To add to Feely’s poast… Paleo is great for getting healthy/losing weight. If you go hardcore Paleo for even a month you will most likely see killer results. I started going down that path again, but it’s hard to do when your family is eating opposite. I went hard for two months one time and the results were insane.

I did start intermittent fasting recently and I’m cruising along pretty well. 10 days deep with good results thus far. I dropped my redbull habit and have instead been crushing oolong tea in my morning non-eating window. Still working on choosing lean meals, but I’m not stressing about it. Just trying to eat less as I can’t hard exercise much (arthritis in my hips has been destroying me). Stretching/yoga is my friend, I save the rest of my body for recreating.

What are your body measurements like? You seeing movement there? If so, don’t worry about the weight so much. Be healthy, but enjoy life. Some of us just are who we are (thanks DNA). Do the best you can for you. Comparison is the thief of joy.

I’ve done paleo in the past with mixed results. Each time the results were less and less successful.

I didn’t take measurements outside of weight, so I’m not sure to be honest.

Interestingly enough, I decided to download Noom which I get for free with my insurance. I was already using Lose It. The same food being logged is wildly different between the two.

So far today, Lose It has me around 600 calories and Noom at 811. Maybe Noom is more accurate and I’ve been eating more calories each day based on trusting the app?

I’m going to keep using both for the time being and see what it looks like after a week or so.

Just had an absolute dream session of my goofy $1-$2 ($2-$100 spread-limit) game—$1,583 profit!—and now get to celebrate by seeing Death Cab for Cutie and The Killers at Target Field. It’s a great day!

Nice win. Enjoy the show!

The Killers are one of a few bands/artists that I haven’t seen that are on my list.

He likes dirty bikes, but the kid’s passion is on the snow. All he talks about is snowboarding and has $300 saved up for his next board.

Circling back… We haven’t really been out on the bikes this year. He’s been playing sports and I have been coaching. Just finished baseball and start soccer in a couple weeks.

Miami,

Not sure how much weight you need to cut, but I lost 55 pounds on the South Beach diet - I went from 260 to 205 a few years ago . It's a pain in the ass to deal with but Anita assembled all the ingredients and fixed the food so I just followed it.

Not an issue now for me - basically on a vegetarian/fish diet for a couple of years now and labs never looked better.

FWIW the best sustainable/long term advice I have gotten has been from Randal Graves. I am not doing his full plan, but I have watched his vids and stalk his tweets (for health advice and just to see that sexy stack of pancakes). I have mixed his advice in with other things I know work for me, and I have completely modified by eating habits over the past year, but especially the past 6 months.
My key takeaways:
--Reduced the fat in my diet (and drastically reduced saturated fats)
--High protein
--Carbs come from my veggies, some fruit, and whole grains. I have greatly reduced processed foods to the point that they are a minimal part of my diet.

I track my foods and I worked the above into Weight Watchers. The WW app sucks at tracking macros so i use it to manage points/calories, and another app to track the macros.

The end result is I have lost weight, but more importantly I have been losing body fat. Just had my blood work and a heart check-up and my numbers came back pure. My BMI is still too high, but my height/waist ratio is now back in the normal range thanks to losing some body fat. Most importantly I have reached the point now where it is second nature and even going off kilter for a night out doesn't create a disruption.

The best Randal Graves advice I’ve incorporated is adding protein into things that otherwise don’t pack a lot of protein. For me that means adding collagen peptides into morning coffee and later into something like yogurt. That right there is an extra 35-40 grams of protein which makes it way easier to hit a daily protein target and it’s not too high in calories either.

They did a gig at The Anthem last fall that wife randomly bought tickets to. Brandon Flowers is one HELL of a Front man. Had the crowd in the palm of his hands

I’d like to lose 15-20. I’m 5’8” and got up to 173. Mid 150s would be a nice place to be. I haven’t been under 160 in 7 or 8 years iirc, but I was a lot more solid before kids since I climbed for 4-6 hours per week when I wasn’t injured. 160 at my current physique is a lot different than it previously was.

A fan brought an “It’s my birthday, can I play the drums?” sign to The Killers show, and THEY LET HIM do it for a song, and let me tell you: those 5 minutes were the absolute happiest I have ever seen another human being in my entire life.

I'm super duper excited. My kid does set design for moovies and its looking like she's not going to b working for a while with the strike so im trying to convince her and her man to come out for the whole winter.

Miami - heres my thoughts

Health and fitness is a lifestyle. So I am not into yo-yoing or heavy duty bulking, cutting, etc. I believe in eating clean but not denying myself of desert if I want.

When I was on the us team I felt like I needed to be lean and explosive. So that was my focus. I asked my wife and kid to please not have any chips or sweet treats in the house. They were very supportive and pretty much kept them out of the house for several years.

I start every day as I have for most of my entire adult life with a shake that is easily modifiable based on what I am trying to accomplish

16 oz skim milk
2 scoops chocolate protien
natty peanut butter
oats

I can up the oats if I need more carbs (currently @ 1/2 cup).
I can up or lower pb if i need more cals (currently @ about 2 tbsp)
I can eliminate skim milk and use water too - although it loses a little taste but its still perfectly fine imo

I feel like this meal sets me up for success

I avoid pasta, breads, and that crap

lots o chix, fish, lean steak, and steamed veggies.

When I am getting super lean I gradually eliminate stuff. I do not do it all at once. I have tried that and I wind up going crazy.

More thoughts. People want a magic bullet/ secret hack for everything. I have learned that for most things its simply persistancy and consistancy that gets it done. That combined strong fundamentals like a solid meal plan and a gym routine that consists of compound movements.

It takes a lot of bad eating and inactivity to put 15-20 pounds on a frame like yours so they are going to take time to get off. Like any journey a body transformation will be non linear and you will have set backs. Be nice to you and know that the work you put in TODAY will pay off when it comes time to recreate with your grandkids
