Shot my best round of 9 holes this evening with a 39 and I was able to get my company to expense an X chair...ask me anything.

Nice round! I don’t play much but have never cracked 40.

I play a couple times a week and I've never broken 90. I believe my best 9 hole round prior to this was a 44.

I spent all of August counting down the days until it ended. I kinda deserve this, late september and it might dip below 80 F briefly at 3am.

I broke 40 over 9 regular holes exactly once, shooting a 39 on our hick town back 9 par 35 in the late 1980s. I had an ok front 9 of 44, then butchered the long par 5 #10 and shot a 10 (sonofabitch, seriously?!?), then over that last 8 holes went 7 pars + 1 birdie (a stretch I've never come remotely close to duplicating). So an 83 overall, which remains my best to this day (I think I duplicated it once around the same time).

This year was a disaster golf-wise for me. Between injuries and weather and other stuff I started getting out regularly later than normal and just never got into the swing of things. Broke 90 (an 89) just once. And last ~month or so I was just butchering everything. Have packed it in for the year.

Don't worry, G. It gets worse, faster, as you get older.

I'm warmly embracing the suck.

Currently out of my hockey line-ups thanks to a shoulder injury.

Brag: Won a big flying medieval headkick tournament this weekend. They held four qualifying tournaments (different weapons style for each) and the top 16 went to a single-elimination final tournament. I was fortunate enough to emerge victorious over some really steep competition.

Beat: The celebratory bottle of scotch didn't make it through the after-party.

Variance: Yeah, age is a challenge. Hamstring was not happy with me after the qualifier, even though that injury is several weeks old at this point.

Garick, on a scale of 1-10, how would you rate scotch as a post-workout recovery drink?

I'm sure it will be a special on the Ocho at some point.

Congrats G, and honestly, don't know how you keep it up.

I'm already on my second major injury of the year (put my back out early in the year, and now have hooped my shoulder) and this is all in bottom-of-the-barrel as-rec-as-you-can-get hockey.

Gg how old are you? I’m surprised it’s only two injuries. I’ve personally lost count this year.

Injuries are definitely a limfac these days. Fortunately, I've been doing this so long that there's not much of a retraining period once I recover. Still, I worry that each injury might be the one that ends my run.

How does one get into this sort of thing? What does training look like, who are the teachers, what's the cost? Entry cost for armor I think would be expensive unless you can smith stuff yourself, yeah?

You need to get enough XP to level up out of the local LARP leagues.
