Mostly just a dig at the super common mantra of “owning is obviously better than buying” that so many people think.

So many hidden expenses eat your profit, my house is up nearly 25% in value since I bought it (crushing) and I’d of made more money investing elsewhere.

People tend to think of renting as like lighting money on fire and it’s completely wrong.

Property tax, hoa, all this other little bullshit will eat away a lot of my profits.

I think it’s ok if you have a wife and a dog and are certain your staying and etc but if you’re a young guy, single or girlfriend etc I think it’s insanely dumb to own a home. My house has made me money and I regret it, but the reason I bought is I thought I’d be in Vegas for a while but now it just feels like an anchor.

You’re almost always better off renting unless you have a family etc. my house has had basically 0 issues (it’s new) and crushed the market and I am STILL saying that buying a house is a big mistake for almost everyone.

It’s owning vs renting/investing capital elsewhere.

I’d of made more money taking the money I put into my house and investing elsewhere, which to me personally and I’m sure is also true to most others, is more important than the novelty of owning a home or the “benefits” of home ownership

I prefer home ownership as someone with multiple dogs and never having to speak to my neighbors like I might if we shared a wall and our doorways basically touched. Having a backyard for them makes owning worth it to me.

Agreed that renting is better if you’re not planning to stay put for a minimum of 5 years.

I don’t view my home as an investment at all.

sabr- maybe I'm off but it seems like some of the guys are a little bit salty that your lifestyle contradicts their views on what a high level pro poker player's life should be like.

I've tried to explained to them that the cream rises to the top etc. but app. gambling is the one industry in the world where that doesn't apply. I've gotten mocked for my views there since I'm naive and what do i know.

It's okay. Don't take it personally man. I'm sure you're loving your career path rn.
