Yep and I've heard every variation of the 'half of the bet reopens' rule.

There was a guy who was spreading 5-10 games fairly close to the house we bought. But by the time we actually moved the NL games had been shut down and it was all 1-2 games with a $200 max bet in the local Indian Casino. Now at least the spread here is up to now $680 per bet with a $1500 max buy in the 2-5 games. So there is still some money to be made
$680? How did they get away with that?

Right now our 1/3 has a max bet of $300 which matters basically never. The 3/5 is supposed to have a $500 max. They keep changing the buy in so I guess it technically matters every time two big stacks are in the hand. But it's really only the nit regs who buy in full. So I think it rarely changes the result of a hand.
