a competent LAG recreational player bets 135 and EP calls I raise to 500…the rev calls EP folds..river is a AS and the LAG jams 800 into about 1500 and I call…he shows 57ss for a riverd flush. I kinda put him on a straight with a spade draw and I really feel like I could have folded…I called way to quick and didn’t think it over enough..he isn’t a stupid rec he is a relatively good one…the sick part is I’m getting 4/1 on a call..but what is he ever jamming there on the riv? Would really love some thoughts? Is there to much in the middle to call? If it was an over bet or he the pot was smaller I feel like I could fold…what do you guys think?

Hi.

Ordinarily, I would move this to our Brags, Beats and Variance containment thread but this is your first post and there is a bit of a strategy question buried in your text. I do recommend you read the threads that are stuck at the top of the forum page. In that you'll see some guidelines on how to format your post for easy reading. You'll also see that we discourage posting the results in your original post. It biases the responses you get. Instead, stop the post where the villain shoves on you and ask what you should do.

FWIW, he is obviously chasing and his main draw is the flush. I would fold this. As you get more experience this will not appear to be "sick" but rather par for the course.

The mistake in the hand was letting the LAG set his price on the turn. When the LAG bet the turn it was $135 into $385. That is a small bet relative to the pot size. After a call the pot was already $655. Your raise to $500 means it's $365 for him to call in a pot that is now $1155. At that point he is getting close enough to 4-1 that folding a flush draw would have been bad. Your raise needs to be $900 or so. That makes it $765 for him to call in a pot of $1555, around 2-1.
As for the river, it's entirely about knowing how often villain can be bluffing when the flush comes in. The sizing, which is big enough to put pressure on you while being around half the pot makes this hard. A lot depends on how willing your specific opponent is to bluff shove, some LAGs do it too often, others not enough.

Can you unlock the much better formatted post and lock this one instead?
