But I’m looking to make $150k/yr+ immediately. Much more difficult at Vegas 2/5

Edit: yeah, knew I was going to get flamed for that as usual.
but surely you understand that 150k means a lot of different things depending on where you live??

Yeah, of course. That was the bottom end. I expect that number to be significantly higher in LA.

I hope you guys are enjoying yourselves. smh

I mean... after paying taxes, accounting for retirement funding, etc... self-employed $150k is about what would be required to live the lifestyle of someone who hast $75-100k in W2 earnings.

I am... I love this sh&t. There's not enough in the world.

$150k is 15bb/hr at 2/5 for 2000hrs a year, every year, year in year out... no matter how much COVID19 you have.

The top 1% of poker players maybe can do this. And with their brain power would almost certainly be able to make more $$$ doing something else.

obv respecting everyone is obv

imagine you are teaching chess for a long period of time. and you're a very very good chess player, like top 5% in the world. and every new student you teach, they tell you they're going to be a grand master within 2 years. you scoff and try to explain to them that while that is possible, it's not likely based on your experiences of the game.

now you've been teaching for years and years and still this happens, and most all of those students flame out. every once and a while one will get close and even less often one will actually do it.

just because one does it very rarely does that make it a logical statement? and just because it does happen very rarely, does that make every student who says it is not talking out their ass?

does that make any sense?

I remember one time I responded to one of your HHs and you said something along the lines of "whatever. I'm looking to play for a living soon. Sorry if you don't have the same goal." Even though it was completely unrelated to what I said.

I mean, you're not gonna make $150k or anywhere close. I wonder how many people on this site are even capable of that.

If I were you, I'd get a day job and try to learn the fundamentals of live nlhe first - by a mix of CLP and here, try to establish a respectable win rate, have a comfortable amount of money saved up, and then take a shot at playing for a living. This is a distaster waiting to happen, and I genuinely have no idea how to say that in a nice way.

There's a non zero chance I'll be playing for a living soon, but I'd be going in with realistic goals and planning.

Ive never had a student become a master, but I’ve never had one commit to it either. I had those aspirations at 6 and my coach’s affirmation that it was possible was essential to my success in achieving that goal in my early teens.

poker is different. It is extremely easy on a technical level. There is no stake live, even $2k,$4k in Bobby’s room or whatever that compares to the difficulty of high level chess. That’s the difference. The hard parts are the brm and mental game and what I anticipate I’ll struggle with.

The high expectations and lofty goals are essential. It’s always worked for me. I was the top 1% in chess for my age my entire childhood. Why would it be any different in poker?

you seemed to have missed the point of my story

reread it and realize that you are not the teacher, but the student. the people in this thread, attempting to give you advice, are the teacher.

the way we respond to you is because we have seen this time and time again. most people like you flame out. even if you don't, our advice is still prudent.

and equating your skills in a game with perfect information to a game with imperfect information is a slippery slope i would avoid.

Don't you have a family pot to c bet into with bottom pair, or a pot you lost to cry about?
