People tend to think of renting as like lighting money on fire and it’s completely wrong.

Property tax, hoa, all this other little bullshit will eat away a lot of my profits.

I think it’s ok if you have a wife and a dog and are certain your staying and etc but if you’re a young guy, single or girlfriend etc I think it’s insanely dumb to own a home. My house has made me money and I regret it, but the reason I bought is I thought I’d be in Vegas for a while but now it just feels like an anchor.

You’re almost always better off renting unless you have a family etc. my house has had basically 0 issues (it’s new) and crushed the market and I am STILL saying that buying a house is a big mistake for almost everyone.

It’s owning vs renting/investing capital elsewhere.

I’d of made more money taking the money I put into my house and investing elsewhere, which to me personally and I’m sure is also true to most others, is more important than the novelty of owning a home or the “benefits” of home ownership
Post contains too much nuance. Does not compute. Please only make one comparison at a time.

all countries/situations different but...

- very hard to borrow as much to invest as it is to buy a house, so profit percentages are off a far higher total investment
- at least in most countries, there’s no capital gains tax on primary domicile vs on other investments (we pay 40% cap gains tax here)

definitely true that home ownership involves a higher monthly nut

That's fair enough, although you'd probably have to luck into some real bluechippers to come close to what your house will end up earning.

But yeah, will depend on your lifestyle / priorities / desires / etc. too.

If you've crushed the market, could you just sell now, take your easy $$$ and then return to living your non-homeowner lifestyle? (I have no idea what the current conditions have done to the market)

I prefer home ownership as someone with multiple dogs and never having to speak to my neighbors like I might if we shared a wall and our doorways basically touched. Having a backyard for them makes owning worth it to me.

Agreed that renting is better if you’re not planning to stay put for a minimum of 5 years.

I don’t view my home as an investment at all.

I was actually talking about me.... in that what you said doesn't apply to me since I'm a losing player. Then I added those emojis since I'm a winning player, making that a joke.

Good to know how you feel about my posting? I will say I thought you liked me, so I am surprised. lmao w/e it's all good.

sabr- maybe I'm off but it seems like some of the guys are a little bit salty that your lifestyle contradicts their views on what a high level pro poker player's life should be like.

I've tried to explained to them that the cream rises to the top etc. but app. gambling is the one industry in the world where that doesn't apply. I've gotten mocked for my views there since I'm naive and what do i know.

It's okay. Don't take it personally man. I'm sure you're loving your career path rn.

I respect the hell outta you man.

No worries, I'm not taking anything personally.

I know I can come off as a bit arrogant and braggy, but lots of people ITT have met me IRL and they know what kind of person I am. The overwhelming response to my posts has been positive, and I've had multiple people PM me about the potential pitfalls of drug use.

The people who are clearly salty about my posts and using sarcastic derision to mock them aren't people I consider friends anyway, so it's really no big deal. You can never please everyone.

I appreciate the support though, and wish you lots of luck as well.

Rob is bitter because he has to whore himself out as an agent and clp. Despite that he probably can’t even afford to make the leap and play in LA. Bitter to be trapped in the profession. Bitter you’re doing well. Stings extra seeing a guy like brewer play nosebleeds while he’s stuck grinding 2/5.

Jokes on you I’ve been shot taking Bellagio 5/10 for years so get your facts straight.

As far as the whoring goes that’s my business and yes I’m incredibly bitter I’m stuck playing 2/5.

One time I threw brewer in my pool

Edit: I felt bad after I threw Chris in my pool. He’s a real nice guy

You come across as bitter because of your (not funny) constant sarcasm/mocking of a high stakes pro, who presumably does all things better than you wrt poker.

You seem like a cool guy though- don't take it personally

LOL

I wasn't knocking you.

Not even a little bit.

I don't care how good you are at poker.

I was pointing out how your posts read (and why).

I've called myself a beginner in poker so many times. I'm not even sure what you're trying to say.
