The book is outdated. Becoming a pro is hard. Some people manage well. Some people struggle. Some people fail.

Each person is unique.

FYP........also, there are millions of people who would love to make $15 plus per hour playing cards. If you are doing this...be grateful....you have a gift.

Also....before deciding how bad of a life playing poker for a living is.....please go through a 10 year stretch where you've had 5 jobs that you've hated.

Also....not all people with jobs have medical benefits, a retirement plan, sick days etc.

I've got more....but I've got to go to work....to a job I like......but if this particular job happens to end............

In the right circumstances and with the right preparation, I *think* I could make a decent living as a pro. However, right now I have a job with a good salary and great benefits that even though I hate it, it is definitely +EV for my life at the moment. I have the best of both worlds - steady income, and I can make a nice side income from playing some cards now and then.
There is a chance that an invesment I made into some property several years back could be paying off big time (natural gas royalties FTW!) and I could end up with a very nice investment income roughly 2-3x more than I make per year. If that happens, I may semi-retire and start playing more seriously and see where life takes me.

Playing for a living is a wise decision only for those who truely do not have a better choice.

The only good thing about it is that you are not at the mercy of others. No boss or treacherous fool can take away your livlihood at a whim or malicious gambit.

But this is cold comfort when dealing with the many negative aspects of the living.

I love abbreviations and acronyms but they have to be defined the first time they are intoduced.
I thought they used to throw around that 1 big bet per hour rate a lot (now days a ptbb or pokertracker big bet). 1 big bet = 2 Big Blinds.

"Some" doesn't define whether it is the majority or minority, but yes, that is obviously correct.
