You poast statistics, so you must be right...

Outside China, health officials test anyone with a cough and fever who has visited Hubei — a much larger number — producing a mortality rate of 1.2% to 5.6%.

That's a relief. Someone needs to call the gaming commission about that though.

14k vs hundreds of thousands or even millions if the coronavirus spreads as predicted.

Even that .14% of flu victims dieing seems a bit high based on some other stats I've seen. I was going to post .1% with that figure also being on the high side.

Have you even visited Michigan to make such an asinine comment? It's just a bunch of big ugs everywhere.

Yeah I get the flu shot every year.

And lol at comparing it to something that has been around for years and been completely saturated into the population vs something that's been around for less than 2 months.

And using that comparison to tell someone they are worried about nothing.

Now I'm really worried if this is the attitude that an RN has if that is representative of the American professional health community at all.

I'm not as afraid of the flu because at least there's a shot for it which I get every year(I know it's not a guarantee, but it's something.) and the rate of death is much lower than the coronavirus.

But it is something I'm still concerned with. I wear a mask whenever I travel.

It's funny because in the U.S. you get funny looks for wearing one. In Asia it's much more common because people take it more seriously. Why are Americans so stupid when it comes to healthcare among other things?

Went to Taco Cabana drive thru and ordered 8 bean and cheese tacos. They didn't give me a price total and I sat in my car for like a minute and they never came to the window and I realized those tacos would be like 2400 calories so I came home instead and had black beans, rice, jalapeno, and avocado. Very smart decision!

a far smarter decision would have been to have beef or chicken with that meal

I read that coronavirus has both a significantly higher mortality rate (2-ish% vs. .1-ish%) and a slightly higher transmission rate than the flu.

Americans will be fine though. We'll deal with it the same way we deal with hurricanes. Shoot 'em dead!

Beef is high in saturated fat and both chicken and beef are high in cholesterol.

Mr Spyutastic - I literally laughed so hard I started crying and almost died from coughing in the dining hall over your comment "This one dude was like 400lbs. He was not healthy at all," in response to the biggest player thread. Thanks.

Yeah we're only 20 times more likely to die if we get it compared to a normal flu. I don't know what all the fuss is about really. I hear it only hates Chinese people anyways.

I will concede that the 2 week incubation period is scary because it could spread like a bomb going off before anyone has symptoms.

It’s obviously a big deal.

But to point out the obvious, 20 times (.0001 or .1%) is the same thing as 2x.01. And that’s if you get it. I’m pretty sure the real concern is that the more people that have it the more people it will exponentially spread to.

Which, if it spreads at the rate Harvard professor Marc Lipsitch thinks is likely, that is 2.61 to 4.58 million dead Americans in the next year.
