So I played a little bit of 1/2 at Texas Card House and I had this fun hand which should give a little insight into the skill level we have down here.

I raised to $20 from the SB with KK and a $200 stack and had 2 callers..both seem to be typical stoic hoodie wearing 1/2 grinders.

Flop: Q72 rainbow (pot = $63)

I bet on the smallish side, $25 targeting hands we really have in bad shape like Kx, you know K3, K4, K5, K6 etc and I'm trying to get value from the obvious draws such as 43 and of course J8.

One villain folds, the other calls.

Turn 8 rainbow
Board: Q728 (pot = $113)

8 obviously hits his range super hard. I bet $80 to setup an easy river shove hoping to get 2 streets of value from all those possible 8s he could have like 83, 84, 85, 86 and of course J8. I'm also getting value from all his pocket pairs and from time to time am up against a resolute Kx that is willing to pay to see the river.

River J
Board: Q728J (pot = $273)

This is a terrible card for us. The most obvious draw is now the nuts, T9 which was double gutted to an open ender on the flop. Also J8 which flopped a gutshot to the gutshot is now two pairs. However, I still think we can get value from his weaker holdings like 2x, 33, 44 and of course if he has AK he's got to call to see my holdings regardless of the river and lets not forget he could have a hand like K4 where the pot odds may dictate to him that a call is in order.

Could he have played Aces exactly like this? Of course. How about QQ? Absolutely. Might he have played 82 in this way? Without a shadow of a doubt. That being said, I'm not here to play scared so I go all in for $75 and he calls.

Spoiler:
Villain shows J8 two pairs. Did he have a backdoor flush draw? I don't believe so, but either way this is just a cooler because there's really no point that either of us can fold our hands

Anyways, it's been pretty fun. Still not a ton of tables running but it should pick up over time. As expected, real pros started showing up on the weekdays, 2 thumbs up to that.

Ya, really tough for him to ever lay that down on the flop. I think you both played your hands well. I give you a 8/10 and he gets a 8.5/10. Especially once he turns the pair he just has to call down no matter what basically.

That’s the thing about playing live though, you run into some really good players. But you seem to know the type as you identified the classic stoic hoodie wearing type. You just have to watch out for these guys. I honestly just do what I can to avoid them. Especially when they’re wearing the sunglasses too. I would never bluff and show it against a player like that.

I'm still pretty rusty but he definitely played it GREAT.

The only thing I would say is that you could definitely size up a bit on the flop to target the super obvious J8 draws.

Pretty much the nut worst board for KK.

Also river shouldn't be a value bet since you block all his most likely pairs

KQ, KJ, K7, K2 and K8.

At least you can discount 72 and 82 since these would've 3bet pf.

Apparently they don't really teach about Arminius in Germany anymore although there are several Herman the German statues in the US with the one in Minnesota being pretty big.

No casino, just a room. No trip either, just a short drive on side streets.

I do like how they are more strict similar to a casino. The other room I've been to is more like an underground game.

You can tell kinda tell how strict they will be on poker rules by seeing how much they enforce mask wearing. At the other room, a dude just had a mask dangling from his left ear (not covering his face at all) and nobody told him anything. At this room, there were two guys with their masks not covering their nose. Floor told them their masks must cover their noses. 10 minutes later floor comes back and tells 1 of them if the mask doesn't stay covering his nose he will be kicked out. They are trying to do everything by the book so as not to lose their city permits.

my gas is $1 more a gallon here, so like 25% more a month in gas costs, maybe 33% for some places. My rent is $1k a month, and thats for a room and is on the cheap side, my parking spot if $280, and thats on the cheap side. If I dont get a parking spot I pay out the ass in meters and my car gets broken into 1-4x a year.

The poker is shitty cause all the degens dont have disposable income, and the rake is so high the casino and the dealers take most of the profit off of the tables.

the food is healthy and the women are A+, being able to surf is cool and not going to jail for doing drugs is nice as well. If other states werent so keen on sending brown people to jail I would be more willing to move but cali is pretty sweet.

If I was white I wouldnt live here lmao, so yea

do you know why the romans had the coliseum? its so the masses of people would stay happy and not revolt. Why do you think we have year round professional sports in the US?

also, go buccaneers. finally a good season

It’s just about what’s important to you.

catching a lakers-celtics game or dodgers-giants game with some good seats whenever with some friends/or a girl to take the edge off in your own backyard is pretty cool imo

And fairly cheap for the most part

also I take long walks while listening to stuff often and the weather is A+ year around.
